Dragon Age: Veilguard |OT| 'Oof': A non-buynary return to form

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I'm very impressed with gamefly, got my copy within 3 days of release.

Let's see how this goes!

What really is amazing is the hair tech. It makes such a difference with all the characters having decent hair. Hopefully more games can get good hair going forward as it really is a game changer

Agreed on the hair though I haven't played the game myself. I'd love to know if the hair tech was done in-house at Bioware or from an outsourced developer.

I have no idea why my game keeps crashing on the PS5 every hour or so. I play other games and this doesnt happen. Anybody else experiencing this?
Possible reasons - either your save game is got issues or the game data has.

Perhaps try uninstalling and re-installing the game (it shouldn't affect your save).

You could also try rebuilding the PS5 database?

(by the way, I've never done this..!)

On PC, the game did not detect my external SSD. I had to move the game to the internal SSD for it to pick it up.

I think it should have detected it.

I am playing this right now and it is not as bad as I thought, if I dont count the dialogue writing. I've only gotten Bellara so not that deep but combat is ok and responsive, environments are gorgeous especially artistically. Havent noticed anything special about the music which is not good considering ME trilogy had godtier music and DA2 still gives me shivers with the Rogue Heart song.

Unfortunately the dialogue drags it down, it is a shame a few weirdos at the studio had to push propaganda and bring some zoomer writers, this could have been a really good game actually. After Hinterlands in Inquisition, this style of linear zones with a few offbeaten pathways for exploration/loot is not bad, I'm digging it.

You can't trust the words of non-buynary people. They're purchase fluid
Remember no Denuvo on pc, i dont even know if u can already pirate it but since game is in good technical state aka u dont need to wait for patches that fix bugs and improve performance ... :p If i didnt have huge backlog of much better games only(not gonna name titles but they all from previous gen, top quality ones too, beloved by players, not by journos only ;)

The writing for this game can be very juvenile, half of the things that Rook says in this game, I dont even use in my day to day conversations. Skill-Up's review on this were very spot on. It's even worse for the romance options, they are so unrealistic its bloody weird. Last night Rook complimented Harding's hair, and then asked her if she was blushing....who says these things out loud??!!

Combat wise I can see how folks can get bored of it. While the enemies do vary in design, what they do is mostly the same. Its either a melee or ranged enemy. You avoid their attacks and kill them, there is no nuance to it. Should you sunder them first, or weaken them? There isn't any strong reason to when you can dispatch them with your attacks, the only difference is how long it takes. Maybe it matters on higher difficulty but at Normal this is how I felt.

Story wise its your normal world ending plot. Its not bad, its just there. Companion stories feel much better though. I'm at the point where I just got to free roam some areas now, so its pretty early on.

For the DEI agendas, its not like the game hammer this into your face all the bloody time, in fact I havent seen any of it ( apart from romancing Lucanis for now) I suspect it gets worse when I meet Taash (?) but this isnt a DEI simulator.

Having a pretty good time so far, I'm not hard to please. To also note I've very much enjoyed my time with games like ME Andromeda, Gotham Knights and Concord that many here deem dumpster fire so take my opinions as you will.

The dialogue feels like a cringe JRPG aimed at kids. I hate the fact that you can't just press a button and speed it up without skipping it entirely

I watched Kinda Funny review this game and one of the cast said Veilguard isn't a game that puts you as the main character in an RPG, you're playing this through the lense of Rook and Rook is a goody-two-shoes. This sort of changed they way I experience the game. The other DA games lets you really mold your own character.

GAF won’t like this but I’m about 20 hours in and loving this way more than BG3.

BG3 always felt like I had to force myself to play it.

This I just keep wanting to dive in more naturally.

It’s likely the combat. If BG3 could’ve been more action combat I would’ve been enthralled but I can’t be bothered with crpg random dice crap. It’s dull AF.

From a staunch shit poster - happy for you, for real. Personal taste differs for everyone and if it nailed it for you, that's money well spent on your end.

For everyone else, they get to meme on it.

Both sides can happily coexist, in harmonious balance.

I bought it for the memes and here I am.

Granted I’ve yet to get the trans characters yet. Likely why the game so far has been fun.

Yeah I haven't even tried BG3 as I've not liked any more traditional CRPG I've tried. Be it BG2, Neverwinter Nights etc. years ago or things like Pillars of Eternity or Divinity Original Sin 2 in more recent years.

I just in general don't like turn based combat, like that style even less than menu-driven JRPG combat, don't like dice roll RNG mechanics etc.

I think bk is live the setting, characters, story, choices etc of BG3, but just don't know that I could get through the combat. So it'on my list to check out if it hits PS+ or GamePass down the road or take a chance on then it's $10 or whatever later on.

PS5 has a 2 hour trial demo for BG3 and data Carrie’s over.

But you’ll spend one hour just making a character lol.

Yeah I read that. And I think it at least used to require PS+ Premium, which I’ve never had. That may have changed though as that was the case closer to the game’s release.

So the hair tech seems like the standout so far.

What a cool game. Glad it exists.

General consensus is the character creator as a whole is very robust and probably the best part of the game. Most of the honest fun I've seen people have with this title has been before the game proper begins.

No way, 99% of JRPG dialogue is WAY more cringe and childish than what's on offer here.

At 15 hours one of my main complaints is still how dumb 90% of the armors in this game look. The designs are almost all shit that look like flamboyant costumes for a mardi gras parade.

Also grating is how "videogamey" they have made the world. They have these cities with beggars asking for coin but a few steps away is an unlocked chest with valuable gear, or crafting mats just there for the taking, or just straight up pouches of gold just sitting around. This kills any suspension of disbelief that this is a real world and is a significant design misstep imo. And that constant feeling you have to scour everywhere or be short stuff you need is just a constant lowlevel annoyance.

I still really like the combat, which is just challenging enough on default difficulty to keep you on your toes, though it at times feels like the training wheels are still on with how every combat area is littered with health pots. I also mostly am still liking the characters and their interactions.

Yeah, no...

It's really hard to go through it.

I'm actually with you: 15 hours in, I'm finding myself wanting to jump back in all the time: kids dinner be damned! lol.

BG3, I found just as 'woke' as this: I actually got railroaded into romantic trist talks then twice with Gale: i just wanted to see some fucking stars man, have a bevvie under the moon: I for real got lured unawares on that one. Then he got all mad, my adventure bro all of a sudden was a spurned lover of sorts...annoyed the shit out of me actually.

Then all the rest of the LI's thought I was taken, by old mate, so that just soured me hard.

For all Veilguard's RPG-light dialogue, it's more obvious when you are talking turkey, haven't been tricked into any unwanted Bull woman peg sessions yet thank Andraste.
