E3 2015 | Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3

Treehouse Live is truly the best idea Nintendo had in ages. As pissed as I was after the Digital Event yesterday, today's show so far with #FE, FAST and now Xenoblade really makes me feel a lot better about Nintendo's showing.

Pretty much how I feel now. In the end 2015 is not the issue, it's going to be packed until the end of the year. Worse case, I will play Xenoblade X until the end of times (when Ganondorf comes back).

This game looks freaking amazing. Makes me sad to think about how hard it will bomb :( Really wonder if Nintendo will continue putting Monolith on sure-fire bombs like this in the future as well, or try to do something different with them. Really hope they let them continue making rpgs!

The problem wasn't necessarily the games (except for that inexplicable Animal Crossing Party garbage on the Wii U)

Yoshi, Xenoblade, and Mario Maker looked great. The problems were that they didn't show some of the cool games, they didn't show any new significant Wii U game, and the footage for some of the games they did show was a terrible choice.

For example:
SMT-FE looks like it will be cool (even though the Digital Event didn't show it off properly)

Fast Racing Neo looks great (wasn't shown). Fatal Frame looks great (wasn't shown) Devil's Third looks crazy and fun (wasn't shown)

PS - Even though Star Fox did not look the best visually I am sure that it will turn out well

Yeah me to. Im getting all those games, and dont really feel I need a PS4 for a few years yet untill Shenmue comes out, while yesterday I was ready to jump on board this summer.

I haven't really been around the import thread. How are the side quests in this one? A lot of the MMO fluff like in XC? More engaging? Less engaging? About the same?
AFAIK there are all kinds of quests, also mundane ones, but you don't trip over these, you take them at the quest board in Blade HQ.

indeed. As I said yesterday - despite my disappointment with the Digital Event, Treehouse Live is still worth watching. The Treehouse people are so nice and passionate it shows!

The problem wasn't and isn't the format - just the content.

There's less than 5k people watching on Youtube. And on the Xenoblade X section... Oh well. Game looks amazing. Day one of course but I'm not sure if I will be able to finish it hah.

I actually like MMOs so a single player one with some online trappings is fine by me. The world looks engaging enough.

I am the same way. I lost an entire summon play WOW, so I felt right at home with Xenoblade even with its fluff quest. Once I get this game, won't need anything else for a few months. Which is why I am kinda glad it's coming to the end of the year and Zelda was delayed. Wouldn't be able to balance the two.

It's really isn't the content. They are showing far more games than last year. By the end, I got sick of seeing Splatoon and Smash. So far, only a few games got repeats and those that did expanded on where they left off.

I think what people are upset about are that most of the new games announce are for the 3DS.

Well, kind of disappointed they didn't have the English voices in place yet, but it was nice to see their progress with all the text and everything. I think most of the things they changed sound better than direct translations would have. Hopefully they've done good work on the stuff Hyodo had a hand in, and they're able to find good voice actors.

What I don't like is that lone monitor playing the XCX trailer being ignored by everybody. :-(

It's probably for the best. A game like Xenoblade X is a sit down and explore games. It wouldn't show well in a cramp show floor and you only have fifteen minutes. Really, that's for any RPG.

The content and the overall direction. The pacing simply wasn't right. It seemed they simply followed last year's blueprint without truly understanding why it worked. Low key moments can be totally fine as long as they're framed properly, they're actually necessary in a good show, but they had too many low key moments and did a terrible job framing them. And they would have had stuff to frame things with Devil's Third, Fatal Frame, FAST, Project Treasure and what not. It's great that they hired Henson for the puppet stuff (which was really great), but they should have hired a good director for the whole thing as well.

Localization is a bitch.

If they could leave the Japanese voice overs with English subtitles it would be enough for me and it would be done in 2 months MAX !
I wish they could just put the rest off the localization through DLC , just to speed up the proces lol.

There is no way the entire script of Xenoblade Chronicles X, which by all accounts is massive, could be done in just two months.

SMT x Fire Emblem looks surprisingly good. I was going to check it out no matter what but actually getting a look at about 30mins of gameplay I'm pretty convinced to be excited for it compared to how I felt after the trailer.

Localization is a lot more than just translation, though. Most of the time the localization team is given the translations and it's their job to make it relevant to whatever country they're localizing it for, in this case, the US. They need to make sure the story makes sense, and remove any kind of cultural references that the western countries wouldn't understand.

Many times when you translate from Japanese to English, it doesn't sound right. So, it's not something that can just be released through DLC later on.
