That Collider video is pretty damning. Hopefully more comes out on what Fox did. Feel kinda bad for Trank as he's going to be the fall guy when it seems apparent that Fox went above the usual production fuckery.

Don't feel sorry for Trank, he fucked himself over.

The article also states that some sources are claiming Trank was driven into a corner by the production studio. It also mentions that Fox might be trying to use him as a shield.

Since this article was published, several high level sources close to Fantastic Four – spoken to independently of each other – have told EW the rift on set was not about creative differences but rather combative behavior Trank demonstrated toward the crew, producers, studio and even the stars. It’s partly linked to Trank’s personal disputes – involving accusations of deliberate damage done to the house he was renting – which sources say eventually manifested on set as hostility and frustration from Trank.

Not all these new sources agree, however. Some who worked on the film say Trank was driven to the breaking point by the studio, which delayed casting and script approvals, slashed the budget by tens of millions from what was originally promised, and tried to force last-minute changes to the film just as principal photography was beginning, creating confusion and stress from the get-go that often boiled over among department heads trying to put together pieces of a movie that was still in flux.

The whole thing was and is a fucking mess.

Many sauces dropped in the Collider video, does seem like Trank got screwed from day one. Poor bastard. Thought Chronicle showed real promise, now I wonder what's going to happen to his career.

Geez.

This sound "Island of Dr. Moreau" levels of bad with studio interference and interpersonal breakdowns.

I both feel bad for Trank, but don't, because I'm not sure his original vision was a good fit for the Fantastic Four anyways, but he doesn't deserve to be made a patsy by the studio and have his career ruined if all that about him getting screwed is that's true.

The Collider spoiler video hits on some of the more enjoyable elements I mentioned about the film as well. People are sill missing why this film fails, is that there are hints of potential scattered before you get hit with the realization that nothing happens.

So I just got back from an early morning screening of this. I thought if I'm going to talk about this movie I want to see it with my own eyes. Not rely on what other people think. And yep Trank got screwed. Fuck Fox.

There is a very enjoyable movie here. The cast play well together, the body horror elements if I imagine Trank was able to push them a bit more would have been truly freaky. The parts we do get are tantalising. Some critics are taking some real shit if this is the worst superhero film they've seen, there is a lot of MCU bias in a lot of these critics, I'd say this film is easily better than a lot of the stuff MCU churns out.

You can see how the film rushes to a conclusion in the second half, I'd love to know at which point the Fox execs took over, was it when it skips forward a year? Or the end section with Doom coming back?

EDIT:Just watched that Collider video, once again not surprised at Fox's behaviour.

no matter how crap the film is or how annoying the person is behind it whenever there's a conflict between a filmmaker and a studio i think i'd still always side against the studio

they almost are always the ones at fault with all the meddling and cuts and rewrites etc.

josh trank sounds like he wasn't ready for a production like this, but still looking at past history this is definitely fox's blunder more than anybody else's. it feels that more often than not now that you got these big comic book conglomerates in on the game that people are defending the freaking studios....hell nah. let the director do their thing.

I gotta say there was a lot of good Invisible Woman cosplay at the Fantastic 4 showing.

I heard that the police caught a couple of guys climbing over the wall at our local Fantastic Four screening and said to them "climb back over and suffer like the rest of them you bastards".

Lmao that's awesome!

Taking my little brothers tomorrow and I am not exited about the movie just excited to take them lol but they are stoked to see it. Must be nice to be young and have no clue how crappy a movie is

Well the last fight scene is the only fight scene in the whole film pretty much, except for a short thing with Reed, the only fight scene with Doom, the only time the team is altogether before the end, and it lasts what, 10 minutes or less.

was anyone else hit?

Nope.

Well, obviously Reed, Johnny and Ben who are inside the teleporter. But it's night time and apparently there's no guards at the place, even though these drunken idiots just used the multibillion dollar teleporter machine, which is closely monitored by government agencies. Yes, the logic, there's none.

Anyone else getting flashbacks to John Carter with the Trank/Fox blame game?

Nah. That was pretty much a one-way street: Stanton was given a whole bunch of control, and he made a bleh movie with it. They even gave him control of the marketing, if I remember correctly. I don't remember Stanton then saying Disney didn't back him or anything. He just ate shit.

Did it go differently?

I was actually going to watch it last night, (hey, I had watched everything in theatres and people wanted to watch a movie...) and Vancouver had a full showing for the 8:00... so much so that I was surprised. I didn't watch it...

My sister was telling me just now that a co-worker saw it the other day and that the post credit scene was the film patting itself on the back for having 500 people working on their film. Can anyone else confirm this?

Yeah, it had that. Something about how many people and how many hours they'd worked. Also had a pre-film screen that said not to record video or audio, which was new to me.

Despite the quality of all the Fantastic Four movies, I wonder how many people just think the group is lame. the only cool thing about them is their villain, Dr. Doom. They just don't seem that interesting to me. They're like the corny version of the X-Men.

That being said, I'm sure that if the script was good I'd be a fan. That's all that needs to be done with that team. Good writing.

Honestly, alot of the Avengers seemed lame to alot of people before the movies hit.

I've always thought Captain America and Hawkeye were incredibly lame before the MCU, but the good material can make you respect the characters.

Then again, I hate Wolverine in the comics and i love Jackman's Wolverine.

Saw the movie last night, most of it at least, missed the first half an hour or so.

In all honesty? It was alright until Doom showed up, not good mind you but not bad either just serviceable, I honestly can't believe they how they could butchered him so much, Jesus.

It seems as if they had 20 minutes to come up with the last 20 minutes of the movie, that was sooooo bad.

While it was a bad movie it wasn't 9% on rotten tomatoes bad, its hate its a little overblown, its still not half as bad as Adam Sandler movies.

That quote of Kate Mara in the OP actually makes me really sad :( the actors did a good job, hopefully this doesn't destroy their careers.

Also that 2017 sequel its probably not happening anymore.

I've always thought they were lame as shit and still do. But that could change with a good movie, i thought captain America was trashy too but after the first movie hes my favorite in the MCU

Jamie Bell has been in a good stuff before like Defiance, Tintin, Snowpiercer, and Jordan has Creed and did Fruitvale, so I think they should be fine

Don't know what Miles and Kate have done besides Whiplash and House of Cards

A C- Cinemascore is a failure on every conceivable level. Its means audiences found the movie dumb and more importantly, BORING.

For those wondering, Pixels scored a B...

wishes it were bannable to say mean things about Marvel

I forwarded this to a friend of mine who saw F4 last night, he said this Trump review was far more entertaining than the actual movie!

He thinks F4 is worse than Green Lantern. In his words GL was more entertaining and more fun, which I find a horrific statement to make. o_O I've not seen F4 and I probably won't until it hits RedBox.
