Nothing makes sense in this movie. I dunno why I can't stop thinking about it.

EDIT: Also, DOOM is one overpowered motherfucker. Like, there's no way he should've lost in that movie whatsoever, his powers were WAY MORE than enough to kill the Four.

Doom has OP specials, but he wasn't watching his cooldown timers.

Should have gone with a more balanced build instead of just trying to tank mid. ;)

It makes sense, though. The Four had at least a year's worth of experience grinding. Just shotty tactics are what held them back.
And that The Thing kills a looooooot of people. A looooot.
Yeah, that was kinda sad to see. :(

If the FF ip goes back to Marvel, it would be better if the the FF family is just dead or never really came to fruition and Reed has no one to tie him down with morals, making him just Ultimate Reed (villain) version. Now you no longer have to deal with the boring FF family.

Yes because after this weekend the world is clearly crying out for an even grittier take on the FF.

"Let's spend millions getting back rights to the FF, except we kill them off"

FF brand is damaged, might as well get around it by going a different route, just use all the villains including Ultimate Reed.

No, just Ultimate Reed being used in the MCU universe, no actual FF movie being made, just used the villains and cosmic characters for the other MCU movies.

Don't sigh, Ultimate Reed is the shit. Though they must include the Four just to see Sue try to kill him only to epically fail.

Which is shortly after Ben confesses his love for her.

No, what they need to do is to make it as authentic as possible, and just go for it. None of the movies have been authentic to the source yet, no not even the Tim Story version.

Marvel MCU is in desperate need of good villains, not much to go by after Thanos is gone, and they kinda fucked up with Ultron too.

Jonathan Davies is that you?

Man, I like the Fantastic Four. And never found them boring . I liked Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben. And I would love to see a slightly darker take on the things they deal with but still remain a family.

I really don't understand the love for Doom. Its kind of ridiculous to me. I guess people are going off of feats or whatever. But to me he's just a bitter dude with his own country who dresses in a green robe wears metal and talks funny.

I don't think he's a bad character bueno think people love him for the wrong reasons. He's not the protagonist and the franchise should not revolve around him.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
FF brand is damaged

Spider-Man brand was damaged, Guardians brand didn't exist, hell, even Ant-Man pulled out of a spiral.

When the right people get involved and care about a property, they'll make you care in kind. I could write 3 separate treatments for FF entering the MCU which do them justice in a variety of ways. It is honestly easy once you get over the typical Hollywood need to reinvent and steer totally away from "those darn comics". You don't want to "do" the comics? Dont make a fucking comic film. You're here getting paid because those comics meant something to a huge number of people. They're right, you're wrong, jump out.

Also screw the "who cares about the others" sentiment. Ben and Johnny's prank battles are great levity after their slightly dark origins. Sue is Marvel's First Lady, and essentially the most powerful on the team. She has win-hack powers and is in the top band of all Marvel Universe power-players. Top it off? She's a great mom. The Incredibles showed that you can do super-hero stuff but also ground it around a normal family dinnertime pastiche and come out with a perfect product.

Doom is the evil Batman. He is two steps ahead of everyone and his supreme confidence in himself is well earned. Hes equal parts science and magic. And he just gets a lot of cool lines.

How are you going to have ultimate reed without regular reed. The contexts makes it interesting.
Or have the FF visit a ultimate type universe where the meet ult reed and maybe some other Spider-Man...

I think you're forgetting the certain emerald hood individual Marvel would also get back alongside 616 Reed...

I didn't. Doom would work better as the big bad guy in an Avengers movie than a standalone FF movie.

As for Ultimate Reed, in the MCU he is that version just without the alternate universe thing. A a jaded genius who's FF family never came to fruition, well maybe it did but it ended badly.

There was so much potential with this film. I liked the first 40 minutes, I liked the acting, but the film seems chopped beyond belief. Jay from The Nerdpocalypse podcast put it best "This film is 7 years too late" 7 years ago this is a decent superhero origin story. Today not so much.

Yeah for all the wrong reasons LOL. I hate BatGod and all the prep time arguments that boil down to how can the writer make him beat people more powerful than him with some item.

I like Reed because of his aloofness, and how he fits in with his family. A perfect movie with him would show him almost detached and off from humanity, and show him going through it with Sue, but them sticking it through in the end.

I love Ben and his kindness.

I like Sue just for being normal and having to dealing with the insaness orbit all.

I like Johnny as the jokester.

Just do a movie on how they all relate to each other.

Whenever I hear people talk about Doom, I don't hear anything about his character, just how awesome he is.

Id love to write a fantastic four movie.

They want to start on the ground floor though. That's why we're getting Peter Parker in high school. They want to get the definitive version of their character on screen before any alternates.

Some of my favorite comic book stories revolved around Doom. He is an evil Batman in an Iron Man suit more or less, and also one of the most intelligent characters in the Marvel Universe. He is also incredibly interesting as a character. Marvel could seriously make a movie just focused on him and it would be awesome.

Speaking of Secret Wars, I know it's been said enough in these threads, but you all should be reading it for some high-stakes Reed vs Victor.

Doom is interesting because he's not "just evil."

He just doesn't have the same morals as the rest of the world, but he does have reasons behind what he does.

Yep, so true. He's more chaotic neutral I'd suppose, to use a D&D classification. I think I'll re-read the original Secret Wars this week. I love the part where Spiderman kicks the asses of the entire X-men team, lol!

I'm curious, was this always a F4 movie or was it a retooled script or something?

"Four teens visit an alternate dimension. An accident occurs, leaving one behind, while the others are horribly mutated but gain unique powers in the process
They're weaponized by the military, but must band together when the stranded traveller returns as a powerful threat"

Except for the nature of the powers, nothing about that says "Fantastic Four". Substitute other abilities, change the names, and it would be unrecognizable as anything related to F4.

So that's why I was wondering if that's what they did, "oh we have this interesting script, let's change up the names and powers, and this could be the Fantastic Four movie" or was it written from the start to be F4

Just watched it with my kids. It wasn't that bad. Actually enjoyed it a little. It still was 10x better than Minions.

He's a complex character. One of my favorite things Stan Lee says about him is his great sin is he "wants to rule the world"... which actually isn't illegal. YOU can want to rule the worth; Doom just has the skill and power to pull it off.

And that's another thing I adore about him. How many of us look at our world, our politicians, global events, and wish we could do something about it? In the comics, Doctor Doom agrees and, arrogantly enough, believes he could do a better job ruling these nations than their leaders can. But, here's the kicker... in many instances, he is PROVEN CORRECT.

As a ruler of Latveria, he's not viewed as a tyrant by his people. He isn't a cruel and evil despot whipping his servants into doing his bidding. They actually love him. He cares for them, provides for them, and does whatever he can to ensure their safety and happiness. He is, by those metrics, a GOOD LEADER.

But, to put it another way... In the tragically-ignored DOOM 2099 series, Doom wakes up 100 years into the future to discover a world ruled by a true despot, a true tyrant.
doom2099.jpg

In this dystopian world, Doom hasn't changed. He awakens in a world FAR worse than the one he left, and, only through shifting circumstances, the resistance fighters who stumble upon him see him as their best chance at liberation. He is the great leader of their legends who could dethrone a true tyrant. And... he does. He joins the resistance and becomes a hero to the people. Nothing about him has changed; he's still just as ruthless as before, just as arrogant, and his goals to rule the world intact, but his breed of control is what the people of this universe desire compared to the alternative.
IMG_6377.jpg

And... he succeeds. And his leadership in the universe of 2099 is, by and large, a huge success.

I love a villain that through a slightly different perspective would be seen as a hero. Doom didn't change; only the world in which he exists. I love how nuanced he can be.
