The Ironworks gear isn't really "tablescraps" though. Some of it isn't ideal compared to Dreadwyrm, but some of it is BiS when upgraded depending on what your class is. Furthermore, ironworks looks the exact same whether it's upgraded or not, just more stats.
I don't understand why you feel marginalized. There needs to be some loot reward from raiding or there would be little to not point in it for a lot of people. One can actively work on your character for raiding while outside of raiding also, and I agree that you don't really need the very best raiding gear (aka upgraded ironworks and Dreadwyrm) if you aren't actually going into Coil. Even people who actively do raid don't see all the gear they actually want while the content is current if it's in one of the final turns or rng is bad.
Still tying both new gear sets to doing coil is just stupid.
"We got this new Dreadwyrm gear in coil, but if you don't want to do coil, we have this fantastic poetic gear you can get instead, and instead of doing coil, you upgrade it by doing coil!"

You obviously don't understand. The poetic gear isn't for people who don't do coil. It's for people who lose the loot rolls or never see specific pieces drop from their weekly clears. There is some stupidity around but I don't think it's game side.
Edit: The upgraded poetic is what I'm talking about the ilvl 120 stuff is for everyone and no matter how much you whine is perfectly fine for anything that you will be doing.

I mean, you still get the i120 gear without coil. And it's vastly far above anything you need for non-coil content.
i130 is BiS options alongside the Coil stuff. My BiS setup is primarily Poetics gear on the left side, for instance. Not entirely sure why this needs to be stuff available everywhere at the start of the gear cycle.

If this were just about any other mmo, non raiders wouldn't even get thrown upgrade items at any point. Non raiders in anything else would have to deal with getting lesser than normal raid mode gear and be happy with it until another content patch(6+ months later) came out and made said gear irrelevant and threw non raiders a bone, or they have to do an easier difficulty and get lesser gear for it.
The fact that all people have to do is wait 3 months and then they get thrown upgrade items for doing next to nothing is hardly considered a bad thing when the only other alternative is they get nothing and live with it. For the content that non raiders are doing, ilvl 120 is more than enough, anything higher and they either have to wait or they have to actually raid.
Got my last Master Book II, all 10 Artisan Off-hand tools Penta-melded, Max-melded Artisan Gear ( minus body ) and Forager's set... and all Supras. I'm set until the Expansion
Those on Ultros, stop by my nook at the Gridinia Market board

The only new content that came out this patch that, for the majority, necessitates Ironworks and Augmented Ironworks is the Final Coil. You can easily do everything else in gear from last patch, and the base Ironworks (which as you know, is available to everyone) is overkill for it too so wanting Augmented Ironworks to do non-FCOB stuff is a weird demand.
Unless you really wanted to dye Ironworks there's no good argument for having the upgrade mats be found out of raid so soon into the patch.
Also my chocobo is 1/2 way to 12. I figure by the time I get it to max, I'll either have to give it up because it won't fly / be of use in the expansion. Or it'll be the best flying/racing bird ever. Hoping the latter, expecting the former.

On a scale from 1 to 10, one being Cape Westwind, and ten being maining T5 as a 2.0 Warrior, how difficult slash expensive is it to get Supra weapons right now?
I need Welfare Poetics and Welfare Carbontwine so I can buy the casting boots because they look amazing and will contribute to my Lala-kicking roleplay and/or heavy metal glamour
Jesus fucking christ. He leveled NIN to 50 and spammed the books and the light in almost as much time as it took me to go from novus to nexus. Fuck sleep.
This is the most annoying part about the upgrade items, to me. Locking vanity behind coil alongside the stat boost just sucks. I just want to look fabulous, Square, don't tell me to git gud too.
The way they're doing it makes a lot of sense in terms of slowly opening content to everyone, but it winds up creating alternating patches that piss various groups off. Even numbered patches annoy a portion of the non-raider base since almost everything is not for them, odd numbers cause some raiders to get outraged over filthy casuals getting gear upgrades they don't need.
It's not like anybody needs to be i130 to clear anything in this game, including final coil. T13 already downed; clearly if you need better gear it's just because you're not good enough.

But no one is doing hunts anymore. I found an A last night while looking for the B weekly mark and it took me like 10 minutes to get anyone else to come. And then it was still too few people and we proceeded to wipe spectacularly
I haven't even logged into the Excal hunt TS. I saw people shouting for people to come help with the TS hunts in Mor Dhona. So that pretty much said it all.

Lol no to your spoiler. The average good player still needs to be in the ilvl 120 range (and those that cleared did to with their pentamelded HQ crafted stuff).
A few more pieces of vanity gear attached to Hunts would've been a good idea. That said, some loss in interest was inevitable. They couldn't make the Tome reward nearly as lucrative this time around, and sands and oils were only going to keep people doing hunts for so long.
Next time people need a lot of Soldiers though, watch out. Hunts are probably one of the more lucrative sources of Soldiers right now.
Isn't that the same for all new MMOs though? If you don't have a static group of friends or you're in one of the hardcore linkshells, free companies, guilds, whatever, to challenge the hardest content - you will always be a patch behind?
Only way to fix this would be to change the raid content where it doesn't require co-ordination so anyone could do it together, but then it's no longer the hardest content and it has lost its point.
FFXI did it right years ago with Sea and Sky. You could do it with 8, 10, 15 people and certantly wasn't "faceroll" content. Shit, if they wanted to copy instanced content there is Dynamis!

My actual point is this: Not everyone has the same skill level. Not everyone can achieve the same DPS/HPS at the same gear level. There are people for whole SCoB and old EX primals will remain a struggle until they outgear it to a ridiculous degree. Welfare oils and sands made it a lot easier for people to clear outdated, non-relevant T5 in 2.3, even though the "average good" player didn't need to be anywhere near that. I'm guessing there are a ton of people who will be stuck behind T9 until the 2.5 welfare patch comes out and makes it easier to crazily out gear and reliably PUG. There are people who will need i130 to clear content balanced around a much lower iLevel, and pretending it's incomprehensible why anyone not in final coil would want the best gear is silly.
It's less that I think Square should be handing out i130 and more that I find "you don't even endgame why would you want this gear" an annoying argument. Everyone likes bigger numbers and curb stomping things.

These people suck and don't deserve good gear anytime soon, I don't care how someone wants to spin it. This game is very much a PvE experience and if you are ignoring part of the experience then they can ignore you when they are placing gear.
