Same debate happened in 2.2, it amounted to little more than yelling at clouds.

Fact of the matter is that, there needs to be a worthwhile reward for doing raids, gear and upgrade items are a suitable reward. For people uninterested in raiding, there will be other rewards of similar or equal value later on. Yes you have to wait, but the people getting these big rewards now are putting in a large amount of effort to get these rewards. Those that wait, won't be.

What's the official number of ilevels you're allowed to out gear something the first time you clear it before you're too bad to be worth notice?

Is 10 OK? So the statics that will ride the welfare patch hard to get to i130 to finally clear content balanced around i120 are acceptable?

Sounds about right. You're trying to place exact numbers on things for some odd reason but yes, Ilvl 130 gear is what released with this raid so you should be able to clear it with that gear no problem. Your scenario makes it sound like I should care that somebody still hasn't beaten T5, I don't. These people are not entitled to raid gear its not a hard concept. I'm not a crafter, I don't sit here all day bitching and moaning that I can't craft all of these things that people are forking over millions and millions of gil for.

This X 1000000000000

It's a very simple concept. If you want the raid gear, raid. Period. End of discussion.

My only complaint about Raid gear, both in 2.2 and 2.4, is that tank chest pieces are/were both in the final turns.

This is actually fairly understandable for the most part, seeing as they are large rewards, and that DPS pieces are probably more essential to actually clearing the final turns, but it's still frustrating.

Still a little spoiled by first coil tank chests being in turn 1.

Yeah I'm not a fan of this at all. I would really rather it be switch to this token system, since I now have to slot some crappy gear in my chest slot until I hopefully get that, which won't be until I don't even know.

I heard something about the expansion adding bigger/more open areas.

My main gripe with the game was that it felt very sectioned off, like I was moving from room to room (or warping into a room, for most of the main content). There's a lot about this game to like though, and I just got a new PC so I might be checking this out if they're making strides to open it up.

Are there any open dungeons or anything yet?

too bad sastasha hm is the worst dungeon ever

Nah, there are worse. Stone Vigil HM was a huge let down since the original one is one of my favourites. It looks great and some pulls require actual effort. I like that the new dungeons are challenging and my only gripe is their music. Both HMs are awful in that department, whereas I absolutely love the music in that snow... something place.

Seriously, this game has been mostly hit with the music from the beginning, with stupefyingly few misses. Soundtrack of the ages.

Jeez if I did not know any better, I would have thought I went to the official forums by mistake during the past few pages. I don't really care at this point whether gear is locked behind coil, with me being so far from the endgame, but the attitude towards non-raiders sometimes is rather annoying. I am just glad that the fate rush continues for now.

Such opposites.

Just beat Shiva EX. I think she's the most fun out of all primal. I can see why some poeple think she's easy since she basically has 2 phases and soft DPS check. Also her attack is very predictable if you pay attention to her weapon. Can't to start farming for the ring.

Sastasha HM manages to have a more annoying final boss fight than Hullbreaker Isle. It's pretty impressively bad.

But is it the attitude of the raiders toward non -raiders or actually the other way around?

By my accounts, I'm fairly certain it's the other way around at least 99% of the time that sparks this conversation/topic.

I dunno, I see this all the time in MMO-style games and it usually boils down to one side being annoyed that they can't get the equipment they want through the way they enjoy the game.

And the other side gets annoyed at just the mention of someone obtaining the items they have worked hard for through easier means.

I don't really care either way, but I find the latter much more annoying and even childish.
If you feel that someone else's enjoyment of the game somehow directly affects your own enjoyment of the game, then you need to take a chill pill IMO.

I also tend to like open world content in the game, and was pretty disappointed when Hunts were originally nerfed.

Which ultimately answers my question...the non-raiders are usually the ones bitching and complaining, yet, time and time again the raiders get all the blow back from said bitching and complaining.

Whatever your view or my view is on this is really irrelevant, but the fact that non-raiders continuously bitch about not having access to raid gear is way more of a "take a chill pill" moment than raiders defending the time it takes to require that gear at this point in the patch cycle.

Edit: Also, to piggy back off of what Sorian mentioned earlier, wouldn't it be really awesome to be able to craft the 4 star shit that goes for 15-20M without having to grind countless hours? I'd gladly take that, but the truth is, I have zero desire to craft, therefore, I should not have access to the Gil flow associated with it.

Which side bitches more is directly related to whose patch we're in. There was tons of complaining about how casual sand/oils were in 2.3, we've just all moved on since now those don't matter.

Really all that matters is that I'll FINALLY be able to replace my boots this week but can't dye them because color coordination requires dedication and skill and sacrifice and seven like-minded people. Square pls.

Does anyone know any GOOD basic tanking guides? I've just started leveling MAR and GLA, but there's so much stuff aroud, thst it's hard to tell what's worth reading.

Got my last Master Book II, all 10 Artisan Off-hand tools Penta-melded, Max-melded Artisan Gear ( minus body ) and Forager's set... and all Supras. I'm set until the Expansion :)

Those on Ultros, stop by my nook at the Gridinia Market board :)

Damn. Grats! I get sad at the crafting hill I have to climb. May just concentrate on gathering and cooking or something. Insane amount of crafting stuff to do to "catch up" (never happening).

what's your issue? Most guides assume you're 50 already so they might not be that helpful for you right now

I want to know the rotations and general rules of tanking, since I've never done it before.

well obviously the main thing is to keep aggro on the mobs. With pld, early on, flash is your friend. Spam it on every pull so you can keep hate. Overpower with mrd. These help when you pull more than one mob b/c dps may not always attack the same mob you attack. A good thing to do as well is put up the icons(1,2,3) so everybody knows what to focus. Try and lead off with a tomahawk or shield lob. Do you know about the aggro bars in the party list?

Defensive rotations kind of change per boss fight you do, but just as a basic rule never pop them all at once. Kind of want to rotate between all your cooldowns if you get what I mean.

In my mind, the most important thing in the beginning is to make sure you are able to keep hate on pulls, bosses don't usually hit that hard until brayflox/qarn.

Man I don't even have that much crafting to do in order to "catch up" and I still don't even know where to begin/if it is worth it. This newest tier just feels so ridonkulus.

What say you crafting gods, where does one begin this madness. I am fully melded pre2.4 on all classes with artisan weapons. No supras. The cost of getting into 4star just seems so high/RNG when they don't even seem to be moving that fast. Only have like 6m to work with so not eager to gamble either.

I want to know the rotations and general rules of tanking, since I've never done it before.
Rotation? You should be able to pretty much look at the skills and know what goes where, it is not a complex role in that department (especially if PLD). Rules uh, I mean, you've played the game right? You probably already have a good idea of dos/donts of tanking. Aside from stuff you can learn by watching (like positioning), the most important thing you got to know is the fights themselves. Know when you will need a cooldown, make sure you are using it BEFORE the big hits, not after when you are already near dead.

Tanking is just all about awareness. There is nothing mechanically difficult about it whatsoever, no complex rotation or skills to learn, it's simply knowing what is going on during the fight at any given time and being able to adapt to it. Also threat I guess, but if you can't keep threat in this game (at 50) you are probably undergeared. While leveling it can be annoying since dps are 50/50 on whether or not they follow marks and if they have cross class damage skills they can outpace your single target threat even at some levels.

If you complete a story quest related dungeon on a second class, will it count as complete for the story quest?

Kind of funny that it's taken so many hours to unsuccessfully find a full party to do Sastasha as a THM that I can select a secondary CNJ class and level up to 15 before a party forms.

It doesn't matter. All that matters is that you are the same character. Classes are completely interchangeable.

Really enjoying the new dungeons. Snowcloak and Qarn especially are a lot of fun. I love the music, mechanics...everything about Snowcloak. I will say that Yeti is a complete joke when you figure out the mechanics, though.

Also been leveling NIN, and it's a nightmare. I really wish Duty Finder wasn't so fucked right now. I just want to run roulettes to level...

So about half a level away from being level 50 WAR.

Looking into weapon options, think I'll be going for the soldiery weapon so I can focus on the one relic at a time (which is currently on my DRG).

So I'll need to start running ST again for both gear + UAT/Sands. Lovely. Still enjoying my WAR, just hope I can get used to tanking some harder stuff at end-game.

Yeah, the weapon switch was what initially stumped me. I was fully zoomed out, just like any other fight, and couldn't really clearly tell one weapon from another. Had to use the icon, and that just didn't work too well, since the icon doesn't change till the end of the switch animation, giving you very VERY little time to react to the change.

Got a lot easier once I zoomed in a little and started following the weapon changes. Now the only challenge are the eye-bleeding AOE indicators. D:

shiva actually says different things on the chat bubble depending on the weapon she uses
i think it's easier to use that as a guide rather than the small weapon icon on her buff list

She stops using those partway through the fight, so it's best not to become reliant on that.

Also, my brain seems to filter mid battle dialog boxes out, probably because it's usually just distracting flavor text.

Warrior is a lovely class, i still enjoy it the most and specially in final coil where i am the OT. War is very versatile and more joy then paladin's 1,2,3. Also takes a bit more skill / fast reaction time, we do not have passive reduction and need to time a CD + Innerbeast for every big hit incoming. Also new coil proves that Parry is not a wasted stat anymore (T11 hurts like a truck).

As for your weapon, the soldiery weapon is a fine weapon. I used it untill i got my high allagan axe. Relic is great, specially when you got the time and you can choose the stats that you want later on.

Have fun! :D

She only does that the first time she uses them.

The hill is much easier to climb with Fieldcraft III Demateria going for ~ 70K and if you can get a crafter to make you the Blacksmith Artisan Off-Hand tool you can skip the Primary trade-in and go straight for the Supra.

The last boss is amazing though?

"This game needs more mummies"

What? qarn hm was awesome. The music is great.

Qarn HM is awesome.

Sastasha HM is the shitty one.

indeed. it's easier than NM. the same happened to SV. the boss should have been harder than the NM boss pre-nerf.

It's easier than the NM Qarn and I didn't think the boss fights were that great. The mummies thing just seemed cheesy and gimicky, like they went for comedy value instead of danger.

I haven't tried Sastasha yet and still need to wade through the story to get to Snowcloak.

I enjoyed the new dungeons. I can see the problems with Sastasha, by I have fun with it.

The biggest problem I had was with the bosses that need to be DPSed fast to stop their special attacks. DPS players usually don't care in dungeons and just keep hitting stuff, so I wiped a few times.

Some new bosses are terrible to fight as a MNK, though. They move all the time, it gets hard to be correctly positioned.

If you watch her animation its much easier, she spins around in a 360 if its staff, and just floats straight up if its sword.
