So... Heavensward looks pretty great but I haven't played in ages. I probably don't even remember how to play my Lv 50 DRG not even considering all the changes that have been made since I stopped playing.

Could someone give me a quick summary if it's worth coming back for 1-2 month to casually stroll through some new content solo / with a friend or does everything that has come out within the last year require a little more serious time effort? I usually only have an hour or two to play 2-3 times a week.

I reactivated a month ago after I quit a year ago because I was bored and wanted to kill time. Was able to catch up very fast and content seems much easier then before, and stones are much faster to obtain.

So I'm thinking about playing around a bit with this game, mostly to see the story. Anyone know of any good resources/tips for starting out?

Better go Lala!

The hard part of P1/P2 of T13 is primarily gear related. Mechanically speaking, a lot of T13 is easy to execute, it's just about meeting the requirements to not die immediately. After that it's about executing it all over the course of 13-14 minutes.

Each Flames of Rebirth hitting is roughly 14s apart (11s cast + 3s pause).

Yeah, it's just OMG-firework-disco-booms as opposed to actual reactive mechanics in earlier turns.
We're doing 5 Bennus so we can save LB for later. Was fine with enrage :)

By now isn't everyone at least i120+? It was a lot harder when HP was lower and missing a Succor or Adlo meant death.

Busy weeks at work so I am only ilevel 116 on my SCH. Respect to Vit for T13, though. Was just also really, REALLY unlucky with drops in earlier turns and didn't have time to cap poetics. My WHM partner is also not quite ilevel120 yet but we are doing just fine it seems. Skills over Gear? :p

I do want that Fenrir mount but you probably need to play GS for half a year to get it.
Or get really luck at Cactpot.

Maybe in terms of game breaking bugs, but in a multiplayer game situation you need to understand your community and they have shown repeatedly they do not. In this regard we still act as their testers, as we get content that was not fully thought out and requires a large amount of time before it reaches their original goal for the content.

The game massively needs a test server in my opinion. So many of the games biggest issues/controversies could of been avoided had players been able to give feedback beforehand. I understand they do not want to spoil the story ahead of time, but that is something that is easily fixed. You can disable quest lines/cutscenes and let us test core mechanics/ideas - they showed this exact ability in beta.

Yeah I meant from a bugginess standpoint. But for gameplay they've been releasing stuff lately that has worked out pretty well in terms of battles, have they not?

I'm having way more fun than I expected with crafting. I'm actually excited to get home from work and craft... When does it become frustrating? Those lv15 cross-class skills really make a difference. I'm being able to craft stuff for leves and GC provisions with 100% quality, using ToT, Rumination and Hasty Touch (with a little bit of luck added).

And it's the first time I have more than 1kk gil, thanks to Baby Opo-Opo minion.

Just finished Battle in the Big Keep. It's a fun fight really. I prefer it over the Battle on the Big Bridge fight.

I hope to see Hildebrand in 3.0+. His storyline was great fun. (also that Gentleman pose you get from it :D )

You hit kind of a gil wall at 50; getting the master books, artisan glasses and tools requires better stats than just gear alone can get and crafting stuff is kind of pricey. Also the crafts for the first set of master books requires a ton of materials that are obtained via dungeon drops/GC seals/MB purchases failing all else so NQing one is financially not great (Speaking of: anybody have, like, 70 spare coke? Down to ARM/BSM master books.) I've also had to gather a ton because the other mats and crystals can eat through funds quickly.

That said, it's a ton better than it used to be thanks to the Talan token turn-in gear. You really only need to partially meld out one class (accessories being very important), then grind out token gear to sufficiently gear up all crafts to start working on the master book stuff.

But still, NQing a Vanya on 98% quality and having to get 9 more potash is insanely frustrating and I don't think crafting gets less crazy from there.

Which is the bigger issue, and this is most definitely not limited to instanced content, that they often show a complete lack of understanding how the player base will approach any situation. This shows up in regards to class balancing, how a group will attempt to clear an encounter, how players will approach things like crafting, hunts, pvp...pretty much everything really. It is immensely frustrating at times, because pretty much every patch we get something they need to retune down the line simply because they didn't consider how players would actually interact with it. They are incredibly, arguably willingly at times, blind to how a normal player would perceive content. Bright side is they are at least willing to listen to the player's side if we are loud enough, but it is again frustrating because we always get into these (sometimes obvious) situations when they could of been avoided.

Welcome to online games with a large playerbase? I come from playing League of Legends for years so something like this is not new to me, and that game has a test server that's really popular. It is almost impossible to test content for every play style and strategy. No matter how much you test it, someone will always find a way to break it on the live servers in a way you didn't intend. Strategies will always evolve from what is a developer's intended strategy.

It's the nature of online games. People will come together in their groups and discuss ways to beat things the developers never foresaw. People will find the most optimal rotations for a class or whatever that weren't seen before, etc. etc.

Not sure why you would expect any different.

If anyone knows where these two items are, please give me a call!

The boots are on my MNK's feet :p

never seen the monk hat or boots.

and the hat is on her head!

Now if only I could get that damn T10 slaying necklace to show up again. Ranketsu got it last time :(

can't wait to be one of the masses to use that Setzer outfit now that it's (apparently?) gender neutral.

Maint Monday 9PM-2AM, time to get hype for the brief flurry of activity it will bring.

Still hoping final relic stage is EX primals for maximum pony farming/card farming/relic farming synergy. They've done a decent job lately of alternating between resource-intensive and time-intensive steps, so I'm expecting a massive grind that is hopefully relatively cheap or free.

Soon, crafting bans won't matter to you. You will surpass me.

The freedom that will bring! No threats will stop me.

Alas, still a month or two off.

I'm right in thinking they said you wouldn't lose your cards against other players in Triple Triad right? Does anyone wish that you could lose your cards like that similar to FFVIII? If you win, you get a card, if you lose, you lose a card.

I don't know, I just sort of wish they had those rules in it but I guess they don't want people to be crying about losing a rare card to other people.

The rage if that happened would be legendary. I want it.

and the hat is on her head!

I too have the MNK head, although I haven't touched my MNK since I am guessing around 2.2... I also have 3/5 of the DRG set which is all I've been using lately so I guess I am having pretty great WoD luck.

Hello all by the way, first time posting in here after lurking for awhile. Had barely been playing the past year but I am back into it big time the past two months or so. Really looking forward to next week & 3.0! (on Balmung)

I eagerly await the horrors of Chocobo Racing.
I fully expect for it to be filled with RNG bullshit like XI's that causes you to junk a choco.

I'm hoping that cards will be tradable items, probably not, but I can dream.

The price of the Titan Extreme card would be so hefty, even if it was a common drop. XD

Gold Saucer comes out Tuesday. TEAM LOW EXPECTATIONS, THESE ARE THE CARDS WE MUST GET TOGETHER!

Look at those cards at the right. LOOK AT THEM. Who the hell do they think they are with that shit. Out of those 5 the Minfilia card is the best? Fuck outta here with that.

Edit: Also I see a Godberg card, if he isn't a 5 star all 9s then I'll flip a table.

They don't want people buying and selling cards to each other. The above can't happen because of that.

Damn it, why are they only adding NPC clothes now? When my character was a Roegadyn, she looked just like the NPC in the Limsa markets that walks around, looks at things like Kim Jong Il, and walks around some more. I could have dressed up like her and walked around the markets all day. :(

Gold Saucer looks amazing. I've never played FFVIII so I'm looking forward to learning, and then losing my soul to, Triple Triad. Chocobo racing/breeding and the other minigames sound fun, I love that Setzer outfit, and I'm happy for Eorzea's catgirl population because they'll have something else to glamour into that isn't the hempen underwear combo or some variation of a bikini.

Also I've decided to try levelling a LNC this week and I'd completely forgotten about the 25+ minute DPS queues for low level duty roulette... I suppose it's at least good mental preparation for when I start playing as a Machinist when the expansion drops.

Do you really want to be Kim Jong Il

so I can get Setzer gear without having to fantasia?

gg

Skills over Gear? :p

No amount of "skills" will get you over the VIT check. That said, you're a Healer so you can go in basically at i110 with 30 points in VIT and be close to fine. I was i116, I think, with 2x INT/VIT accessories and it was still relatively iffy but doable. It's more of a check for the entire raid and not really just your HP (though you still need to meet it as well).

I would say something about not being able to trade them but yeah, the player base would find a way around it (ie trade the money and then have someone lose a match on purpose so the buyer can get their 'card').

:( No real way around that

I don't know about your server but on mine, NQ Vanya Silk (and similar items) sell for more than the price of the mats so you don't lose any gil.

They confirmed that cards won't be tradable a while ago.

Does the Kirimu coat hide cat tails? It looks like the Setzer coat does and now I'm wondering if all long coats do and I just never noticed.

Wish it'd be dyable tho--this gear cycle already has too much purple.

I'm not sure where Vanya is right now--I think the wedding FC3 desynth messed with prices for a while, but I've been having a hard time offloading the NQ treated spruce lumbers I churned out during my genius "craft wearing a Dodore survival belt and forget to swap in Reclaim" phase. Sales may pick up over the weekend, but waiting for the money to come back is killer.

Even if the silk is NQ, you could try doubling down and creating i70 gear to sell to spiritbonders
or bots
.
