Why get any of the gear in the expansion? There's probably another expansion coming with better stuff.
Won't post the patch notes till maintenance starts probably. Since they are also adding in the next zodiac quest, there might be some 'sellable' items that are a part of it they don't want people to jump on till the content is live and thus upset the market.
Since the patch introduces chocobo breeding, is my current chocobo going to get assigned a gender tomorrow? If so, she better be female because otherwise I'm gonna have to think of a new name for him.

I read an interview linked on here where they say they will definitely not be leaving current relic quest doers out in the cold. They said they won't invalidate the work people have put into the current relic quest.
So you're saying a, for instance, 4 minute P1+P2 would still mean the enrage after 5th Akh Morn (or, rather, the Megaflare after it) instead of continuing on until after the 6 minute mark? I'm not sure that's true. All the "5:00-5:15" numbers are because that's where 14:00 will generally line up. It's only recently we're having groups capable of pushing significantly fast enough (e.g., 4:45 or below on P1+P2) to even get a whole extra attack deep into his rotation ... but groups capable of doing that won't see 5th AM+ to begin with.
Assuming nothing wonky happens, if we get past 5th AM we'll see a Megaflare into enrage but that's simply due to Megaflare taking so much time (~25 seconds from end of AM to end of Megaflare). The only way for us to buy enough time for another attack would be to push before the 3rd add spawns and have to deal with it during Divebombs. I'm pretty sure his rotation continues, though I suppose I don't know that 100% since we haven't seen it first hand.
Your current chocobo won't matter at all for racing or breeding.
I've never seen conclusive proof of this either, but that's because the scenario where the party has enough DPS to push P1-2 this hard then not push P4 hard enough is not quite likely. If Gigaflare after Akh Morn 5 was supposed to be certain regardless why does he still cast Megaflare provided there's time left before 14m? Maybe with Echo someone'd be willing to see if there's Earth Shakers past that.
Where did you see an enrage hitting before the 14:00 mark? You'd need extremely high dps in first phase to make it doable, but I assume you've seen some video or log of this happening. I can't think of a reason why you'd assume the final phase is on it's on timer otherwise, as every enrage gigaflare I've ever seen (both in-game or in videos) have come post 14:00.
Well that sucks. So racing and breeding chocobos will be entirely separate from current ones? I won't be able to ride them outside of the race track? And here I was ready to embark on an epic quest to acquire a complete chocobo colour palette.

Can someone please give me some advice because I'm having a hell of a time. Below is a picture of my Mog Station information. As you can see, I have two copies of FFXIV attached to my account. The game key on tab one is old and I don't want to use it. I bought a second copy (long story), this time of the collector's edition. That's the one shown here, on tab 2. You can see I have 29 days of free time on it, as I just bought it yesterday.
These are both under the same user name and password, and when I try to log in, it's defaulting to the first key on tab one, and telling me I don't have any available game time. Which I don't. How do I get it to recognize that I'm trying to log in with the second key registered?:

IIRC you switch service accounts in game by logging in and then selecting the Data Center option on the main menu. Are you getting to the screen that lets you select to change data center? IIRC you can change service account by picking Data Center and then (maybe) reselecting your server.

I've never seen it happen myself. I've read guides that made mention of this and I had seen enough of them say it to assume that it had been seen somewhere at some point. It certainly makes sense to me but maybe I'm crazy. I'm well aware that this would probably never happen accidently so the point is kind of moot.
Yep, I haven't seen it drop once either. I've the whole set minus the body and belt (fuck belts though). D:

To ppl saying why not take the same stance with armor, etc.? The relic weapon takes 100x more time to level up than any other thing in the game. So... I'd say there's a big difference there.
It doesn't really make any sense to me, I think it's more likely people mention that time for the final phase because (when the guides were written) the vast majority of groups would be at around that time before enrage hits. But yeah guess it doesn't really matter, so it's moo.

If the current relic is actually needed for the new one in expansion, expect a massive nerf in how much time it takes to go through those steps though. Current relic wielders might get a leg up or something in speed but there's no way they will make new players/people coming back go through the shitty relic line as is to get started on the new one. So if your concern is that your effort on relic may be wasted come expansion time, there's a good chance it will be.

All the chocobos issued by the Grand Companies are male. So far they've only had female ones in Ishgard.
Absolute certainty its getting nerfed, just like getting the original relic was nerfed going from 1.0 to 2.0 but perhaps not that extreme. Yoshida has already said content like that questline would be 'eased' as the game went on and not just because people got more powerful. I'd Expect dramatic changes in the zodiac questline whenever the 'sequel' to it begins to start after 3.0 comes out.
Don't know about that. Learning a tough raid then getting lucky enough for a drop from it takes time. Hell even WoD gives people some rough treatment with its 11-item chests. Even capping tomes every week isn't exactly what I'd call fast gameplay and then you have to either raid a lot or farm hunts for untold hours to upgrade all that. Getting full BiS could take from a month or two to a full patch cycle.
I forgot about this. I wonder how they will explain this, not even the Ishgardian jerks can resist Manderville?
I would but since he did relic, probably doesn't have any.

Omg hahaha so true. And sad. I'm proud to still have about 3 mil to my name after wasting a lot of it on Savage Mights and Aims, supplemented with selling IV's I didn't need.
Anyways if you guys couldn't tell this is my first real MMO (guild wars doesn't count) so the gear progression thing is relatively new to me. And to hear that something so arduous to obtain will likely become a lot easier later makes me almost want to just unsub until the next expansion. But... I want to play triple triad so... I guess that's just life in MMOs.
So I finally have some spare time and decided to redeem the month that came with my collector's edition to try the game and just found that the server where I know a couple of guys (Ragnarok-EU) doesn't allow new character creations.
Reading about it on google I found mixed information about that restriction being lifted usually very early on the morning but all those were old post so I don't know if that still happens or I'm out of luck.
I was wondering if anyone here recommends me to try waiting until this late-night/tomorrow or I'm just better picking one of the available servers because they don't open the others anymore.

A few of us including me are EU and currently on Ultros a NA server just to play with GAF. It upto if want try to get on ragnarok or join gaf

I guess I'm taking into account the fact that you can get near-max armor as drops. Yes it's random but so is everything else. The i130 upgrade using twine takes a while with hunts but so does Alex farming, which is only one relic step. And yes you can get near-max weapons from drops but again there's only one relic and you can't just skip to i120 with that.
I get what you're saying but the time commitment is nowhere near comparable.
Welp I was thinking about an EU server regardless because of latency and timezone...

Is it the Demon Tabard of Aiming? I got that in my 3rd run when I was the only bard in the party. Funny enough my previous run had all 5 bards in the raid in the same alliance.
Yes the restrictions are raised at certain times, check lodestone every few hours to see character creation availability. No servers are closed down permanently.
Also you should know that as of now the European servers are in Montreal, same as the NA servers. However, I think they are introducing servers actually in Europe for the expansion.
I suppose in theory you could say that P4 has its own timer, but that's kind of a silly line of thought in my opinion.

I got rekt already. Tomorrow is triple triad day, rejoice.
Mounts, minions, glamour items, and possibly some other surprises. It's highly doubtful we'll see any endgame relevant armor though.

Its a tried a tested collecting game that is fun in and of it self and will be dispersed through all content. Its going to be as much fun learning the way to collect all the cards as it is for people to build their favorite decks. Triple Triad was like the one good thing to come out of FFVIII, and I actually like that game aside from the card game.
Plot twist: you can buy sands and encrypted tomes with GS coins.

I'm not uncalm? People have been begging for Triple Triad for basically ever; rewards are irrelevant honestly (and there's no indicator of TT-specific rewards; the generic Saucer glamour and minions could be earned via minigames and Chocobo racing too.) People in general are excited for Triple Triad because it's Triple Triad.
And also for a chance to humiliate each other at the card tables, maybe.
