Any tips on where someone new to Triple Triad should play their very first game outside of the Gold Saucer? Everyone I take on has much better cards than mine.

try the guy in costa del sol, super easy because it has a Swap rule and Sudden Death. so even if your cards are shitty, if you can capture some if his and Draw, you'll start the next round with the cards you captured. You can get Y'Shtola (3*) and Minfilia (4*) from him.

I'm looking to get back into this after only playing a bit at launch.

I played (and enjoyed) a rogue in FFXI, are they any good here? How about ninjas? Seems like they'd be a popular class.

Otherwise, I think Arcanist / 学者 looks appealing until the new Astrologers(?) come out?

Hmmm, maybe I should just wait until I can reroll as an Au Ra.

Is this a pretty casual, farily solo-friendly game? I have a 2 1/2 month old who may call me away at pretty much any time...

Rogue is the class that becomes the Ninja job so you'll get to experience both. It is actually pretty similar to the Thief in FFXI in that Ninja gets both Trick Attack and Sneak Attack (though they work a little differently in XIV).

The game is definitely a lot more casual/solo-friendly than XI. You can solo a lot of the content except for some of the mandatory group dungeons and boss fights. There's plenty to do if you only have a few spare minutes to play here and there, though of course a lot of the high-end content is more demanding of your time.

Well, least it's not a dupe.

The Easter stuff going up on the cash shop I think means they're out of event content to sell me. I missed Easter last year because I was all of level 12 or 13 when the event ended, but I think I hit every one after.

Also seems like buying the minion now is a terrible idea, given the note that they're working on a way to make minion purchases account-wide.

I fucked up.

This hurts me.

I've still never gotten a ticket with a possible 6 on it. I just need 100K so I can buy the Gambler coat and then stop caring about MGP. That's just so many dance offs and King Elmer matches.

I'll give those Triple Triad players a shot! There's so much to do -- I've been gone since 2.2 -- but TT sounds like the most fun. I loved playing it in FFVIII.

I just tried FFXI for the first time and found that game to be much, much more welcoming to beginners. In about three weeks of play (perhaps 30-35 hours in-game), I've explored some areas, leveled my character, done quests, etc., and there was nothing that would have been confusing or strange for someone who had only ever played conventional offline RPGs. The controller setup and the menus, particularly in battle, are just about the same as in all previous offline FFs. There's the issue of not being able to pause, and of things happening while you're in a submenu or looking at the map, but in general you can ease right into it. I wish I had played this first.

FFXIV, on the other hand, seems more like a game for people who have already played at least one MMO, become familiar with the concepts and especially the jargon and abbreviations, but have less time each day to play. It throws all kinds of weirdness at you. Elemental magic means nothing now? I can cast Fire at Ifrit and it will hurt him? Ice magic is for restoring MP? I have to target things and then select an action? (That's as if we had to another language with the words in a different order learn.) I have to press buttons twice just to interact with anything?

I'm really glad I tried FFXI, and would recommend it over FFXIV for someone new to MMOs. This game, while beautiful and fun and much more future-proof than FFXI, is not for beginners.

(I do like FFXIV. But the learning curve is pretty steep for someone who's never played an MMO.)

Trying to decide whether to get game time to this (to get to level 50 and gear up), or WoW (to gear up). Halp meh!

So far it hasn't been the AI, but rather the high-quality cards that everyone nut me has at least one of. In FF8 you could turn enemies to cards, and use your one really good early-obtained card (Ifrit) to win some matches, but I feel like my default cards are

I like some of these exotic new rules, though! Having to play the cards in the order they are dealt... that would never have occurred to me if I were designing new wrinkles!

This has been my experience with TT so far, too. My cards are SHIT compared to all the NPCs.

I fucked up.

I'm genuinely interested to know what you uncovered that lead you to select that line.

Most of the times your cards will be shit vs an all 5 star NPC deck.
Most NPCs seem to have grabbed a handful of amazing cards then said FUCK THE RULES, except you. You play by all the rules. Even the dumb ones like chaos.

Well sure. But the Golden Saucer basic NPC has 2~2* cards that make my life hell more often than not. When he has both 2* cards in his deck in a match, he can take any of my cards at any moment with those in his deck. It's annoying. Of course, I have only received Ixal, Moogle, and Bomb as new cards. So I don't have too much to work with.

It's the end times.
I finally got my zodiac
Grats. Got mine this morning, took 72 dungeon runs altogether. I feel bad that I only had to run some dungeons 10 times to get my drop. So glad that the Zodiac I ended up going for is the one that I think looks the best.

Random rule? Fuck that in going pick my high quality deck each time while you pick random shit cards.

The rules where made for pvp totally forgetting the AI ignore them

Now for the babies zeta grind.
Such an easy road after ages of terrible.

Well, Four was uncovered when I bought the card. I chose, 6, 7, and the middle 3. I have won 3600 3 times on the line with the 7, so I went for it since I couldn't easily pick the 10,000. By my estimation I had a 10% chance either way of it being either 10,000 with middle down or, middle across.

I found a new solver after this card though that has a probability solver. After testing it with only inputting the 4, it solved for 10,000. Wish I had had it sooner.

If the revealed number isn't a 1, 2, or 3, my first slot uncovered is always one that has zero intersections with the revealed number (unless the revealed number is the middle one, then pick any). So in your case, I would have revealed the 1 or the 5 first.

The Triple Triad Tournament format could have been designed better. 1800+ points is probably needed to place top 3 this week for the card and will be achieved by abusing the format - too late for me after figuring out how the point system works.

I'm pretty sure if I stay undefeated for my last 6 games I'll be 1750ish. I only played 2 people worth less than 100 and I did beat a guy that had 110 on the screen but probably not enough.

I think most people who reference this are talking about the way FFXI used to be when it launched, and was for many years after (I quit around the end of CoP myself). The people who I talk to about it who still play basically say its a totally different game now.

Those days trying to solo anything past level 18 was basically impossible until you outleveled it by 6-10 levels (excluding BST of course). Nowadays I gather it's very very solo friendly.

Really? I feel the opposite. Of course, I'm comparing my experience to when I first played FFXI back in 2007.

The only thing I felt that was steep in terms of a learning curve so far in FFXIV was learning how to play it on a Dual Shock 4.

And there we go, haha. Not to mention as soon as you got into the double digits you had to get into a party to get any worthwhile experience (and even then it would still take a long ass time to level).

So is the tournament just face 15 people (or one person a bunch of times) with a high enough rank deck, smoke them and win?

That seems dumb. At the very least they should have created an instanced match maker or something. Like an NPC you talk to in order to fight a random person also talking to the NPC.

People are worth more or less points dependent on their skill level supposedly. I don't know where it's drawing it's conclusions from though.

The #1 on Shiva has 1,839 points with 15/15 wins

People with multiple alts that have Gold Saucer access can be easily abused to hit these types of numbers.

I finally unlocked high level and expert roulettes this week so I can actually start banking poetics at a decent rate at long last. So now I need some advice, what's a good mix of World Of Darkness and Ironworks gear for a black mage? I have the demon boots, belt, gloves and robe, and ironworks boots (not upgraded, bought mostly for glamour...) and a ring (upgraded). I have one carbontwine and I can get either reward from the weekly, whichever is necessary for the upgrade.

I thought about getting the ironworks breeches or hood because they have good secondary stats (...right?), is that a good plan? Someone more knowledgeable please advise. In the meantime I think I'll grind WoD for the hat.

I went with the hood myself. It's BIS when upgraded
according to most . The only WOD piece I use currently is the skirt and belt. But, to each their own.

Medium sized fcs can just boost the numbers of one player too. The system is bad with such a small sample size (15 games).

Yeah, I'm baffled that there isn't some sort of matchmaking system. They did it for chocobo racing. Tournaments are too easy to abuse as they are now.

It depends what you are going for, how much accuracy you need, what you are wearing at the moment etc. Why not take a look at the WOD and poetics sets and plan from there?

Meh, I'll finish out my last few games honestly. If I can win all those too then I'll rank pretty high.

They can only boost so high. My head math was bad earlier. If I keep playing people with a base reward of 100 and win them all then I'll finish closer to 1830

Some people are able to get to 1500 after 8 matches. Assuming there are enough smart people on our server, we have no chance. At this point, I'd rather use my remaining matches as data points to determine the formula used for calculating match winnings.

Terrible, I don't understand why they didn't just do random matchmaking with an Elo score system. Still abusable on small servers but at least closer to being fair.
