Dumb glamour question: any 'proper' helmets that allow long hair, ala the Goblin Cap? While the Cap is clearly the best helm in the game, I was hoping there was something a little more armour-y.

So after a year, I've booted FFXIV up again and I think I'm gonna go all in and stay. Problem is...I completely forgot how to play this game lol

They need to remove the rare cards from the prize pool completely. That's not how competitive CCG works. All the remaining 5 star cards except Lightning because she sucks anyways should be distributed to the various NPCs, Primals, or dungeons as drops. Right now the Top 3 Wintraders on each server gets Lightning. This is definitely the right way to distribute rare cards in a CCG amirite?
Prize pool for tournaments should be limited to MGP only. 140k MGP is a shitload of MGP no matter how you slice it, people will want that prize.
This doesn't change the fact that they do need to fix tournaments, but unless Squenix really wants to invest the enormous time and effort to create matchmaking systems with rankings and ELO and serious algorithms for matching players like what you see in Starcraft, LoL, DOTA2, etc. there's not going to be any kind of easy fix. It's not easy developing matchmaking systems from scratch and most MMOs just don't care because it's not worth the developer effort. So Squenix needs to just release all the tournament rare cards as normal drops and go with straight MGP as prizes.

So what is the best ethers/elixers to use for SMN? I know they run into mp issues in Final Coil so I'm trying to get by without having to beg for Ballad. I know i will have to beg regardless but still!

You really think they care about how balanced the "competitive" part of this is? I mean what CCG limits the kind of cards you can play until you have enough of them. The game is already massively imbalanced towards whoever spends the most time grinding on npcs for good rng.
Since I cannot see them making a good matchmaking system, the only way I see them making tournaments fair at this point is removing the PvP aspect altogether. Create some tournament specific npcs, players with top points from beating them win. If they want to keep the ridiculous card reward then make the tournaments way more common, like daily, and people who have gotten the cards will stop doing them over time.
Since there may be people who actually do want a PvP aspect, add a simple system similar to the current tournament (you get x amount of games), but make the tournaments created by players. You buy in a certain amount when joining the tournament, and the prizes come from that pot. If anyone is found win trading they can be booted/blacklisted by the tournament host, but since the tournaments will be far smaller that would be rarer to begin with.
Our SMN uses potent poison pots and x-potion of int over x-ether. I think the Ruin changes fixed a lot of the MP issues he had. He also geared himself out of spell speed as much as possible.
X-ethers is more for BRD and WHM.

You do need to activate the account on the PS3, at least I don't believe there's another way to initially link the PS3 code to your square account.

Farming Elmer for MGP is pretty deviously designed. It's easy enough and the reward is high enough to seem like you're making progress, but in terms of actually affording anything worthwhile it's a serious slow grind.
But given the lack of anything non-racist to do at this point, I guess I'll take it.

all but 2 dungeons were acquired within 1-3 runs for me.
Ranketsu the true Phoenix, being risen from is drg status (aka dead) to stand there while dots killed the boss.
With a decent(2star) deck you can make 5k an hour or so off the indolent imperial. He also drops 2 and 3star cards like candy, which actually add up over time. That's still like 200 hours if you want a fenrir, but it's better than most of the King rates I've seen.
The MGP rate vs cost of stuff is pretty insane though.
There's been a dev post on JPN side about Triple Triad. No details, just thanking for feedback and that they will look into potential rule changes for the next tournament. Thought some people might want to know.

You can do the upgrade without a PS4 can't you? Or at least start it.so glad the ps4 upgrade campaign only ends next month!
I can only buy a PS4 in two weeks haha. For now I just have to continue playing on PS3

You can start it but 1) it cancels your PS3 account when you do and 2) you need to register the code they give you on your PS4 before march 31st otherwise it becomes invalid. Which, if you don't, you end up with no game anymore, I wonder what happens then, I guess you call them and get to revert it to PS3 but that sounds pretty annoying.
Anyway, you can't like confirm the change without having a PS4. You could use a friend's PS4 to log on your PSN account and get it done though I guess, but you're not playing the game for that entire time unless you grab another PS3 copy(they are stupid cheap though). Originally I was planning to buy a PS4 with Bloodborne and do the transfer then, but I figured if there's any issue with the whole thing, considering Bloodborne releases so close to the end of march I'll be fucked, so I bought my PS4 a couple weeks ago instead and got it done asap.

Though one way to go around it (if you don't plan on playing the PS3 version anymore) is to upgrade and redeem the code on the PSN store online. I'm not getting rid of my PS3 when I get my PS4 so I'll just have to wait til I get it haha.

You don't need to update the game, just install it, which is still long but not that bad. Then when you log in the first time it lets you link account and THEN you can download(similar to PC launcher, you can only download the game with an active account), but you can just turn it off at that point.
You can only upgrade once so they don't really have much of a reason to stop that. It's a good way to get the console version though, that's what I did for mine, just so I have it on PS4 too. I don't plan on playing it on console but who knows maybe I'll want to do TV gathering or what not.
I wish I still had my PS3 version -- the Full HD option that is only available on the PS4 results in fonts that are far too small to read, so I'm playing in SD even on a PS4. If anyone knows where I can reacquire the game on the PS3 for less than a regular month of play, I'm all ears.
Now for another question that might be useful to been-away-for-a-while returners: what happened to Hunts? Last summer, they were all the rage (and were ripping the community apart); now, what use are they? I spotted one in Mor Dhona and completed it today, with just one other person, and we didn't seem to get anything for doing it. No tomestones, no nothing?

you can set the resolution to 720p before the character select.
Will the fonts increase in size accordingly? This sounds like the ideal way to play the game.
Actually, I want the fonts to be as sharp as possible, as well as being big. Can I set the game to run in exactly 3/4 of full HD size (1920x1080, so 1440x810) so that the fonts will still be sharp? Upscaling them at an odd ratio makes them even more eye-strainy than the small size makes them.
You can increase the size of the font by a lot in the options.
You did a B rank. B ranks now only give reward if they are your weekly and can be solo'ed so people only do it once. There are still people doing A ranks, but more were doing it right after they added unstained blood marks,and S ranks are always a crowd gathering event.

As for the font sizes, the options are, to be blunt, worthless. They don't go anywhere near high enough. The default (100%) font size at 720p is not big enough for me, and as I understand it, the font sizes are in pixels rather than a percentage of the screen height, so when you switch to Full HD, the fonts all become only 2/3 (720/1080) of what they used to be. This means that even if you choose 140%, the "biggest" font size, they're still smaller (2/3 * 1.40 = 0.933) than the already-tiny default 720p size!
I really don't understand why there's no 200% font size option. I'm willing to sacrifice an entire generation (PS3 -> PS4) of graphical upgrades to make the fonts more readable. SE could eliminate this in an instant if they just had better font size options.

You guys got a favorite Zeta design? PLD and BRD look amazing to me. I don't like the Monk Zeta design, it doesn't look as powerful or unique as the Nexus Sphairai.
