Ghost of Yotei | Review Thread

IGN and Eurogamer have long made a living by attracting attention by bashing highly anticipated games in order to stir up progressive controversy and generate traffic. They're trash.

IGN?
Didnt they give this game an 8?

What highly anticipated game did they bash.
I always though IGN were actually alittle too forgiving of games.

Eurogamer review is brutal.
Prob didn't get Sonys give it a good score payment , to me don't trust scores anymore cause there that much that goes on with companies paying out reviews to give favourable reviews it's a joke, for me still got the Charlie thing in my head and the way Sony and sucker punch reacted don't give a fuck about this game , like always there will be a load of little Sony sheep saying one thing and still supporting Sony, if this game is a massive hit will just show Sony and its studios they can do whatever they want and say and people will still rush to buy there games

you must admit the era we are in right now is extremely woke.

Every single review has a dedicated section for feminism, gender identity, diversity and blablabla.

The vast majority of people don't give a fuck if you can play as a genderless blob person, they just want a good game.
The "vast majority of people" happily destroyed Concord, times change, consumers seem to become clever to bullshit way faster than marketing can adapt. Maybe the mass isn't as "ill informed" anymore, just saying.

The airtight games media to consumer pipeline doesn't exist anymore with shit like X and YouTube. Pretending things haven't changed dramatically probably isn't a great approach.

There's still a lot of legacy assumptions doing the rounds on boards like gaf/era/reddit etc which may be why you still get stunts like Concord. It still persists.

First of all, reviews are at best an indicator. No need to care about every details of every reviewer, nor their audience.

I've been on both sides, including being staunchly "anti-woke," but then I realized that the perceived influence of these movements is mostly fueled by confirmation bias.

The fuck are you talking about?

Oh wait, isn't that the lovely lady that tweeted a few years ago that she and her wife were Antifa, and also handled criticism about Yotei at first reaaaaally well?

Yeah, lovely woman, lol. Still, doesn't mean she can't be a great voice actress for the game, on the other hand a game like this I really wouldn't want to hear English VO.

That's legitimately scary as hell, the fuck is Sony thinking?

that review by Eurogamer is so spot on, man. This series is gorgeous but extremely shallow asf. I remember beating KCD1 and jumping straight to GOT, was so shocked how shallow and outdated all the mechanics were, wasn't expecting a deep gameplay mechanics but man how can a game so goddamn pretty but got a game design like it was made for a handheld console like the PSP. If this game came out in 2007 and Assassin Creed didn't exist yet it would be the greatest thing ever.

You can't trust reviews when it comes to games at the heart of the culture war.

We saw Kinda Funny pretend Dragon Age and Concord were great games. We will see more of this as the war rages on, unfortunately.
The war is kind over, these woke games/media ll fade out in the next years.

And thats your answer, people want an assassins creed game but without all the excessive MTX BS locking off half the content and rewards.

It doesn't need to be the best or most complex game ever made, it just needs to be better than Assassins creed as a whole package, and most people can agree it does that. Thats why it was successful.

Im taking some time off next week to play it, hopefully its good but im not expecting GOTY, I am however expecting something better than AS Shadows.

Can you explain what are the next gen gameplay features of KCD1, that make Yotei look old?

The crying is glorious already. Will be glorious also in the sales thread about this game too. Stop being miserable all the time people.
Yep! This place has become a place to shit on games for no real reason. The negativity is crazy. I think some spend more time criticizing games than actually playing and enjoying them.
Game looks fab. Preorder justified.

Who is deciding if there is a reason to criticize a game? So we just allowed to cheer for games?

i mean i've always played on Playstation but let's not do this. Their criticism seems actually fair. And honestly i fee that with most Sony's open world games. Most of them feel like they would work better as linear single player game, in my opinion.

I give that 4 tin foil hats out of 5.

The Eurogamer review seems very fair. It's disappointing to hear that they didn't fix the most glaring issues of Tsushima. The franchise is basically visually flashy, but hollow.

I'm convinced people in this community don't actually like video games.

Just arguing about culture wars.

Nah, its just a very loud minority who've taken it upon themselves to become the new hall-monitors.

Just keep reminding them that they are no better than the woke progressives and shitting up the collective discourse by turning everything into a statement of allegiance/defiance to their chosen ideology.

100% GAF is not what it used to be. I came back here because we talked about games period......and did not crap on them every chance we got. But now, negativity, warring and trolling everywhere.
It's like GAF just welcomed all of the trolls and culture war/politics clowns from other places and let them run rampant for website traffic.

I agree......just a little iffy on the saying "minority". Seems it used to be that way.........but lately it feels like a cancer that keeps getting worse.

Not everyone wants the smoke from directly pushing back against the stupidity.

Holding to the civil, rational, centre-ground where you point out bad actors both sides of the aisle isn't an especially popular position!

Won't even make the nomination this year based on review scores.

Expedition 33
Donkey Kong Bananza
Death Stranding 2
Hades 2
Hollow Knight Silksong
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 (or Trails in the Sky, it reviewed higher)
There's a high chance that one out of the two indie games will make it for GOTY.

The 5th and 6th spots are between Split Fiction and MH Wilds/Kingdom Come 2 or Yotei.

It is probably 50/50. I think it gets in over KCD2, mostly due to the politics. Split Fiction would be the closest contender to Yotei. Battlefield 6 has potential, but I think the middling campaign will sour voters

There was clearly something going on behind the scenes to try to pretend that Veilguard was an amazing, back-to-form, high-end RPG. And then they tried to lie about the game's massive success until it no longer became tenable. It was very weird. Ideological concerns are clearly driving review scores for a lot of these sites and it should be expected. A lot of these are blatantly ideological! Why do people think that they will be ideological in their news coverage and previews and if you go on the X page of their writers they are all super ideological but they will leave all that behind when they review a game? It's absurd.

That said, I haven't seen where the ideology of this game lies outside of plain-looking woman as a main character and that weirdo who plays her. I don't know what this story is going to be. I also think these websites have a vested interest in downplaying these elements if they are there, they are not to be trusted. So, until the game comes out and people play it, no way to know. And I won't be playing it.
