Kotaku Rumor: Microsoft 6 months behind in game production for X720 [Pastebin = Ban]

I really really would love Microsoft shut mouths at 21/E3, the melting down could be great, but well, I guess you're right and all rumors are real.

If Durango turns up and it makes the PS4 look like rotten onions on dry cheese, then hey.

I'm just trying to keep an objective look, making sense of the situation.

i wouldn't be surprised if the games they show on the 21st look really really good graphically. it's just something i've kind of expected all along,

I expect them to look great, but be downgraded a lot when you see them on console. It'd be a wise marekting tactic (ie misleading consumers) when the competition has a much more powerful console. A lot of the games won't be ready at all anyways, so they'll show at least some prerendered and CGI stuff which always looks great (remember the killzone trailer?)

That being said, art direction >>>> technical power.

They will, 1.23TFLOPS & 8GB of RAM is a lot in a closed box the games will look good anyone expecting the games not to look good are crazy.

It is just a wish, some people are acting like in a war, "MS will loose", "Sony is the best", "RROD", "hahaha", and I really think we need a real competition, not a war, competition is good.

But I know where all rumors are pointing, and I'm not a blind guy, it is only that I take rumors as a rumor, not a fact.

I have a question: from a rumor (for example, the kotaku rumor), how much is the real source info and how much are speculative things from the page?

Which is not possible, few weeks after May 21 they need to have playable demo at E3 or it won't even release at this year

Yep. If you want to "lie" about a game that's not going to be playable and release this year, you can. You can't however pull that off with launch games. E3 2005 was different for Sony, because they weren't launching for 19 months. Microsoft doesn't really have time to fake it. I expect the games to look good, and be real. Unless of course they show 2014/2015 stuff at the reveal. Either way, come E3 we'll have to see something.

Yep.

It's not the early games I'm worried about. It's if Durango is weaker, how much better will PS4 versions of games look/perform a few years in.

Not trying to be a MS warrior, but MS has really never done this have they. As in "shown a game that will not be representative of the final product".

It seems that, all things considered, Sony was the most ready for a next-gen outing. But we'll see about that.

With nothing to go on officially, you can't reasonably come to this conclusion. If MS comes out on the 21st and it seems like they are disjointed and unorganized then yeah that statement can be made, but until that time the only reasonable train of thought is that this is what MS had planned all along.

Why not just run it off a PC version or show pre-rendered cutscenes? The game can still be playable on the Xbox in time for the holidays, with a demo for E3. I'd just be worried as Microsoft because it is at a large hardware disadvantage graphically if the rumours are true.

The press always gets to play the games at E3, though. If Microsoft didn't let people get any hands-on time at E3 the press will kill them, and then people should be worried. Also I relly don't think the spec difference will be noticeable on day 1. I think games built to take advantage of the PS4 will eventually make it noticeable, down the road.

Nope. Check my link.

E3 Halo 2 cannot be topped.

I forgot about H2. Yeah you win with that one.

Whoops, my fault. I guess that just didn't click with me. I always think about Killzone, motorstorm and Killing day?(I think that was the one that impressed me the most) when I think about bait and switch tactics.

Those are definitely infamous but I would put H3 up there because the final game not only extremely short of the reveal trailer but it looked pretty bad in general. Also screw Luke Smith.

They showed this CG demo during the reveal of the original Xbox, the actual real time demo was quite ugly

And why run it off a PC version?
I found out people keep using worst way to talk anything about Microsoft

Arguably the deepest stable of 1st party development and one assumes they learned a hell of a lot when it comes to hardware from the PS3 debacle. I'd also consider them the friendliest console platform for 3rd party devs, from what I've read.

Seems like a good position to be in but never underestimate the ability of a megacorp to cock it up.

I think you're mixing something up. This is the infamous Halo 2 E3 trailer.

All of this was scrapped for something else.
...Then why post this video?don't think they will give us a scrapped level for a game will release this year

Btw it seems all of that were from Peter Moore era.

Think we will be speaking of Deep Down like this in a year or two?

Nope, Deep Down was presented as a tech demo and not even of a final title. Halo 2 was presented as "the game you will be playing on release" and it was just total bullshit smoke and mirrors. Don't think part of me will ever forgive Bungie for that.

Lol, are you serious? MS can't go to E3 with CGIs and pretend to launch this year. Sony showed CGIs at 2005 because their plans was a 2006 launch.

I think you could argue that the use of a UI in the deep down demo was very misguiding.

I felt like that was a little bit of a slap in the face to the audience.

Deep Down wasn't a tech demo. It is a placeholder name for a new IP running on the new Panty Raid engine

I'm just going to leave this here.

For the lazy.

Truly, the GDDR5 Ram was the choice of a 12 year old, Sony is rushing the console and Nintendo is the reason why.

Damn Michael Cerny is so damned earnest. He's like the best face to put forward for this "new Sony" I can possibly think of judging by the results so far. Enthusiastic without being egotistical, prideful in the tech without petty insults at competitors and the PERFECT ideas about what is important for gaming technology, which is the piece Nintendo was always missing with Iwata.

I just hope this translates into real world success because it seems they're earnestly trying to improve things from PS3 a metric fuckton, and because so much of PS4 is pro-consumer so far.

Yeah he was a excellent choice and it says a lot about what Sony's thinking is going forward with this system. The fact that he found himself getting more enthusiastic and concerned about what the next console would be, asking to be the lead engineer and actually being granted that position is pretty crazy.

...and he made Marble Madness in his teen's
so,
the man can basically do no wrong.

and his name is Mark, not Michael.

Mark, Michael. He'll always be creepy stalker looking guy to me who also happens to be totally rad so far.

Marble Madness was so good back in the day. I keep forgetting that factoid about Cerny whenever people mention him, but that IS pretty good. And the game was pretty innovative for the time, and actually has some direct ancestors in modern games (Mercury Meltdown, Monkey Ball, Kororinpa).

Yeah, there's just a lot clicking in place for this PS4 project. What we need now is for Sony not to lose any major third party titles, because they can't afford that, and for the PS4 to come in AT LEAST at the same price as Durango.
