What happend in Cleveland? The place would sell out every night during that streak and now they're 28th in attendance and 30th in % during a playoff hunt. 3 teams that currently have playoff spots rank in the bottom 8 in attendance.

Anything more than 5 years for Cano is a disaster.

I would be OK with 6. He would play all of his last season at age 36 and would not be too bad. Teams expect to have to eat the back end of a contract when it comes to big FA. 6 years would not have too much in the way of a horrible mess. 3 years at elite, 2 at very good, 1 at good and it would work out.

They stopped being good and fans stopped showing up. During that streak the indians were always near the top of the league, the last so many years any run they have made fell apart by august.

I need the playoffs to get here already though so I can start caring and rooting for the tigers and pirates instead of rooting for the white sox to lose more (though picks 1 and 2 are locked already so i just need the white sox to lose one more game to lock draft pick 3 for next year)

The AL central is going to be really interesting soon though. The tigers still have a few more decent years in them, the indians look good, KC shows real potential. The Twins have a farm system that should fix them up in the next few years, and the white sox at least have a pretty solid set of starting pitching (just need a catcher, and third baseman, and a lead off hitter, and a bull pen, and a first baseman, and a.... yeah lol)

Well I know that they dropped off and their attendance fell but I'm surprised at how low it is this season with a team that is competing. I though the city would rally around the team and attendance would get a nice boost.

to be fair the last two years the indians were making a run for it at some point in the season only to fall super hard... the fans are likely fool me once shame on you... fool me twice shame on me... YOU WONT FOOL ME 3 TIMES! :p

but yeah you would think that they would be packed for these last few games.... but they were just playing the white sox.... who wants to see anyone play the white sox lol.

The problem is that people look at the 90's and think that's supposed to be the norm. But in the long view (since the mid 70's) Cleveland has been a horrible baseball town.

The mid to late 90's was a perfect storm. You had a downtown economic renaissance, you had a new stadium, you had a historically great team, you had no Browns football and you had an overall resurgence in the popularity of baseball nationwide.

Those conditions will never be duplicated again. So, it's an extreme outlier within a 40 year window of being a bad baseball town.

The Indians are fortunate that the Dolans are Clevelanders at heart and actually have a fondness for it's history. A more practical owner would look at the situation and start looking elsewhere. Next year is going to play a big role in the history of this franchise. If attendence doesn't bounce back after they 1) spent money 2) won baseball games ... even they might have a change of heart.

The Indians are going to spend some money. They are the next in line behind the Dodgers for a sweetheart TV deal that's going to pay them a shit ton of cash. So they're about to start opening the checkbook too.

They'd rather chill at the casino then watch the Indians break their hearts :p

Apparently Selig is stepping down today as commissioner. 3pm conference today
Used the town to leverage new stadiums for countless teams.
Sold the franchise rights to a known cheapskate that was in it for the money.
Ruined the team's chances for a new stadium because of the approved revenue sharing plan.

This one is for you, Selig.

Get fucked. I hope you visit Philly.

Indians had an attendance of just over 30k for their last home game.
Also:

Indians have enjoyed a 23% increase in wins this season (so far), but finish with a 9.8% decrease in home attendance from 2012 to 2013.

Pathetic.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the economy in Cleveland isn't the greatest, so even with a better team, attendance probably won't surge like it should. Plus people are saving money for Browns tickets and then selling them cheap on eBay once the Browns touch a football.

This is pretty cool to watch.

Shame the Yankees suck so bad. Definitely not the way Mo's career should end

You're a pathetic Jets fan and use to be fan of The Knicks. I bet you weren't even a fan of The Devil Rays when they were one of the worst teams in the league year in and year out. So, you shouldn't be talking.

I rooted for the Devil Rays when I moved to Florida. So that was 2004 or so.

You can't accuse somebody of being a bandwagoner when they root for the fucking Jets.

Surprised nobody is making fun of the Rangers for having a 4 error inning.

Doesn't stop the Tigers from selling well.

They won a World Series a couple years ago and went back last year. If the Indians actually fielded competitive teams for multiple years like that, or hell, went back to the WS. you can bet Attendance would be way higher. They're just tired of our teams shitting on us.

Not really a good excuse when you can't outdraw a team that is purposely shitting on themselves.

Why are we talking about Florida and second rate New York teams?

The eighties have been gone for more than a couple years.
