Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

But that's the thing......it's not my point. It's the point of the "Anti-Woke". They were the ones to push BG3 is a woke game. Not me.

Man your insane if you think people don't want Vasquez as a main character.

And the bolded is my issue with some of you guys. Because "IF" Intergalactic is successful, you'll just say "wokeness" wasn't the central theme and it also doesn't count. The goalposts are always being moved.

Nuance is important. You mentioned people calling BG3 woke. I don't see it as such. It's a full RPG with every option available, not comparable to Dragon Age in the least. Still, there is a minority who think differently but those are not representative of the general opinion.

People are speculating about Intergalactic based on precedents. It might turn out very good or crap, we don't know. If the game proves good, most people will agree with that, regardless of Jordan's looks.

Vasquez was not a main character it was a side one with a male counterpart that offered balance, and she definitely didnt look like an androgynous thing, at lewst she had some boobs 😅

The MC was Reapley and she is one of the great ones because she is not a insufferable overpowered girl boss androgynous quasi-male ugly "woman".
You know nothing about the character Jordan except of how she looks, and you are judging based on that. You scared little monkeys are too trigger happy with this stuff.

Can you name a single successful NEW IP where wokism is a central theme? I don't mean side minor elements (Horizon) but something unapologetically "in your face" as in Dragon Age.

There's none. The reason is that wokeness can't create anything new. Their productions are perverted copies of those created by better people.

Intergalactic might be the first one IF it turns out woke, something that we can't tell yet.

There are only a few games with very strong "woke" elements. Life is Strange is a popular one, and it's a successful franchise.

It's just like what mckmas8808 said, goalposts are being moved. lol

If Star Wars Outlaw and Dragon Age can be used to prove gamers hate wokeness, then there should be no problem with people naming successful games that contain these woke elements.

Life is Strange is an honest game that doesn't treat players like idiots. By honest I mean that it never pretends to be something different from what it is. Besides, it's a good game. I expressed it incorrectly when I mentioned wokeness as a central theme. I should have added, "in detriment of the theme that should be or was advertised as central". That is what people don't accept. Political isn't equal to propaganda.

In Life is Strange romance is the main topic, so there's nothing out of place. However, in a game like Spiderman, these elements feel shoehorned. Gameplay-wise, they don't make the game better, either. In Dragon Age this is extreme, to the point of becoming self-parodic.

Unfortunately, online discussions in twitter or Youtube are mostly visceral and black-and-white so there's little room for nuance. Giving Life is Strange a different treatment from DA is not moving the goalposts but acknowledging that these games don't do the same.

As for Intergalactic, I'm pretty sure that the same trailer with the same protagonist made by Larian or Kojima wouldn't have received that backlash.

Nonsense, they would fall in love with that second pic. Especially if he does what Joel does. He just loses his wrinkles and white hair looking younger and in better shape

You can even do a survey if you like and I bet most would choose the second image. It's not nonsensical. They're making fun of people concentrating too much on attractiveness of characters in a game as "woke" but from the perspective of the opposite sex.
They would fall in love with the second pic, but still end up on the first pic's lap. Complaining about men their own age.

In The Last of Us, Bill being Gay was revealed in the main game. There were no subtle hints at it and it was one of the main stories in that chapter.

Ghost of Tsushima features gay characters in side missions.

Detroit: Become Human featured a lesbian couple storyline. This game recently sold over 10 million copies.

Hell, even Cyberpunk 2077 features gay characters and options to make trans characters.

I mean sure if the go by the definition that having a single side character that's gay or a single optional storyline involving LGBT characters means the game is fully "woke" and no different than TLOU2 or DA Veilguard then, sure.
By that definition even DBZ is "woke" because it has characters like this guy:
tumblr_o6eqhlyFBw1uuj1vto3_500.gif

(and honestly Frieza is pretty androgynous too)

That's really the problem with the word and why these conversations are often pointless. Unless both sides can agree on a specific definition on "Woke" we'll just endlessly talk in circles.

Calling this forced pretentious bullshit "not as good as others" is an understatement. And calling a standard revenge story "completely different" uh-huh......
I think you'd really dig Indian cinema.

Some people even cry during "next supermodel" shows and similar filth... Or you could just cut an onion.

But yeah why am I discussing this with you of all people... The dozens of contradictions in the story and the bipolar jumpy characters have been discussed to death.
not "others"
I said it's maybe not as good as SOMA.
But it's way better than 99% of other games.
tlou2 is a masterpiece. You don't have to like it but it's an achievement in gameplay and narrative and one of best games ever made.
If we got more games of this quality, gaming would be so golden right now

The issue is we're reaching a point where certain people are freaking out and crying "WOKE!" for the most trivial reasons imaginable, and its strikes me that these types are on the same activist power-trip as the types they purport to be saving us from.

The canary in the coalmine for me remains Silent Hill Remake being attacked pre-release over Angela's jawiline, and Maria' top not being sexy enough constituting the "wokification" of the franchise.

It needs to be understood that some people are inevitably going to hijack this potential for outrage, to push their own narratives and agendas and even line their own pockets.

Vasquez is a true hero who sacrifices herself for her comrades, making peace with the asshole guy before they die. By doing that she's already better than the hundred female "badass" characters in the last 10 years.
And you know Jordan isn't like this, how? Maybe that's how she even ended up with those scars as part of the five aces? There is a lot of prejudice going round it seems. People are judging her character based on a short trailer that says very little about her or her "heroism".

People are pattern recognizers, they see a pattern, they expected more of it.
Many gamers now associate woke with poor quality, because most often the woke people who are employed by studio to make games are more passionate about their message than about making good games, and it shows.
Until this pattern changes, people's expectations will not change.

This is because of Druckman.
People already expect ND's next game to be ultra-woke, so the snippet they see just confirms what they already expect.
If TLOU 2 was never made, and none of Druckman's comments about Sarkesian was said, people would have different expectations, and more people would not be jumping to conclusions.
Druckman brought this on himself and ND.

Yeah that's true. I do think both extremes of the argument are annoying, including the people who scream "woke" as soon as there is a female main character or some LGBT character in a game.

That's why the word "woke" sucks, because everyone has a different definition for it. In my mind I do dislike woke products... but that's under my own definition where not everything with diversity or female characters is woke.
Like just recently I watched the second season of Arcane which is a show with a lesbian main character, a predominantly female cast and lots of racial diversity, and I thought it was great and didn't feel woke at all (it´s probably my favorite game adaptation so far). It's all about how many of these elements are in there, how much the show/game focuses on them, how preachy the writing is, how natural or forced they feel, the character design, how they fit into the world that is being presented, etc.

And yet TLOU 2 went on to sale at least 15 million copies in 4 years. So what does that "really" say about how people feel about TLOU 2?
This is like "But the Last Jedi didn't kill Star Wars, it made $1.3 Billion worldwide."

Yes it did, but it didn't do the numbers of the predecessor, and killed the reputation of the franchise which started a trend of increasing decline in sales.

My theory is that this latest game will not do the numbers of TLOU2, which sold less than it's predecessor as well.

Plot Twist: Jordan A. Man will be the villain and you play as her. She betrayed her crew which is why she isn't invited to the meet (4ch leak). And you actually are a massive asshole. It's the next logical step for Neil.

Also, as a man who regularly milks his nipples, I have more to say on this whole thing as we've not covered everything three times yet.

The image is really clean and I'm not as convinced as Olly from DF it's in-game. I believe its in-engine but I don't see being able to just control Jordan after supping that coke without a transition. The rest I'm kind of just a bit meh, the setting (boggy planet, mist, vegetation and a robot) doesn't really grab me after the recent games with similar biomes.

Stylistically it hits hard, but technically I still think Forbidden West is ahead. I was expecting ND to really set fire to this generation with the nature of their games and fidelity uplift because of their narrative, linear chapter driven design. It looks good but I was expecting more if that makes sense.

Also, ND has been at their best with duo's to bounce off. Nate and Sully, Nate and Chloe, Nate and Elena and that's why Sam fell flat in UC4. Even in TLOU2 the best day for Ellie was being back with Jacob. Abby and Lev were the best part of that game in terms of the writing and flow. So if the game is just Jordan I'm not really sure how that will work either. New ground I guess.

TLOU2 is selling faster launch aligned than TLOU did. And TLOU TV show was very successful. So you can't say it killed the reputation of the franchise.

Joel is better the way he is but the pic was meant to show that men are allowed to be rugged and rough while female characters have to look like models or people start screaming woke.
Because masculinity and femininity are not same?

You're basically saying, "the man are masculine and nobody complains but the moment a woman is masculine people call it woke".

Well, duh.

This is stupid, they're both attractive. Nobody wants Joel ugly and effeminate (which would be analogous to making women ugly and masculine).

Females become invisible after they stop being physically attractive, ask any 40-45yo hag, they will tell u how reality finaly hit them in the face once they had to pay for their own drinks ;)

So yup, if woman isnt attractive then she will be invisible and treated like most guys are treated all the time.

By that i mean, we dont wanna be around them, do anything for them, think about them, care about them etc.

That is harsh reality that feminism will never tell to women, take that avg 21yo hot babe constantly showing her tits and ass on IG, that gets more msges on Insta than A-tier male celebrity, make her 40yo and 250lbs and all her male "friends" vanish right this very second, no more priviledged treatment, no1 wanna fly her out to LA/Dubai/Miami nor offer her fun and expensive vacations anymore, from that point on she actually has to be competent :messenger_sunglasses:
The wall is undefeatable, so is father chronos, even if woman is among prettiest and most famous of the world:

She fricken dated mcgiver and superman in the early 90s, and Clooney in 2000s among other superhigh value men, and now at close to 60yo ... :

Precedent is key for sure. Once a dev starts to go down the path of uglifying and gender fluid-izing their characters it's a red flag that tells you were their priorities likely are.

We already know about the literal DEI checklists that you have to include X number of minorities, gender identities and other made mandatory story elements to meet approval, so if people see one thing it's logical to assume others will follow.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. I think the shaved head has hit a different nerve that would not pass anti-woke sentiments anytime soon, regardless of the studio. As a side character, sure. We can put up with them. But as the main protagonist. Hell no. The world may even come to accept a trans protagonist (in our lifetime.. maybe?), but a bald female protagonist is a bridge too far. We need our women to always have their make up on and hair done, right? Even when they get out of bed, they should look fresh like they never actually slept. They might survive in films but not in games, where, traditionally, player gratification is presumed to be available at all times. So... these meltdowns are going to rage on till the game is out and probably even more after that. That's the bed Naughty Dog has made, and they are probably happy to sleep in it.

Which just means old Joel is out of her dating range - he hasn't been uglified to fit an agenda. It also means she hasn't even understood what the criticisms about the (western) women characters designs are even about.
You can argue why the MC is so old to be unattractive to begin with much like people did with Selene.

They are but I get what you're saying. The amount of women vs men who play TLOU is likely small in comparison (as with console gaming in general) but would you expect them not to play it or complain online/boycott because the MC is not conventionally attractive? Have they gone on message boards and said this is why they choose not to play TLOU, because Joel is 'ugly' and could look better and this is what they need to do to "fix it".

developers shouldn't need to make every character in a game generic looking supermodels to appeal to the most women and men. They're characters. I like Joel with his white hair and wrinkles. It gives them character. I don't want focus group tested slop and I'm sure people here would be the first to complain about focus groups in that scenario too. if they started testing exactly what amount of hair apealed to the most people, what amount of wrinkles, greys and started making some generic ass characters.

That’s the problem with Jordan in Intergalactic though. She very probably is focus tested slop, because she portrays a lot of the characteristics of so many recent game protagonists. I think a lot of people here are unhappy about the fact she feels like a generic ass character as this point.

If she was focus tested there wouldn't be this backlash. She played the baddie in Uncharted the movie and likely ended up as the actor in ND's next game through that connection and performance, not through focus testing.

500k copies if far from "selling well", if anything, Returnal is the best example that people don't want to play as an old granny... Maybe if Selene was somewhat similar to Lara Croft the game would got a better reception, but we will never know, and with such sales it's questionable if there will ever be a sequel. The rest of the characters on the list are 100% alpha males (except Nico and Freeman, who fit perfectly for their roles), and needless to say all of them and their respective titles are huge and recognizable. Modern media can try to rewrite the rules, but you can't change people's mentality, you need to have a badass dude or hot chick if you want to attract more people into you game, movie etc. Because the reality is, people get in from of a TV to take a break from the reality, so no one wants mediocrity, people have that every single day of their real life.

I'll sign you up to that retirement home:

Many of them are so fugly they cant even be "abbied", like srsly granny from returnal is retirement home candidate, not a sex symbol, her sexual value is basically equivalent to bald 5feet dude that is 300lbs and lives in his van, with sexy female protag game could sell 2-3x more copies ezpz coz it wasnt bad game at all.

I watched the trailer again and now I'm sure, she has less muscles than Abby in fact she definitely has a normal female body, it's the ND engine that makes it look like there are muscles. I guarantee she has a similar body to Helena uc4, Nadine Ross and Chloe (Lost Legacy).

The woman is saying she finds the grey hair and wrinkles ugly though because they make him less attractive.

According to that premise, Jordan should be as attractive as this man. We both know the right answer.

UXbV3Tu.jpeg

As for Selene, she has the realistic looks of an astronaut. Her design is correct. Jordan is an action hero, a space headhunter. Those are hot by default, be it a man or a woman. Anyway, what interests me the most is how ND will adapt to a new genre. It's difficult to transition from a grounded apocalyptic story to space fantasy, with different gameplay and level design. I want them to show the actual game at once so we can move on.

This game is a real test for ND and Sony because they need a new franchise to replace TLOU/Uncharted.

I dont follow GotG movies or games, but what is the personality of the character? Political preacher? No nononsense balls to the wall cyborg solider?

A reason why people are making fun of Intergalactic's lead bald character is that where there's smoke there fire. And Druckmann and LOU are chock full of attitude and LQTB content. And some gamers just dont want that in a product. Druckmann himself even rages on Twitter in the past.

And just going by the trailer, the chances of Jordan actually being a kick ass action star with zero political attitude is basically 0%. I say basically because there's a chance it might be just a kick ass sci fi game with no politics or DEI, BUT lets face it. Even the biggest ND supporter knows given history and this trailer, there's good chance Intergalactic will be some kind of space lesbian story or preachy messages. You know deep down that big possibility is there again.

On the other hand, Witcher 4 got awesome like ratios even though Ciri took over Geralt. He was kicked to the curb. Instead of dislike bombing it, people still liked it. Why? Because Ciri is a liked character and the trailer was your usual "attack the angry CGI monster" action trailer. That's it. Practically every action or monster game has that kind of trailer. No clever plot twist or smarmy attitude.

As one of my old marketing prof's said (RIP because he died a year ago). "Marketing is simple. It's just common sense"

Witcher is too big to fail, you don't take serious the worst takes on the internet to prove your point

Hell, even the Cowboy Bebop knockoff with female Aang as protagonist might do great knowing it's a PlayStation exclusive and the amount of quality games are associated with the brand alone
