Wow. The level of vitriol being thrown around here for a simple announce trailer is mind boggling. We're getting a sneak peak look at a bounty hunter sci-fi space game that takes place hundreds of years in the future. To think that today's definition of what is or isn't "woke" has to be applied to it and its characters to make it acceptable is downright laughable. I suggest we wait until we see what the game actually is before we start crapping all over it. You may not like their politics, but there are very few developers that can turn out games as good as Naughty Dog. Just my two cents...

Not really absurd at all. Based on word of mouth and the performance of the first game, TLOU2 was supposed to be an easy 20+ million seller. It sold 10 million and 44% less units than the first game. That's basically almost half of it's addressable market gone.

This is Naughty Dog's LONG awaited new space opera IP and it is getting THRASHED on every platform I've seen it being discussed on. Gaming news and discussion isn't a niche internet bubble anymore, it's one of the biggest audiences across all social media.

Western culture has been flooded with this stuff and the country is ready to move on. We see it in all aspects of entertainment. This game started production in 2020 and it looks like it.

Not trying to get into a flame war but at a minimum, 51% of the audience is over this stuff. Some anti-woke people definitely take it to extremes and want weird weeb stuff in all of gaming but the overall vibe of the Intergalactic trailer represents everything that people are rejecting.

I just want well written characters that aren't pushing some kind of fringe social message.

What makes you think it will match the lifetime sales? Do you think they're going to stop selling TLOU 1 which is currently selling at a faster pace than the 2nd? We only have the data we have on hand now. TLOU 2 has been out for 4 years and it's sold 44% less than TLOU 1. Keep in mind that TLOU 1 just received a remake and has still yet to drop to bargain bin prices. It's a remake that's holding it's value remarkably despite the fact that it's a remake of a game that had already been remastered.

The fact that so many folks are vocal about their criticisms compared to just a couple years ago is proof enough that people aren't just gonna buy this kinda content anymore (and it's so heartwarming to see people finally say what we've all been thinking this entire time). We're done.

But this is a trend for Sony games, not really debatable. The horizon series, TLoU2 and now this from ND, returnal, and the new Ghost game. Even a game like concord had a heavy majority of the characters as female. Fairgame$, if I'm not mistaken too showed a female character for a majority of the reveal trailer. Not to mention in both SM2 and R&C you play as female characters too, even if they aren't the main characters. Its definitely noticable and personally I don't care too much. But it feels like at times it's being forced, as if that need to add female playable character off a checkbox before a game gets released.

I'll judge a game off it's off merit. I'm not gonna overreact like a lot in this thread and assume it's woke off the bat. It could turn out to be a kick ass character and game overall for all we know. We still know so little about intergalactic I think for anyone to make too strong and assumption. But it has been a trend for Sony overall, and I think it's fair to notice and criticize them for that, even a little bit.

Yea, I like most if not all of the games listed. Hell, you probably won't anyone else in this site that loves horizon zero dawn as much as me. My "issue" isnt necessarily the games are bad, but it's a trend for better or for worse. When things feel forced or needing to be in the game, it's doesn't feel as authentic or creative. I would have the same complaint if every single game had a dude bro male protagonist.

This game is getting torpedoed before it even leaves the docks. My question is if you're going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a project, why would you put it at risk with a decision like this? Firstly, for those who worked on the game and want their work to be enjoyed, why would you do this to them? Put them in a situation where people will immediately discredit their work without ever trying it? For investors, why do you think that they'd be ok with such an unnecessary risk?

Launching a new IP is a risky enough venture as it is. If you make the game too generic then it risks appealing to no one. If you make the game too niche, it also significantly reduces your addressable market. This game has already been in development for 4 years and at the first trailer, a large percentage of people have immediately written it off. A huge disaster imo.

based on what I have listen about DEI:

since the George Floyd situation, Investment companies/Consultants and HR groups became hyper aggressive pushing DEI. they usually argue that being diverse make your company more money, more competitive and able to reach more markets. They also say that demographics are changing. whites are shrinking and Black, Latinos and LBTQP are growing.

so, they have all these guides or practices to ensure your company and products are diverse. a lot things green lit around 2020-2023 are very heavy handed with this agenda. BUT before that, things like MeToo, Gamers Gate and the pride movement kind of help to create an environment of walking on egg shells of extreme political correctness and also white-straight men became the enemy. Which is fascinating because in one podcast from a DEI consultant, they recognize that DEI has become synonym of racisms against white people. (so, it's not a conspiracy theory from "grifters" online).

Companies (which only care about making money) are kind of blackmailed/forced by people in position of power (inside the company, Like Human Resources/creatives that believe in the "message" for example) to double down in this agenda. this is why it feels baffling.
