Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

This is the most down bad Sony gamers have been since the drought before Uncharted 2. Probably more so. This is uncharted waters for them as a brand in the realm of public perception. WTF were they thinking internally when they thought Concord would be a hit? Their two big hitters are almost identical aesthetically? Could it be the same universe? If so, I bet they rewrote the fuck out of those parts.

I love how one of these has been posting in this very same thread as well.
Yes how will I ever recover from this epic gotcha?

ND wasn't shit back then.

Thats because lets face it, no one gives a shit about Onimusha and ND is literally either the best or second best studio in the business after Rockstar.
It seems like it here yes, but the reality is Onimusha has definitely got the more positive reaction and excitement across the web.
This is more two side fighting over crap at this point.

And "Ship of Theseus" theory applies to both of those studios.

Maybe those alien would just have mercy with us. It's also likely that they gonna be alot more advanced to they would likely already know how to deal with this nonsense.

I kinda subscribe to the Dark Forest Theory. I'm not going to assume benevolence. We certainly don't show it to creatures mentally inferior to us on this planet. We didn't even show it to each other when one civilization was far more advanced than the other.

Forum is in danger of having a consensus opinion you don’t like, you mean. You can push back against that by stating your dissenting opinion. Your metacommentary about the forum makes the discussion worse.
come on bro you can't deny conversions here are vastly different to old gaf days, its definitely been way more political since 2020. Its just a vibe check.

Hard to read this thread, still at page 25 and everytime i make some progress its +2 lol

I mean since when did Naughty Dog innovate or make creative gameplay? Uncharted and The Last of Us are borderline movie games with uninspired gameplay mechanics, the cover shooting of Uncharted with endless amount of generic enemies and generic puzzles or the crafting and survival horror mechanics from TLOU?

We'll see how well Onimusha does, but the Capcom glaze is annoying. People got carried away with it when it came to the Dragon's Dogma 2 hype, and The Way of The Sword looks like it's covering A LOT of covered ground, in nearly identical ways.

People waited four long years to see a next gen only game from ND. They waited 11 years and two generations to see a new IP from ND. And all we got was a lame cutscene with one of the ugliest protagonist in recent memory, and graphics that arent blowing anyone away like they did back when they revealed Uncharted 4 for the first time.
no lies detected...

Strongly disagree with you here. The reception to Onimusha has been extremely positive. Will it sell more than a Naughty Dog game? No. But no one gives a shit about it? Come on man...

I'm very interested in Onimusha and think Capcom is leagues better than Naughty Dog at making video games. Your enthusiasm for Naughty Dog doesn't apply to everyone.

The only reason this thread is massive is because the reveal trailer was divisive.

TLOU2 is a contender for best TPS gameplay in any game.

Dragon's Dogma was always over hyped.
The worst outcome for Onimusha is that it may follow the Souls route, but with Capcom combat...

I want to touch on something, that Alien movie comparison, seems so out of touch, first that film was made in the 70s and 80s, the style was different back then, second that is a fucking film, a movie not a game, there is a difference, real people look different and we accept them easier, because we relate, we see them on a daily bases, but i dont know man, when it comes to something digital, if its ugly, its really ugly, its like it becomes worse, i swear if you take the same design 100% to 100% the real person wins every single time.
I'm not someone that cares too much about character looks, but if given the choice i'd make a good looking character most of the time, unless im memeing or roleplaying as something specific.
I think when it comes to photo realism models, Capcom does it the best, they just know how to squeeze good looking design out of them, because i notice a lot of Asian teams just go for ones that are clear and 100% computer built like in FF7 Remake.

TLOU2 is a contender for best TPS gameplay in any game.
I disagree, but even if we agree the gameplay is great, that doesn't mean its inspired and creative.
What makes it one of the best for you?
For me i like Returnal TPS gameplay for example, i find it silky smooth, highly responsive, challenging and varied and very tightly designed which doesn't leave anything behind.
TLOU2 gameplay prowess all get carried by its feel, it feels brutal and the hits are satisfying, most of the heavy lifting was done by the animation design, as far as A.I and stealth and shooting mechanics, its fairly within the standard.

No, but I'm not anyone to make you change your mind, so feel however you want.
Since you called me out I was just wondering where the gotcha in my old post was. Despite being negative on zombies (completely overused at the time) I still gave ND credit. Something I would not do today. Neil Druckman's "modern" Naughty Dog is nothing compared to the old days.
But never mind then.

I liked Onimusha 1. 2 was bad. And I never finished 3. The first one has aged incredibly badly. The last installment came out 18 years ago. This is a new ND IP and Druckmann’s next project. Is it really that surprising? I’m sure discussion surrounding Onimusha will pick up around here over time, but I currently find Non-binary: The Heretic Prophet more enjoyable to discuss and engage with. 😛

It was out of touch because we all know why Ridley has a shaved head in Alien 3.

I just don't get the point of making this comparison, Ripley and Sarah never looked attractive to me (Ripley was decent in the first film though and miles ahead of this character from ND), people are saying this new character doesn't look attractive, fine by me, i say let people speak, we don't need to correct them, if she turns out a well written character and people say she is bad then it should be debated but if people just talk about looks then thats fair.

It was just an example, and as I'm excited as fuck for it
Onimusha 3 was pretty good, but yeah Onimusha 1 is definitely the better then two, but two is still good with the exception of "Jubei....Jubei..."

It’s not Sony gamers that are outraged

We’re actually enjoying games this year and looking forward to games like IG in the future
When did Sony gamers change their interests? Last gen they loved dark and brooding single player sagas. This year they like super hero slop and gaas shooters? Try and help me understand when the changed happen. A lot of the prerelease hype for PS5 wanted more of the same. I don’t remember anyone asking for what’s been given this gen.

Is there a scenario where Sony loses your loyalty? What would it take?

I just noticed. WHERE IS HER HAIRLINE. It's a balding man hairline

Oh really? I find this design really beautiful. There's a passion / fire to her eyes that you just don't see in games these days

If you watch the trailer again, try looking at the character directly and you'll see what I'm talking about

10/10 character design and aesthetics, I am SO in love with the retrowave. Day one!!

There is absolutely nothing worth talking about here...

There's almost nothing worth talking about that is actually being talked about in this thread... if that's what you mean, I agree.

Seems obvious to me there's enough to talk about when it comes to the first glimpse of a new game from what is very obviously a top-tier AAA dev, a glimpse which is clearly a new IP & a totally new milieu for ND in terms of setting and design? But that thread, whatever it would be, is not whatever this is. And itcertainly wouldn't be 50+ pages in 24 hours... because as I said, this is just a teaser.

With a name like Jordan she's gonna turn out to be a he. Just like Lev in LOU2

I disliked Naughty Dog for a long time because I always had the impression they put story above gameplay, but I really enjoyed playing TLOU2. There’s no denying they can nail great gameplay if they want to.
