Naughty Dog Announces Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Given the comments were left open on every other official posting, it reads to me that Naughty Dog expected they'd get hate on their own channel, but they were expecting gamers to react positively elsewhere - otherwise they'd have disabled comments on all official PlayStation uploads from the get go too. Like I said, the gameplay reveal will need to be something special, otherwise I can see this stench sticking around.
I think it's a question of who controls each channel. Disabling comments on the official PlayStation channel would have been even worse

If you want your third person action game to look as realistic as possible, one of the best things you can do is make the main character have no hair or have their hair covered by headwear.

Making hair look right is still very tough in real-time. There was a reason we had so many bald space marines. Now we have another one.

Not having to deal with MC's hair in every single frame is to Naughty Dog's advantage. I find it hard to imagine this wasn't a factor in the design.

It's too early too write it off as woke trash . The game could be amazing mechanically and have a great narrative .

Returnal has the same garbage flung at it and it has top tier gameplay.

Unless the game has trans diaries or ramming woke ideology in our face.
Let's be honest. If this was a Ubisoft game most people defending its character design would absolutely not be defending it.

You know what, this thread is probably what makes NeoGAF Gold worthwhile, you just saw posts keep popping and popping, like in a chat box.

I pitty those peasant blue guys that have to smash their F5 to keep up with the concent.
I can't sub anymore. I refuse to gift myself. The ads on mobile have been killing meeee! I'm open to gifts though ;)

I'm just a little shocked at how poorly conceived and directed this reveal trailer is even against the low bar 5/10 of J. Lo's recent Atlas film.

Recent Tv shows like the Expanse. Lost in Space, Cowboy Bebop, Battlestar and even most recently Goonies in space effort SW Skeleton Crew all give off elements of survival horrors of space, and lean more towards resource sparsity on a ship, renewables and believable sustainability, and this trailer is doing electric shavers and disposable unrefrigerated 5hr spoiled milkshakes on a Razorback sized ship burning electric for jukeboxing physical CD-discs as though electric is a free resource in space.

What type of failed Trekkie writers have they got working on writing of this game? And how would an intelligent director miss that poor idea conception and even put it in the reveal trailer?

Already feels like the team are way out of their comfort zone to suspend disbelief in this one IMO.

I certainly take no issue with the Pet shop boys music which has always been just music, but given the background of the band and the lyric in the trailer feeling like a forth wall broadcast, I can't help but feel they've tried to co-opt the music for projecting which is a huge disrespect to the music.

Heh, that's between you and him I guess.

I just don't get why people get mad at men lusting for young women, don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Probably not a topic for a videogame board, so I'll leave it here.
It's because most guys in their 30's don't take care of their physical health (diet, exercise) and thus have no legitimate shot with 20 year old so they label it and cap on it. It's the same, old envious "if I can't have it, then nobody can" mentality and it (envy) is the most destructive element of the human psyche imo.

Until this ass creed shadows shit they've normally used a character that's relevant to the place.

Having a black guy in ancient Japan using made up history from a fake historian. There's no way to defend than. It's the definition of forced diversity.

Shaved head girl in a future sci-fi setting yeah trash design but doesn't mean the game needs writing off so early.

I can't really disagree with him even though I'm in the minority on this. The reception is poor. A lot of people don't like the character. And even though the trailer also got a lot of likes, the problem here is that now the conversation has nothing to do with what kind of game it is. It is about identity politics.

BTW LectureMaster LectureMaster , where did you find that gif of the girl in the trailer eating popcorn?

It's a modern social convention put in place so older women do not have to compete with younger women for mates when they are ready to "settle down". Shame and other forms of emotional manipulation are powerful tools. Weak men fall for it. One of the many societal wide shit tests. Notice the top men of every human society never abide this convention.

54 pages and counting, and social media is fully mixed to negative on this. I'm not sure Sony or Naughty Dog were ready for the community to turn on their new IP right out the gate like this. The gameplay reveal will need to be something special to douse that fire; if it's just "Naughty Dog's The Surge", God help them.
its just the anti woke internet squad. The game will be an adventure just like all their other games. Its the culture we are in right now

When announcing a new product to the world, especially one that's expected to be the face of a multi-billion dollar brand like PlayStation, a huge amount of work goes in to getting things right. Naughty Dog disabling comments on their channel wasn't some intern flipping a switch because Naughty Dog's community manager thought it for the best; that's a massive PR decision that would've been signed off on by PlayStation itself months ago. If you're correct, and PlayStation disabled the comments on Naughty Dog's trailer because they were expecting the negative reaction we're seeing across the spectrum, then they would've disabled it on their own, too. That they didn't tells us that wasn't their thinking. They disabled the comments on Naughty Dog's video because they expected Naughty Dog to get heat - they didn't expect their latest USD$300 million dollar Naughty Dog game to be bucketed alongside Concord by the majority.

I will probably get banned for this but fuck it, not a big deal. Also no offense meant to anyone here, but is there a forum that isn’t completely obsessed about shit being woke or not or about chuds being everywhere and stellar blade the most offensive game of all time etc etc.

Edit: character design isn’t fantastic and I don’t love short hair personally but she is obviously not ugly, and the game is likely going to be great. Have fun y’all

You'll have to create it yourself and rule of over with a iron fist. Anyone who has a dissenting opinion from you gets banned immediately.

I think Druckmann might be intentionally chasing for controversy, not necessarily in a bad way. I think as a creator this might be some thing in the DNA of his work and how he wants his work to be recognized. (TLOU ending for instance)

But yeah, I think he could just put efforts into plots rather than character design. While I can probably play a woke good game, I think most people just get really weary of those stereotypic but "progressive" characters by now.

Always a bad sign when a company or youtuber disables comments because everyone knows it's a negative shit show. Nobody disables it if everyone loves it.

If anyone at Sony/ND truly thought this game would get tons of positive vibes (that Onimusha trailer got ridiculous positive ratio like 99:1), they were all on quaaludes. Any gamer keeping up with modern day culture swing in games and movies/TV would have said it'd get a bad ratio. People have had enough girl power with attitude in media.

It also doesnt help for Sony games, that GoY is also a female lead. It's natural for an industry with tons of guys playing to prefer playing guys. So that will piss off gamers who dont want to play a female lead.

Asmon is 100% right. You're looking at a primarily male audience and you decide to trot out this trailer and focus in on the main character that doesn't appeal to your primary audience. Of course the reception is gonna be bad lol

This with the conjuction of people who like the game but take opportunity to namecall people on the process is probably doing a heavy disservice for them.

I was saying that ND runs its own channel. If PS had disabled the comments too on the PS channel (whether aware or not of the potential discourse), it would signify a company-wide behavior. (not just the studio)

and I'm assuming they knew (ND and PlayStation) because of what you said:

Unless they are completely incompetent and/or out of touch with reality. The fact that you mentioned Concord, (which absolutely looks like it takes place in the same universe). makes me remember what Colin said about being Hermen´s baby and their Star Wars and how it was going to shape PlayStation´s future....now I am even more scared.

It's probably also the reason she has more muscles than most man's. It's not just that she's bold, the whole body looks like a man. It's a big oof.

I hate that I actually think this looks interesting, I had written Naughty Dog off 100%, I groaned loudly when I saw the reveal it was them lol.

But, protag aside, it's an interesting setting, maybe Druckmann doing something that's entirely him, not mucking things that others were key talents on, can make it work.

Color me cautiously optimistic and willing to give it a chance.

Loved that they gave good ol' Pet Shop Boys some love!

The girl was not a sexbomb with huge breasts and ass, so the response here is of course very predictable.

The robot looked cool! Overall the trailer didn't really get my hype-juice flowing, but i'm obviously very excited for a new game by the folks behind my favourite game from 2020.

Would not put it past Druckmann to come up with divisive ideas just to generate controversy. I don't have a problem with that as long as the game is good enough to match the hype. If all he has at the end of the day is a mediocre game with woke ideals then he will have failed completely.

Lol if she has more muscles than most men then most mens are the problem maybe that's why I like the design I'm 6ft 240 with abs she looks tiny to me

Asmon is usually right in his opinions. Not all the time. There was something he said in one of his videos recently I totally disagreed with him, but overall his views are often common sense kind of views.

It's not only just a female lead that can irritate gamers wanting a guy. But if it's like LOU or other games lately that have female leads, there's going to be possibility of preaching politics or like LOU games with lesbian plots. The people Sony even hires for these games (LOU, GoY and now the new Intergalactic game) often have gender/sexuality political messages. in their personal lives. So it goes hand in hand.

But who knows. Maybe GoY and Intergalactic will be ZERO preaching politics and gender/identity this or that. And they are truly just awesome plot and gameplay. We'll see.

So just cowboy bebop ? The most jarring thing from the entire trailer was the Porsche shots there’s absolutely no reason for it.

The CD bit also a out of place, I’ve got no issue with the Sony placement but trying to cater to kids thinking cds are retro eh

More than anything, I'm baffled that after all this fucking time we couldn't get ten seconds of gameplay instead of ND's lame obsession with their "brilliant" characters that all amount to pastiches of tropes from vastly better movies.

I don't play games because of characters, especially not cardboard cutout cliches. I know it's not just ND but I don't get trailers like this. And I'm a big fan of TLoU2 because the gameplay is fucking killer. Just wanna know what this actually IS.

It was such a mistake to let Hulst out of GG. What a shitshow at Sony.

I mean dude nailed it. You are making a game that appeals mostly to dudes, so appeal to what most dudes like. Imagine if Johnny Cash started making rap songs and then calling his fans racist for disliking his music.

The feminism too strong in them. I respect it. Die on the hill.

If you think about it, guy often can make some pithy comments while improvising on air. This really takes some sharp observation to do it. Impressive.
Love him or hate him, I just started listening to some of his YT videos in the background as I surf the net starting a few months ago.

I find anyone pretty skilled if they can talk about views off the cuff while also answering chat questions at the same time. There's only so much pre-planning anyone can do in those long videos as he goes on tangents with examples, and answers random chat questions all at once.

He’s right. There have been a number of people having meltdowns here over “GAF” thinking a particular way, as if GAF is an artificial bubble and the real reaction is universally positive. This is not supported by any evidence. Some are positive, some are negative. If anything, the reception here closely reflects the like/dislike ratio on YouTube, which is mixed towards a 50:50 split.

I think it's him coming up some divisive ideas but striving to transform them into executable solid good game designs. Like he's playing a mental gymnastics. I feel like this is what he wants to do as a clever and narcissistic man.

I'm not even joking. They lost me at the fast food drink cup. I now have zero interest in what they're doing with this game.

The game is the opposite of a serious LOU game.

Intergalactic is a retro sci fi game which will be full of funny bits and cozy nostalgia references.
