Something that's been lost on game developers in the last 5 years is that for most people video games are escapist fantasy. People want to be cool and badass and hot. If they want to see mid they can just look in the mirror. Naughty Dog used to understand this, their biggest franchise starred a charismatic action hero who looked like a Calvin Klein model. And he had not one but two gorgeous love interests. Nobody who played Uncharted looked like Nathan Drake in real life, they wanted to be Nathan Drake. Or they wanted to be a grizzled old badass protecting his surrogate daughter.

I promise you, nobody wants to be bald lady. Not even bald ladies. Why does Naughty Dog do this to themselves.

So I don't know how much majority of gamers actually really buy based on character matching some demographic tbh.

For all the talk of TLOU2 being "woke" I didn't find it to be, yeah there was a trans side character but they actually wrote her so well I felt sympathy for her. Ellie taking over that early was a mistake IMO but a story driven game with gay leads isn't really "woke" either it just doesn't need to be something we see all the time, gay people exist too and a good story can be told they just can't be preachy about it and I didn't find them to be in TLOU2 all that much. When we first heard of some Sci-Fi game in space, I actually wasn't thinking of 1 character, I thought it would be like a crew or something, but at the time I was watching a lot of that show The Expanse, but in my mind I didn't have any exact set of people in mind.

Yup, TLOU2 fellt like betrayal to many of ND's loyal fans who bought all their games even back in the 90s, it will have longlasting negative consequences for this new game and TLOU3, how negative? Hard to say yet, but lets timetravel to 2016 (aka uncharted4 launch) and tell ppl in 8 years new IP from ND will get nasty dislikes ratio right in their reveal trailer- no1 would believe it, myself included.

Personally don't share in all this pessimism but I guess that's because I could care less about woke this or that.

Characters and themes (woke or otherwise) are just not that important to me vs. the actual execution of those ideas. For example, on paper, there's nothing particularly special about Uncharted or The Last of Us from a thematic or overall story perspective (we have a ton of games exploring the same or similar themes), but Naughty Dog is just in a class all their own when it comes to execution. The writing, story telling, graphics, and gameplay of their games is some of the best in the industry. The idea of their production values applied to a more light hearted retro futuristic Guardians of the Galaxy / Thor Ragnarök style game staring a chick with a equalizer energy sword sounds pretty kick ass personally!

Do hate the cinematic reveals vs. actual gameplay though. Such a tease. Look forward to seeing it in action.

All jokes aside,it looks pretty in terms of the overall sci fi theme ND are going for and I think it will be fun to play with some awesome gameplay and weapons.Plus its something completely different for the team so it will interesting to see how it turns out.

BUT the whole woke/ DEI agenda thing is just constantly in your face with them.
Like others have shown in their early days they couldnt give a shit about it and some of their games sold pretty well.

Someone please tell these ND devs to stop giving their minds and arses to less than 1% of the population.its cringe and desperate.

On paper this is a wet dream, Akira and Cowboy Bebop inspired sci-fi action game led ND and Druckmann. The opening minute of the trailer seeing the Porsche ship and anime playing on a CRT could’ve hit so different if it wasn’t immediately followed by the MC shaving off her hair lmao.
