By the time this game comes out the backlash to the anti woke backlash will be in full effect. They are ironically making the same mistakes as the woke by complaining incessantly and looking for reasons to be offended.
8 years ago it was fashionable to be woke. Today it's fashionable to be anti woke. The boomerang effect may come in full circle by the time this game comes out.

It's getting to the point of complaining just for the sake of complaining about wokeness. If we just have a great game with a woman lead that's bald, all the complaining may just be a loud minority by the time the game comes out.

Some of the comments here are just flat out weird. Photoshopping the character with long hair, showing other female characters with curvy hips. When playing infamous did anyone stop to think if Cole's ass was nice enough?

Its not too late to save the game by changing the face of the character.

that is true, they could still turn this around and redesign the main character. Same actress could be used, just give her an 80s style retro afro, some makeup and a few other tweaks and it would be much better.

So what happens if this game is critically and financially successful?
Judging success is complex.

The game will make a lot of money because it's a Naughty Dog game. There's no doubt about it.

But what is Naughty Dog's mission?

I mean real mission, not some marketing/pr bullshit.

Naughty Dog is a key differentiator. Their mission is to draw people into the PlayStation eco system.

I don't see that with Intergalactic.

About the "critical success": both you and I, everyone in this forum in fact, knows that critical acclaim is worth shit in the year 2024. And it will be worth even less when Intergalactic gets released.

Why would we if we aren't homosexual?

I think GTA 6 might be the real start of the boomerang. More and more these anti-woke guys have been coming for anything and everything even over the smallest shit. Witcher 4, huge fanbase, so the anti-woke backlash to Ciri has been getting a big counter backlash on twitter of people just being sick of them whining and being outrage tourists. If they come for GTA6, it's gonna be that x100, some of them already tried after the trailer and got laughed out of the room.

Stupid posts like this where the poster thinks they can shame/bully/peer pressure people into accepting their world view are just that..... stupid. It's not going to work and we don't want this shit. ND can take this shit and shove it where the son doesn't shine. Read the room buddy.

Sony have to remove Neil Druckman as the head of Naughty Dog lest he drive the studio into the ground with his asinine decision making. You'd think coming off the controversy in TLOU2, the studio would want to reset and reconnect with their fanbase. Nope this dude is a shit stirrer that just wants the smoke and I'd hate for the talent at Naughty dog to be put at risk because of this guy. They need to bring Bruce Straley back because this shit has got to stop.
What world view. It’s a trailer with a bald woman. You people are incredibly thin skinned.

Not true. Critical acclaim does still matter. It matters less than it did in 2004, but it does still matter.

The one thing we do know is Sony and ND wants to make money with this game. And they probably maybe wanting this game to be successful enough to make it into a movie or TV show at some point.

So if they sell 10 million units in the first year at an average price of $65.......that'll be $520 million in revenue. I'm assuming this game will cost at least $300 million to make. And probably have a $50 million advertisement budget. That's a great 1st year financial success.

It's not even necessarily the look of the character for me. It's the personality as presented in the trailer. Snarky, too cool for school person that doesn't seem to have a care in the world that for some reason is in a situation where they will probably have to save the world/galaxy. Its such a played out trope and it was never a good one in the first place.

Your being facetious the game is a racing sim completely different ball game for GT to be realistic they have to have world accurate cars and brands to bring it all together seeing Porsche and adidas in a sci-fi trailer is sort of weird tbh.
Your being nitpicktocious

jk.

Seriously though it wasn't a serious post . Even if it was i don't care if there if there was advertisement in a game . it doesn't effect the quality of the game . Or the enjoyment .

People have been enjoying cable and satellite TV for decades with a ton of advertisements . Doesn't effect the quality of the shows.

if it did, no one would pay for cable .

if it was pop up ads that interrupted gameplay that would be different .

Couldn't agree more. It is way too prevalent in entertainment these days. I assume creatives think it makes their characters endearing.
I legitimately don't think people would be making such a big deal out of it she was just some kind of hardened female space marine/bounty hunter type of character. But no...we get edgy, rebellious punk snarkily drinking a....fountain drink in a spaceship. Ok.

God forbid she has an edge and personality

They still have to pay distributors: Amazon, Gamestop, Walmart, Best Buys, etc, I don’t know how much distributors cut is, but I bet you its around 20-25%

You will never see this in a Niel Cuckman game:

veno4g686dr81.jpg
Hey shit, and female protagonist looking like a woman. What year is this from?

Jokes aside, to the purple idiots defending their Cuckman overlord, this is how you write a female character. The strength of a woman is, wait for it, being a woman. There are enough dudes. Nature, balance, weird I know.

That's only for 50% of their games. The other half is sold directly from the PlayStation store.

Plus I think that retail distributors cut is 20%. So yeah, if they can manage to sell 10 million units in year one at an average price of $65....that'll be $100 million in profit (after including marketing and paying retail distributors).

This game looks good... right until you see the protagonist design and you're just like, "oh, here we go!"

The implication of that kind of character design, and what it'll bring in terms of writing, is not a good sign.

Ship design looks slick, though.

TLOU2 wasn’t meme’s for 2+ years before launch. This is a completely different beast.

It was memed months before release with the leaks (some of which were fake, trying to claim Abby was trans)

The outrage grifting crowd on YT like asmongold are no better than the woke mob they strive to counter. Everything has to be some binary stance, we can’t just discuss the game on its merits because this nonsense on both sides crowds out nuanced discussion

"You're just saying Sonic is ugly because you don't want to fuck him! He is NOT ugly!"
I'm not furry, but sometimes it almost gets to a point, I'd rather make out with a hedgehog. Totally sounds like a furry, but it's like when people joke around about which you have to do - pick one or the other. Sonic or a super ugly, fat, bald chick. My furdar almost tells me to choose Sonic. lol

It would be even more considering the game will be $70 plus special editions.

The brands don't strike me as product placement, as in for the sake of sneaking in an ad. They are very conspicuous, and in the case of the Porsche, incongruous. It's more like the way brands are used in death stranding. Well, maybe not exactly that. Maybe more like blade runner.

I'm not a big fan of the brands being present in the game, but looking at it from a Blade Runner perspective, it's a much easier pill for me to swallow. Seeing Atari, TDK, Coca-Cola etc. was cool in Blade Runner, it really grounded the Cyberpunk aesthetic, I hope they can achieve the same in Intergalactic.

Our (the anti woke) only hope is for it to sell noticeably less than Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us. It'll be more expensive to make than both of those. If it sells 80% of what those did, maybe it makes them reconsider moving forward.

- Uncharted 4 sold 16 million units after 3 years.

- TLOU sold 8 million copies after 1 year.

-TLOU sold 17 million copies after 5 years.

So if Intergalactic sells 15 million in 3 years, it's an obvious huge success to you financially right?

Again:

Naughty Dog's mission is to draw people into the PlayStation eco system.

With TLOU2 they did the exact opposite: they damaged the brand. They became a meme.
