I love Matt Smith so far.

I'm glad people liked the first episode, when I read about peoples impressions of Davies era episodes/characters, I feel a hell of a lot less negative about some of the 'bad' episodes. Even mediocre Dr Who was pretty good.

I have to say that I don't understand the hate on Katherine Tate either. Perhaps not being British, therefore not being exposed to her repetitive brand of comedy helps. I had no idea she was a comedian until after I'd watched series 4.

Martha was the only long term character that disappointed me. She never had any real impact on either the episodes she was in, or the doctor in general, other than being the rebound chick and highlighting how important Rose was.

I wonder how long the new duo will last, and who will be the new Master whenever he eventually returns. I like John Simms, but I hope they write in somebody new.

I'm not British either, but when I first saw Tate in series four I didn't like her too much. Eventually I warmed up to her because I liked her no-nonsense attitude. She was fun.

Hell yeah, Donna was a great companion. Martha was terrible- awful character, awful actor, awful story. Look at the best episodes of S3- Blink (very little of the Doctor and even less of Martha) and Human Nature/Family of Blood (Martha had little to do in this episode after the beginning). She was so bad.

I thought Martha was fine; her looks made up for her lack of acting ability.

The only companion I ever hated was S2 Rose. I don't know if it was the writing or just Billie Piper getting full of herself (or both), but I couldn't stand the way she acted.

THANK YOU. I thought no-one shared my love of that episode.
I've always thought they should meet the boy from that episode again. He was a good little sidekick. They dynamic of that family was a solid little B-story. Don't get those a lot in Who
Meanwhile, "I'm hungry" lady and the faceless people made for some creepy visuals. I also like the costume change for that episode. The colors in the one always seemed off to me though. Not sure why.

The worst was her attempted German. "Ich heisse Martha Jones" - how hard is that!? Selling someone as a super secret agent becomes that much harder when they can't do basic German.

Can't wait to kick back with a beer and a pizza and watch the new episode in HD.

Man it's almost embarrasing how much better Moffat is at telling stories then RTD(not that he didn't have good ideas). I mean seriously. This may be my favourtie episode of the show so far. Excellent execution.

Other good points :

- Lighting and camera work makes it actually look like a 21st century TV show from a serious company.

- Large amount of sets, costumes, props, and CGI that for the most part don't look stupid. Really interesting visual design work.

- Good pacing. No one scene went on too long, no gag too over stretched.

-Other people who aren't the doctor can have great ideas!

-Doctor getting mad and it's only his second episode.

-Avoided Deus Ex Machina.

-Authority figures that aren't completely irrational!

As with last week's, it feels like a different show to me.

Really, really liking it.

Im confused, that wasnt River Song then - she looked a lot different but maybe thats just me? Hmm

Episode dissapointed me, they set up an amazing Bioshock esque environment, intriguing enemies, they even had the Demon Headmaster, but the core concept just seemed like it was on its own tangent. A core concept more inline with the overall theme of the episode would have been a lot better :(

"I'm the bloody Queen, mate. Basically... I rule" Brilliant. Matt Smith was astoundingly good as the Doctor.

This series is 100 times better than RTD's era so far.

I assumed the whole point of the epsiode was to discuss
utilitarian type questions as well as impossible situations.

I'd say it's literally a differnt show. The Doctor is such a generic concept that it really is all about what the person in charge wants to do with it.

From the
crack on the side of the ship at the end
we will be back for more I'm guessing ...

Really liked it. I'm thinking this series about each episode vs the previous four in its slot, so for this one...

Better than pretty much every second episode so far, though for me Fires of Pompeii just about pips this. Great episode though. Perhaps Pompeii>Beast>Tooth>End of the World>Shakespeare.

Perhaps. Not sure about the ordering of the final two. Great episode though! Excellent work almost all over. Cute Tooth & Claw and The End of Time references too, and referencing back to the Last of the Time Lords stuff without being too heavy on it.

Next week looks great. Can't wait to see more Daleks, and very pleased to see some now traditional new-series Gold ones alongside the camo ones in the trailer!

I'm going to guess that it ties in with
the crack in space and time on Amy's bedroom wall and becomes this series arc.

Glad to see Moffat understands that companions shouldn't just stand around, help plot exposition and provide emotional attachments - they can be part of the story.

After this episode, if I ever saw Moffat on the street I may have an uncontrollable urge to embrace him and thank him for making Doctor Who awesome. I better get that checked out...

Much tighter concept and plot execution than last week's, but that was a given due to the premiere having to reintroduce everything. So far this season is shaping up to be something special. Love Churchill having a hotline to the Doctor - very Adam West Batman.

Holy shit@Moffat on Confidential: "It's just such a shame she's so weird and dumpy."
He is pretty brutally honest about everyone's looks on this show. Matt's "weird face" etc. I'm noting Confidential is trying to heavily play up Matt having a thing for his gorgeous ginger supporting actor.

Time for the tabloids to go into paparazzi blitz mode!

I'm confused on some details of this episode. Were
the Goverment forcing LizTen to keep forgetting, blackmailing her with the Crown? When did LizTen and Amy record the messages to themselves?

No,
they weren't. Whenever LizTen learnt the horrible truth she choose to forget because it was so horrifying and the only other choice was to destroy the whole ship. Thats why they recorded messages to themselves - so that they would know why the knowledge is too horrifying to uncover. That's what made it interesting - the government weren't super evil dudes. They were just doing their job, and they were reasonable when people tried to come in and stop it.

Ah, OK. Yeah, that makes good sense, dunno where I lost track.

Not seen the new episode yet bar the intro (terrific intro) - too much sunshine. Will download and watch later. But thanks to the poster who pointed out the Dr Who anime project earlier.

If this one of the greatest slices of Dr Who I've ever seen that wasn't made by the BBC.

For god sake BBC, give this guy a contract and a shit load of money! Imagine the lost classics remade as Anime! :)

Oh god no.

I'd be totally okay for new stories featuring past Doctors though.

These cannot be stated enough; it actually feels like a well produced show now. From the two episodes so far it is (in my opinion) vastly superior to the previous modern series. I think the chemistry between the Doctor and Amy is excellent too; watching the Confidential after seemed to cement that. Though I suspect Matt Smith has a thing for her :D

Can't believe I laughed at the "I Rule" line :lol

Edit: I see I was a little late on the Matt Smith thing :lol

Thats my problem with it, initially the atmosphere was set up to give a pretty creepy Bioshock feel with secret societys and the like, then it seemed like they just went on a crazy tangeant and the secret society stuff and atmosphere was lost and was replaced by the 'impossible sitauation'.

I just didnt dig how they sort of went on a tangeant - I must admit I loved most of it, but left feeling a bit cheated. :(

how many episodes have you seen so far? I'd say that you should at least watch:

The Doctor's Daughter
Silence in the Library & Forrest of the Damned
Midnight
Turn Left
and the final two episodes (which are ridiculous and not that good, but it does end the series)

for the final specials, I didn't think the next doctor was that good or really mattered if you wanted to understand the greater story. Planet of the Dead only teases something at the end. Waters of Mars and End of Time are ones you need to watch.
I am on the Poison Sky (ep 5).. guess I'll just keep at it since a number of the ones you mention are in the latter half. I watched some of the End of Time on BBCA when I was home for Christmas but I'll watch it all again.

Well, the way I see it is the viewer is left with the question of 'Is the supression/police state of the people justified' The atmosphere wasn't completely lost, and the secret society was there (it was the Queen's servants)

Learning the truth about something isn't going on a tangent, it just seems the truth in question wasn't the truth you were hoping for.

I actually liked that a bit more than last weeks. I felt last week it had too many things going on and it suffered for it. This was a more focused story, with a clear thread running through it. I also liked that it wasn't all gung-ho (although there was still plenty of that) and we had some proper converstation in there, like Amy and the Doctor on the bench at the start.

Thought the Liz ten character was pretty good, she certainly looked the part, especially with the mask and hood on. Very cool character design there.

Sure it's not a perfect episode, the smilers didn't really ever present as a "threat", but I enjoyed it a lot. Plus it had the demon headmaster there, which kind of takes me back to my late school days :D

One of the better episodes of Who in the last five years, but I suspect we've got far better on the way.

Good episode, love Matt Smith as the Doctor and everything about the show was generally brilliant.

I do think people are exaggerating how much better it is than RTD series', though.

It's all good, I don't think I've seen an episode I didn't like. Then again, I watched them all on DVD, not week-to-week on TV, so if an episode wasn't great I didn't have a week to think about it and examine every plot point, I was just off to the next episode for more Doctor Who fun.

I'm not mad about
Daleks being back though
. Were they in series 4 at all? I felt like they were over-exposed in RTD era and could probably use more time off before being brought into the Moffat era.

Am I the only one who doesn't watch the trailers for the next week's episode? I hate when shows do that.

Agreed! You and Subliminal hit it on the head.

I still feel personally a bit down about that though :( - and maybe thats why I cant help but see it in such a negative light. Ill go sit in my corner :lol
