Doctor Who News Page said:
Final figures for The Eleventh Hour have today been published by BARB and give Matt Smith's debut story an final rating of 10.08 million viewers.

This total is over two million higher than the initial overnight figure of 8 million which implies a large number of viewers time shifted the programme by recording it and watching it later in the week.

On BBC One the story had 9.59 million watching, enough to make the story the second most watched on the channel for the week and the fourth most watched on all British television. However an additional 494,000 people watched the simulcast on BBC HD, giving the story a total audience 10.08 million and making it the third most watched overall. It was only beaten by two episodes of Coronation Street.

The Eleventh Hour has the eighth highest rating since the series returned in 2005. If the HD figure is included it is the first episode in the programme's history to be the third most watched of the week. Only twelve out of 757 episodes have ever made the top five.

The Episode has also spent most of the week in the top ten list of iPlayer requests, with nearly a million downloads so far.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

edit: ARGH, NINJA'D

Hooray for 10mil, lets celebrate with more Karen....

It's weird how Moffat called her "Wee and dumpy" in the Confidential for this last episode, given how she's now become kind of a sex symbol.

I did a double take when I heard him say that.

I've only watched three episodes of the Ninth Doctor.

I'm planning on watching the eleventh doctor on BBC America. Is it an okay idea to pretty much start here?

By the way, I love how much more serious confidential is this season so far. It's still got the (imo dumb) pop music montages, but it seems like there's a lot more time dedicated to serious exposition.

This is pretty much a brand new take on the story, so you are not missing much by skipping ahead. However, Moffat will be bringing back some characters he introduced in the episodes he wrote for the Ninth/Tenth Doc's, so you could check those episodes out. Those ep's are pretty much stand alone episodes form he others too, so wont ruin any story arc from Nine/Ten by viewing them out of order

His episodes:

* "The Empty Child" / "The Doctor Dances" (2005)
* "The Girl in the Fireplace" (2006)
* "Blink" (2007)
* "Silence in the Library" / "Forest of the Dead" (2008)

If you just want to watch one, then WATCH BLINK.

Yep. Although I'd recommend watching the 10th Doctor two-parter 'Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead' at some point, as it's basically a prequel to this new take on Doctor Who.

Hey does anyone have any idea which episode this is:
It was set during the Donna era (but she was barely in the episode) - The Dr went on like a shuttlecraft journey with a bunch of people, and then one of the people was infected and repeated EVERYTHING the other people said. I dont want to say much more in case I spoil someone but -

Does anyone remember and know the name of this episode?

That would be Midnight.

Edit: You win this round, Napoleonthechimp.

Indeed. One of my favourite episodes, that.

Well he wasn't saying she was wee and dumpy, he was saying that's how she looked on her taped audition and later corrected his assumption once he saw her in person.

Best episode of series four, by far.

P.S. Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead is overrated. So is Blink, though at least that one has a semblance of originality and is actually entertaining to watch.

So Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead isn't original? :lol :lol :lol

I disagree, sir.

I just watched that for the first time yesterday (trying to catch up to the new who), and it is without a doubt my favorite who episodes so far.

It really isn't. Almost all of its ideas are salvaged from previous Moffat episodes, and its resolution reeks of cop/out on the level of an RTD episode.

It stinks!

New Dalek design revealed in Radio Times. Looks like the "restoration of the daleks" mentioned in the trailer will involve some redesigns:

First thing in the new series that I can honestly say I'm not a fan of. I don't dislike it, but I much prefer the bulker, harder edges of the ones we've had for the past five years. Hopefully that design isn't done away with completely.

EDIT: Another, better pic. http://www.radiotimes.com/content/features/galleries/doctor-who-daleks/06/mainImage.jpg

Not sure if this one makes me feel better or worse about them. Hmm. Maybe I'll feel different once I see them on screen.

So last night, as part of their US press tour, BBC America did an event at the Paley Center in NYC. Aired The Eleventh Hour, then a half hour panel/Q&A with Steven Moffat, Matt Smith, and Karen Gillan, and then a little reception.

I have to go through and actually type up my notes, but:

- Steven Moffat is extremely quick on his feet and very funny.
- Karen is surprisingly tall, and also seems a bit shy.
- Matt seems very gracious and thankful to have the part ("the best role for any man on british television"), and seems to be having a great time.
- Most of the questions from the audience were for Steven.
- When asked if they ever wanted to shoot an episode in NYC, Matt and Karen both gave a resounding yes, while Steven rolled his eyes and pointed out that they'd just end up in front of a green screen if they did.
- One woman in the audience admitted that she knew nothing of the show and asked the panel to explain a bit of the background of the show. Steven's response was great, though - that you didn't need anything beyond that first episode of the season, because the actual series started about the same way.
- They shot this season out of order, and the first two were with Alex Kingston, who both the cast members said was an absolute pleasure to work with.
- When asked if "Geronimo!" being the catchphrase had anything to do with Coupling, Steven had to think about it for a second, and then looked tremendously embarassed and said no. He also swore it wasn't a catchphrase, he just wrote it in once and now Matt won't stop saying it.
- There was a question about the Neil Gaiman episode, but Moffat wouldn't say a word about it.
- Matt is hoping to stick with the role for "a long time".

Murray Gold was actually sitting just behind us in the audience, and Matt specifically pointed him out because everyone on the cast seems to love the new score.

There was a reception afterwords, and the cast actually stuck around for it. My wife got all three of them to sign the most recent issue of DWM. Matt's handler tried to get him out for a solid 15 minutes but he kept stopping for photos and autographs and everything.

So, yeah:

Awesome night.

If anyone is in NYC, they're doing another event tonight at Apple Store SoHo at 6PM. Get there early, because I can only imagine what the line will be like.

Good stuff!

Dalek redesign is making sense, as I think I remember Smith commenting in an interview saying they had to be changed to match his height.

Made an agreement with another GAF member, refused to honor it because he was broke, but then had no problem continuing to buy video games.
This last episode had some much story to offer! we needed to be a 2 parter!

also, the new sonic screwdriver gives readings numbers or something?

Two more things I remembered on the way in:

- Someone asked what they used for the fish custard scene. Matt confirmed it was in fact fish fingers and custard, and they had to do about 12 takes of it (for the various angles).
- Matt also revealed that whatever the over-arching bad guy is for this season was in the first episode, and that we just "have to find it". My personal guess is that
it has something to do with the overly long shot of the oscilloscope in the TARDIS.

From the front the new Daleks don't look too bad; from a lower angle, like one of the RT pics, they look strange. Regarding The Beast Below, I felt it was a story that would have benefited from the old format of four episodes. It just seemed too rushed in the end. I enjoyed it overall, though.

I remember somewhere, might've been the confidential, saying they were coconut cakes made to look like fish fingers.

Thing is, I can actually imagine fish fingers and custard working well together.

ok seriously does he use the peace sign in the show? I don't know why but the pictures of him doing it annoy the fuck out of me.

Furret said:
Churchill used it constantly, it's not their fault you didn't know that.

Maybe he's referring to him doing it in the candid publicity shot above the promo shot. It's not his fault that you didn't know that. :lol

They're both publicity shots, he's doing it for the same reason in both.

Hmm. I thought that first one was a shot from the NY premiere of the 11th Hour. My mistake.

You are correct. That's not an official BBC publicity photo, that's from the red carpet that was in the lobby of the Paley Center.

Then again: during the panel, he said "yeah man" a lot. Maybe he's just naturally a peace-sign thrower.

Not that Karen may be much better. When they were asked what historical event they would want to go back and do as an episode, she said "Woodstock".

maharg said:
A Woodstock episode could be really awesome. Or really terrible. Hard to say which way it would swing.

They could get Ang Lee to direct it........ :p

Glastonbury would be better suited considering its in the UK. They're actually filmed a Stonehenge scene for this series:

Seeing as they're some 'name' writers writing some episodes, i would like it if they got some British film directors to guest direct some episodes. Stephen Poliakoff, Stephen Frears or Danny Boyle could do some interesting work there. Though the BBC budget probably wont allow it.

Remember when they asked J.K. Rowling to do it but she said she was too busy? I wonder if Moffat would have a better chance at convincing her.

BBC synopsis for episode 5:

Doctor Who – Flesh And Stone Ep 5/13

There's no way back, no way up and no way out. Trapped among an army of Weeping Angels, the Doctor and his friends must try to escape through the wreckage of a crashed space liner, in the fifth epsiode of Doctor Who, written by Steven Moffat.

Meanwhile, in the forest vault, the Doctor's companion, Amy Pond, finds herself facing an even more deadly attack.
