I'm sorry. But this whole Bernie thing is showing despite how much fun we had attacking the tea party for their stupidity and out of touchness with the nation the left is vulnerable to the same shit.
I don't see much difference between Sanders demand for single payer and free college and the tea party thinking they were going to win the shutdown and force Democrats to vote for obamacare to be repealed.
That and the common belief that the majority of Americans believe in the same things they do. Never mind the unyielding apocalypticism.
I agree Bernie is more right than the tea party. But polically I don't see much difference.
Idunno, my main concern with backing Hillary as the safe choice is that we're seriously underestimating how much this election is about reducing corporate influence, getting money out of politics and disrupting "politics as usual." I think there's genuine reason to be concerned about the fact that Hillary has very little appeal on any of those issues. While conventional wisdom tells us she's a safe bet, conventional wisdom also told us that Trump was a joke candidate. Now, seven months later, I think it's crystallizing that the main thrust of Trump's support isn't his racism, but the fact that he's a self-funded non-politician who is (in theory) beholden to no one. If we fail to recognize what this election is about, we risk the presidency and supreme court for a long time. This election isn't about the same things that got Obama elected. It's about reclaiming a democracy that people feel has been failing to represent their interests. Hillary will be swimming upstream over her ties to wall street and being a "professional politician" from now until election day. I'll support the democratic ticket regardless, but saying Hillary is the safe choice seems like we're trying to apply '08/'12 logic to 2016, which has shown to be markedly different.
