see how you knew who i was talking about?
Lol. Fareed is an award winning journalist. Rachel Maddow is also an award winning journalist, but spends most of her energy on punditry. And O'Donnell is just another parasite feeding off of people's desire for delicious drama and outrage.

Maddow would be better if she had a weekly show like Fareed instead of a nightly show.* Chris Hayes was better back when he had a weekly show, too (not that I watched a ton of it, but I remember it being pretty good the the times I saw it).

*He just does a Sunday show, right?

Chuck Todd on the Today Show brought up how there us almost no outrage from Republicans about what Clinton said yesterday. Was a nice moment.

Republicans have it simple. Keep your mouth shut, don't associate with him, and if you are cornered to give an answer just say "I think the American people are sick of the name calling." Rinse and repeat until November.

Think the GOP as an organization has written trump off? I mean interally

The silence is deafening. It's clear that there's a collective "ugh dude just shut up and don't lose too badly" capitulation that they've rationalized but don't have a means of expressing in the open, much less enforcing it on the bucking bronco that is Trump's campaign.

Trump should have stuck with the Russians.

GAF save me...

In a group of friends, they started talking about the Alt Right and I mentioned how as a Muslim American, it sucks how they are in the public sphere.

They pressed me as to why and I talked about the conspiracy shit and dog whistle racism.

Then they accused me of reducing them to racists and conspirists...

So I said, that's fine, tell me what policies you are okay with.

After talking about how Obama and Hillary are just as bad as Bush and Cheney for a while, which we went back and forth on that for a while...

Pushing and pushing they finally laid out specific policies.

They are against more Syrian children coming to the US....(not scary Syrian children!)

They are okay with Trump's tax policy's. When I pressed for why, they said I underestimated how wealthy they were (as if that matters?) They said they had family incomes of six figures (which is so stupid, that's well off but the benefits of a Trump tax policy go to people making way more money than that) And really the entire thing was a "fuck you, I've got mine".

This election is ruining my friendships...

Written off his chances of winning the election? 110%
The desperate calculus they're stuck doing now is figuring out which downticket races want to embrace him and which ones want to repudiate him

Oh yeah, for sure. The GOP organization is just the academic (lol) wing of the party that tried to push neoconservatism as the defining belief of the party's base. Trump proves that the base actually doesn't care about any of that, they just want white nationalism. The GOP organization is now hung out to dry since they don't really have a party that likes them, and the only reason they still exist at all is because they hold the positions at the top and therefore they at least have the public eye.

Honestly, people (including me) have talked a lot about what happens to the Trump wing when they get booted from the GOP, but I do think there's a decent chance (certainly non-zero) that it's actually the GOP establishment that gets sent adrift. The Trump wing is going to blame them for Trump's loss (Hannity's been working that angle for weeks now, and Breitbart will too once the race is done), and they'll burn it all down as best they can.

Oh, Jeff Weaver, I know you're trying to help Hillary with this interview on CNN, but you are not doing a very good job.

Shouldn't Jeff Weaver be spending his time staffing up after the mass exodus from Our Revolution?

Also the Christie cast off hire looks to be official.

@alivitali
Sources tell @KellyO that Trump campaign has brought on board GOP operative and fired Christie aide Bill Stepien as Nat'l Field Director.

Anybody truly important has, yeah. The dude is done and it's all about damage control. Hell, my hot conspiracy theory is I bet Priebus is being forced by party elites to play damage control. Deal with him until November, do your best and then go enjoy your golden parachute.

My main question is what do McCain types do after he wins his primary? Does he disavow or just ride it out?

On top of that, Maddow is hugely biased towards the left and its obvious. Fareed is very much stays out of the partisan BS and is very very fact/detail oriented and not driven by ideology

Our conversation just ended with

"to whom do I owe anything"

and

"taxation is theft"

One of these people makes 20k a year and thinks the federal government is taking 30% of his money.

Short for cuckold, which used to just mean a guy who was cheated on. Now means conservative who's been betrayed by politicians. Moreso, one who still believe in those politicians still.

It's the alt-right version of "sheeple."

I would honestly just write off talking politics if you want to remain friends. You've uncovered a fundamental difference in a priori assumptions and world view that's probably not bridgeable.

It's actually worse than that. It comes out of the genre of porn, which apparently tends to be white guys who seek out black men to have sex with their wives. So there's a heavy connotation of what they would call white genocide/race treason/mongrelization as well.

They'll probably continue doing what they've been doing (say they support the nominee and then proceed to disagree with every one of his policies). They'll still need Trump supporters to vote for them if they want to hold on to their seats so they can't completely sever all connections (except in deep blue states like IL).

Wait, are you saying Maddow -- a well known liberal -- is biased toward the left and makes it obvious? Are you suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure?

You're right, it's all that too.

It really is a hideous term.

It's depressing watching people go over the edge with this stuff. I personally know at least 4 guys who got dragged down into super hardcore no compromise conservatism. Every one of them ended up divorced within a few years.

Wrong, it's a legitimate lifestyle choice where you watch your significant other get railed by another human being!

Internally, yes. I think once we hit September, and if the Clinton lead holds or widens you might even see it be more public. You already have some Republicans saying to abandon Trump to focus on the House and Senate. I think that number will just increase unless Trump narrows the gap in polling.

Yeah kind of weird Paul Ryan the number one GOP dude is not campaiging for their "choice".

It does feel like 3 parties right now. Trump, the GOP, and Dems. Started to feel like that when big ticket Reps refused to show up at the RNC.

You're probably right. Every so often I just try to convince myself McCain used to have more integrity and pride than to pander to Trump, especially if he might lose. Up, Simba and all of that.

Then he always disappoints.

not sure what your trying to say. I prefer my news and information un-biased and from a neutral standpoint instead of someone just trying to score points for "their team"

The best part about Fareed's "neutrality" (although you could certainly argue his biases on foreign policy), is out of Fareed and Rachel, only one of them has called Trump a "bullshit artist" on live television.

I'm saying Maddow's job is not to report the news. Why does this need to be explained to you?

Yeah, there's a distinct format difference between Maddow's show and Zakaria's. One is journalism, one is commentary. But Maddow also does very good journalism, like her book on the perpetual war, and Zakaria is pretty obviously a raging globalist neolib if you have ever seen him debate. Hell, he even offers a segment on commentary every episode where he calls Trump a bigot or the hard right a bunch of whiners.

This too. But Fareed called Trump a bullshit artist while in an interview, not on his television program.

McCain is what happens when your self-entitlement makes you feel really bitter and all principles are swept away in favor of getting a position.

Maddow doesn't just spew her opinions. Her stuff is fact based, and she lays out those facts at the beginning of every show before letting you know her opinions.

That's not what he's saying. Rachel is pleasantly fact oriented, but the whole purpose of her program is to throw as many darts at the right (or Bernie) as she can. It's good TV, but it's just point scoring for liberals. Rachel accuses Trump of having been a Breitbart reader this whole time; Fareed hosts an entire hour explaining the origins of Islamic State.

Reminder that Jeffrey Toobin is top-tier analyst and CNN contributor. (also because he does great writing for the New Yorker)
