I also don't really get it, outside of socialism being "for the people" and anti-trade also being "for the people" in a crude, populist way

I find it maddening though. Trade has not made the US poorer. The wealth is all still here. This is a perfect chance to point out that we could be taxing and redistributing wealth more aggressively and instead its being pissed away on the same bullshit "we'll get the jobs back!"

It's because of a few things. One, offshoring helps undermine union power in developed nations. Two, worries about the exploitation of the workers in the countries where the jobs are being moved to. Three, the fact that it is greatly beneficial to private corporations, who are inherently seen as the enemy since the workers do not control the means of production. Four, for those who are hardcore anti-market, well, it's just making more markets.

I think what it largely boils down to is that following the collapse of the USSR the international socialist project died and socialists were forced to turn to the one thing they felt they could defend, which was home-based labor movements. In essence, they are fighting for social democracy more than international socialism, which traditionally has a strong home grown labor movement.

Idiots, saying pussy isn't the fucking issue

I think that's what Trump actually thought the problem was initially which is why the locker room shit was the first response. Of course a lot of guys have used the word before.

Edit: Why the hell did I just get a message on my phone about that breitbart video? Man this is going to get ugly tonight

Donald Trump spiraling down is the canary signalling a Dem wave. There is now strong evidence for this. Prepare for complete control of the whole government. Republicans will be left out for the buzzards to pick clean.

I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, but damn, this would be poetic justice for all of their obstructionism the past 8 years.

It shows how these individuals are truly deplorable. They see absolutely nothing wrong with sexual assault. These are the people who try to legitimize it by saying that the victim asked for it.

trump is the fucking culmination of all these deplorable beliefs. What an utter disgusting and irredeemable creature that monster is.

Sadly unless this election weakens the republicans significantly in the next few years or os they may still be able to win the midterm election in 2018.

Jesus the obliviousness of why this is serious from Trump supporters. We aint mad because he said pussy, morons.

They know that they just like to lull themselves into a false sense of reality.

This is why Trump will never be better. Partly because this is just who he is, but his supporters don't demand that he be better. In fact they revel in this shit.

Let's not open the champagne too early. Remember when a right wing nut killed a PM in the UK and a populist mob still voted for pushing the national self destruct button.

But Kellyanne always wants to speak. Where was she?

She canceled all her appearances and had to tweet out a photo of her with Trump to stop all the speculation that she was abandoning him.

There's not really anything in common with this election and Brexit.

Corey got a haircut. He looks hotter when he is flustered like this. I have a strange attraction to him lol. It's probably because I dated two Republicans before that kinda resemble him.

lol Corey going after Erin Burnett's friend

The CNN commentators are fucking done with people defending sexual assault. You can tell they want to try and maintain themselves, but this is too much

MP. Jo cox was an Member of Parliament. PM is prime minister. But yes, cautious optimism is required after everything that's happened this year.

I don't think socialism necessarily has any ties to protectionism, though of course trying to centrally plan is harder when you have interference from exogenous forces (like other economies).

I think the left would be far more comfortable with free trade if Clinton had, for example, promised guaranteed national incomes to those affected by trade or something like that. Clinton's problem has always been that she doesn't go that far (because "that far" is wildly unpopular).

I think trade is still popular overall. Just that the bases are loud.

I mean, they teach comparative advantage and David Ricardo on day 1 of economics in any class.

What a lot of people don't understand is that free trade won. Free trade has been the norm since the end of the second world war. Compared to what came before most taxes/duties/levies/tariffs are not to protect domestic business, but to pay for the cost of doing business in the country.

When people look at these trade deals and scoff it isn't because of free trade, it's all the crazy ride along shit that goes into them that does stifle competition and allow what is seen as undue influence by multinational corporations regarding various points of sovereign interest.

Unfortunately this separation has never really caught on and we get people rallying against free trade when free trade is quite possibly one of the greatest factors to a peaceful and stable planet.

Brexit vote was close. This one isn't going to be. The question now is how big of a win this is going to be and whether the Democrats take over both houses of Congress.

I like Garland and while I'd love for Obama to have a legacy of 3 SC Justices, I'd rather Hilary nominate someone whose around 50 years old.

A lot is contingent upon which party takes the House though. If Democrats take back the whole of Congress then I can buy the argument that there's only so much political capital to go around for the next 2 years and it would be best to remove the issue during this November and December and clear the way for Hillary to focus on a few major pieces of legislation. If Democrats only retake the Senate then Hillary needs to give the progressive wing a big victory early on to buy some goodwill.

Trump is winning and nominating Martin Shkreli. Get used to it.

Just change Megadeth to Hillary and drop that dudes face on to Vic.
Like the album but, it's got a lot of right wing sentiment lyrically
I'm on mobile so sorry of this is yuge
Got the album recently. I like it too; didn't even notice the right wing sentiment in the lyrics, but it's not like that detracts from the quality of the songs for me.

But man, Dave Mustaine's vocal range is just gone compared to the late 80s and early 90s stuff. It's a real shame, even if it overall works here.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Generally, I brush off the "This is the beginning of the end of the (insert party name here) party" stuff, but I genuinely think the republicans solidifying behind racism and sexism will signal the end of their party as we know it within 2 decades. That stuff is not going over well with younger age groups right now, and I think it is finally going to stick.

Write an article about it.

It's a well documented case, and the ousted moderate faction has an active presence online. The church itself is ignoring the charter, for now, dismissing the elders, and bringing in a pastor from Georgia -- meanwhile the pastor who helped begin this process left to Texas. The new denomination is using loaded, conservative political terms, which isn't terribly surprising given the origins of the movement.

I've long since left the church, partly because of the extremist evangelical theology percolating through the youth leaders. The further the process went on, the more you would see extremist views expressing that non-Christians, anywhere, at any time, were explicitly condemned to hell. Bleh.

Acceptance of non-celibate LBGTQ in leadership was officially a step too far for the church but things have been brewing for a long time. I suppose there's an article to be made about how a outwardly dynamic and aspirational nu-Christian scene of the 90s veered off sharply into culture wars and institutional hatred after 9/11. As an aside, the local Christian Rock station reverted to running fundamentalist sermons and bizarre anti-environmental screeds.

I think it is key for Clinton to drown out trump's populist rhetoric. She accomplished this successfully in the first debate by baiting him into showing his true repugnant and idiotic side.

The problem is that even though he sounded completely unprepared during the first 20 minutes of the last debate a lot of commentators gave him the advantage until it started to unravel. So we must prepare for the possibility of him completely sticking to talking points.

I hope all this rumor-mongering about there being worse stuff on tape coming comes to fruition. Bury him. Let this election be a wipeout.

There's definitely more. People have been saying this since Friday. It's not going to come out now though. We'll see how tonight goes and see what the fallout is on Monday. I can see something else being put out late next week.

Claire McCaskill's response to "private and public" positions and "open borders" was pitch perfect. Why haven't they distributed these talking points to people?

Clinton camp needs to come up with a better response to this wikileaks thing than the ones I've seen so far.

Lol; I assume you also saw Claire McCaskill's too? I thought it was a good explanation and putting stuff into context.

This whole thing will take another decade to shake out. At some point in the future maybe we will be able to look back at this election as the trigger for huge changes in the party.

If the Dems do sweep the whole government, I hope they act boldly. It'll probably only last for two years and perhaps people will like a government capable of action anyway.

What I'm worried about is Clinton basically dropping the ball with the Trump tape issue during the debate since the question's apparently right at the start and she has no idea how Trump will react, especially when she had the most trouble at the beginning of the last debate.

The week of October 24th needs to be a blitzreig.

Like, it's even bigger than Trump himself. This fascistic, nativist white nationalism strain on the big stages needs to be dealt a blow that can't be recovered from for decades minimum. It's intolerable.

Don't think she's worried about how he reacts. She either expects him to go off or he just says sorry and moves on again.

She's not the one on defense here. He is.
