I don't mind Perez, although I wish he had campaign experience, but I am just as unconvinced that he will win Latinos for the Democrats as I was that Rubio or Cruz would win Latinos for the GOP.

I don't disagree regarding the "auto-win Latinos" argument being a bit flawed, but who have you been leaning towards for desired VP choice?

For me, Perez wouldn't even be for Latinos. It would be for Sanders' supporters, with the Latino thing being a bonus, and I think he's the sort of Democrat whose the future of the party. He's an excellent contrast to Hillary and would make a good candidate in 2024.

Look, this whole thing, true or not, reads like the same sour grapes as usual, spiced up even further by screaming and insults over the fact that there were more Clinton delegates there than Sanders delegates.

Look at the motions:

Remove the Chairman.
Recount the delegates.
Prevent the super delegates from voting.

All because they can't get over the fact that they had less delegates.

We know why the 64 were left out. It's their own fault, just the same as if they hadn't shown up.

But she fraudulently frauded! FRAUD!

It's difficult to get to the actual points of contention.

I think the risk that results could be skewed is far outweighed from the benefits of making voter registration as easy as possible to encourage and support higher turnout.

Consider a state like NY: the Dems outnumber the Republicans to the degree that if both primaries were open the Dems could easily pick the winner of both contests.

Dubs nailed it. It sounds good in theory but it could wreck the nominations in practice. In some states anyway.

I am all for auto-registration to vote in general elections though. Just leave the primaries to those who are sufficiently vested in the process to register with their party of choice a few weeks or months ahead.

KY is full of Kim Davis Democrats. I'm think that gives an edge to Bernie.
If you're making an argument on demographics, then Benchmark Politics has already predicted +4 for Clinton based entirely on a demographic model.

Kentucky is filled with a lot of successful workers for whom the economy has been good to. They're not disgruntled.

Goddammit, why do white people always manage to disappoint me? I always thought it was just the south...

For what it's worth, Romney did substantially better with white voters. If his share of the white vote stays below 60%, Trump has lost.

Is registering for a party really so hard that requiring people to so if prior to the primary is such a hurdle? I just don't understand this argument against closed primaries.

It's an annoying hurdle, and local parties are often shit. When I registered as a Democrat, the party somehow didn't file my switch. I had to call multiple times to follow up. I know a Republican guy who dealt with the same problem. Deadlines are also unfortunate and not at all transparent, and many voters don't realize that a primary is closed until far too late.

The only thing I would add is that voice votes are not loudness competitions. To pass their motion to suspend normal order they needed a 2/3rds majority. Sanders supporters were slightly less than half. If one half of the room shouts louder than the other half, it doesn't make that half worth two-thirds. The chair is within her rights to recognize that.

I think NY definitely needs to change that October deadline though. It made sense given the laws surrounding voter rolls when the contest was in February (they can't be touched from October through the end of the year), but it's a bit much now that it's out in April. They really need to stop moving this shit around is what I'm saying.

And what you can't tell from a video, that the chairperson *would* have been able to tell, is how concentrated the loud yelling may have been. Say you have one really loud corner that is clearly not a majority of the people. You aren't going to be able to tell that from periscope, but in the room it would be relatively easy to ascertain.

Unless people have better evidence than 'the Sanders supporters yell really loud' to prove that he had more support there... I'm just rolling my eyes at it even if there's something to it. Sorry.

They counted. There were more Clinton delegates. Forcing multiple losing roll call votes for recounts and removing people that the Sanders supporters didn't like would be akin to Ted Cruz and his Green Eggs and Ham schtick.

I'm really surprised he does better with Hispanic voters than black voters. That 28% is perplexing.

Well it's the second poll (after a previous Morning Consult poll last week, according to the crosstabs posted on Twitter) with Trump in the 28% Latino vote.

The Gravis poll (Latinos 55-45 in favor of Trump) was clearly BS.

Per @DannyEFreeman, Sanders held press avail while in Puerto Rico. When asked about NV tension/chaos, Sanders walked away during middle of Q

lmao this post is ludicrous

If Kim Davis is a Democrat, I highly doubt she would vote for the Jewish socialist over the Christian moderate. The only bigots Bernie succeeds with are disgruntled, irreligious workers or students who are more sexist than they are anti-Semitic.

I think the idea is, those "Democrats" are voting against Hillary, not for Sanders. We saw it happen in WV, where a third of Sanders' voters wouldn't vote for Sanders in the general.

I spat out my coffee

Oh, you mean this one?

There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me.
The sign was painted, said 'Private Property.'
But on the backside, it didn't say nothing.
This land was made for you and me.

Would that I could say I wrote it, haha. That's just one of the verses from Woody Guthrie's folk classic "This Land" it's just a verse you've probably never heard because it was taken out. I think it was just a little too socialismy for the time. It's timely now, what with Trump's wall.

Wow, dude has no fucking spine. All you have to do is say "I condemn and acts of violence or threats of violence and those who acted like that don't represent what this campaign is about."

Simple, Bernie I'm free right now, if you need someone to write your responses I'm game.

Hillary Clinton is the original devil for the Conservative movement. You can bet your ass they'd sooner vote for the socialist jew than her.

Also Davis is technically a Democrat, but that goes into the party shift and things of that nature. It's why you saw a bunch of Bernie supporters in West Virginia say they'd vote for Trump over him in a hypothetical general election matchup.

Is he fucking serious with that weak-ass shit? Just end it Bernie, end it before you ruin your entire reputation.

Damn, if this election is only +2 Hillary, we aren't getting the House.

I doubt it's going to be that close once GE starts really ramping up and we head into the debates. House was a pipe dream to begin with

I'm thinking we're gonna see a +6 GE for Clinton, Senate flips, House stays Red but with an increase in blue seats

I definitely think it could be better. Valid voters getting dropped or mis-registered is a serious problem, as are opaque deadlines. But I don't think those are really arguments against the idea of a closed primary, just against our poorly run ones. Although, if it is impossible to run a closed primary without impacting serious numbers of voters like that, then yeah, I'd support switching to open ones. I'm just not convinced that the case.

I'd love to be wrong, but based on Indiana results and Bernie consistently outperforming polls in mostly-white states, I'd expect Bernie to win both tonight.

OR: Bernie +6
KY: Bernie +2

I still firmly believe you should be able to show up, register for a party, and vote on that day.

You have to register as a D to vote in the D primary, but you can register on election day. To me this will always be the most fair way.

You could argue that this opens the system up to abuse, but honestly, this kind of strategic cross-over stuff rarely happens, and the upside (more voter engagement, hey more D registration, etc) outweighs it.

That would mean the republican primary in NY has no meaning because dems would and could choose all sides.

It's the same reason why Republicans have a closed primary in California.

You are applying GE voting to primary voting.

If this is what happens hes even more fucked after tonight than going into it. But at this point nobody gives a shit about what the math actually says all that matters is "the narrative". It doesn't even matter tonight, he could lose both states, he could lose California, hes not going to drop out. He's supporting what is going on right now 100% by refusing to even acknowledge it.

Democrats so massively outnumber republcians in NY even if only a small percentage moved off because the democratic side is sewn up, could drasticly change the republican primary.

Yup. The number of Dems in NY is obscene. We could literally pick both candidates in all the state-wide races if the primaries were open. Out of like 11 million registered voters Dems make up just over half.

There aren't enough Republicans in the state. Democrats could just vote for the Republican candidate and completely override whatever the actual Republicans wanted.

Democrats so massively outnumber republcians, even a small percentage moving off because the democratic on is seen up could drasticly chance the republican primary.

But what if you just held the primaries on the same day? And you had to register for the party.

OP should probably be changed to reflect Nevada. We could have saved the world, but for Nevada. Fie upon the 52.6 that voted for the establishment on that fateful day!
