California over North Carolina and Arizona and Colorado and Nevada, solid strategy.

This story makes me smile. Obama is pretty tall isn't he?

"While off duty, Officer Thompson traversed two freeway dividers and endured first- and second-degree burns while pulling an unconscious man to safety from a car moments before it became engulfed in flames. "

I could see a world where Trump wins VA, I guess.

Is Michigan (which has Detroit and Flint and Dearborn) really going to vote for Trump after their Republican governor just poisoned a bunch of poor black children?

In what world does this happen?

I want it to be true so badly, but I can't conceive of the moon logic that would lead him to thinking he can win CA or MN. California has a huge hispanic population, and Minnesota's conservative base is farmers, not disenfranchised industrial laborers. Minnesota's not too concerned about "the jerbs"

It's just part of his political bluster.

"I'm going to win. I'm going to win in California. New York? They love me. They love me. I'm going to win in New York. I'll beat Crooked Clinton, because, and I mean this, I can compete in every state. In every state."

The news cycle will go into hyperdrive, he'll pick up loads of attention, the red meat crowd will love it, and meanwhile all his resources will be going to the swing states.

It's Crooked Hillary.

Also he thinks he can win New York.

You're giving him way too much credit

Trump didn't know what "ground game" was and still won the GOP nomination, which speaks more to the GOP primary electorate and then process than Trump's own political brilliance.

Alternately, the GOP aggressively selected for political stupidity.

Then Fiorina or Carson would have been easy winners. Trump wasn't even the craziest crazy in that race.

He was the most American crazy though. I think it's pretty obvious why Trump won the nomination and it has nothing to do with him being politically literate in even the most basic way. There is no evidence at all that Trump understands the most basic questions about running a political campaign, and lots of evidence that he doesn't, so I think assuming that he does is kind of inattentive.

It's not like he will be investing in swing states in secret. Clinton and the democrats will know where the GOP and Trump are investing their money regardless of what they say on tv.

Wasn't there a story after Iowa that said the Dems had actually registered more Democrats than the GOP had Republicans despite the higher GOP primary turnout? I think that trend in addition to the Dems already sizable tech lead bodes very well for prospects in November.

yeah, I know. He's not trying to fool Clinton or anything, he just wants attention, he feeds off it.

If the GOP is actually going to seriously bank roll Trump

I'm still shocked Rubio endorsed Trump, guy has no fucking spine. At least Jeb had enough of his bullshit and is staying out of it, and Mitt is being the official mouthpiece of the establishment in bashing Trump.

he wasn't caught up in the politically correct notion that "the core republican base isn't racist, all these dogwhistles are coincidences we swear!! they just really care about our really well thought out economic policies" and told republicans what they wanted to hear all along - it's as simple as that

doesn't require much political literacy on his part , just bravado and of course loads of money

i don't think he even intended to play this 3d chess with republicans by being a loudmouthed racist asshole - from his perspective it's natural

Yes, Donald Trump is going to win a state heavily populated by African-Americans and DC expatriates.

I didn't say it was likely. It's just the least unlikely of that ridiculous map.

Fiorina was less crazy than Trump. Carson was more crazy and Cruz might be as well, but Trump was just a huger racist than everyone else and GOP primary voters just wanted to pick the biggest racist.

Pop growth in VA since 2010:

Obama's 2012 VA map:

435px-Virginia_presidential_election_results_2012.svg.png

It's beautiful.

And one of my favorite things about Virginia: much of the GOP base has no idea that this has been happening. We're going to see the same shock and horror on Election Night that we saw four years ago.

Yeah, those maps are beautiful.

Trump kind of has to contest VA though. Might as well give up right now if he doesn't. It's NY and CA that are truly stupid.

Really? More than Ohio or lolrida?

I think more likely than Ohio, certainly. Florida... I'm not sure. Virginia has more of white workers badly hit by post-industrialism, Florida has more old people.
