will gain confidence one day
Like I was saying earlier, hammering in the narrative that Trump is incompetent is likely something that can actually defang him. All this stuff about Flynn makes Trump look like a dope. Either he hired a (potential) traitor who lied to him, or he hired an idiot. Both work!

I'm glad that pence took a little shrapnel from this. If impeachment ever does happen we can already start building the case that Pence is no better suited for the office.

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
With the Flynn news, I have to wonder if Jill Stein is not similarly compromised.

Not only that, but you can build a case that he helped cover it up as a result of the last few days. We're at the point where if Trump goes over the Russian connection then Pence likely does as well.

She's probably just a useful idiot, but nothing would shock me at this point.

Aaaaaaaaahahaha. Oh my. My schadenfreude sensor is triggering but I'm working hard to keep myself in check because the situation of a Presidential inner circle compromised by Russia is horrifying.

Blood in the water now. Whether he sent a resignation letter vs getting canned is meaningless. Not fooling anyone with that this time. I eagerly look forward to the congressional investig--yeah no, despite this being a bigger scandal than Obama had in 8 full years. Obama would have been impeached for something like this, undoubtedly.

Beat EviLore at pool.
omg that makes it worse. Trump was going to WAIT and let the Flynn make the decision? Trump was going to "give him time" knowing that he was a national security risk?

I can't even

I see it as more Trump knew what would happen if he leaves. Hoping he can make a distraction like during the campaign but all eyes are on him now.

OMG

USTA apologizes after Nazi-era German national anthem played

Speaking after her defeat in Hawaii, German team member Andrea Petkovic, who was born in Bosnia but grew up in Germany, said the mix-up was "the worst thing that has ever happened" to her.

"I thought it was the epitome of ignorance, and I've never felt more disrespected in my whole life, let alone in Fed Cup, and I've played Fed Cup for 13 years now and it is the worst thing that has ever happened to me," Germany's top-ranked player in the competition said.

If I were to speculate on what Hillary is currently thinking, it would be word-for-word this ^

She must be fucking loving it... And hating it... And loving it.

People thinking this is bad for Trump are fooling themselves. Go look at British politics during the late 80s/first half of the 90s if you want to see how easy it is for an administration to survive controversy. Bribery, affairs, incompetence, perjury. And still it took til '97 for the Conservatives to lose their grip on power.

I mean, I'd love it if this were the turning point, but I doubt it is. :/

Scandal destroyed Bush and the GOP in 06.

Not saying it will this time though.

Also we need to remember that every election basically serves as a reset. If Trump loses 538-0 in 2020 and Democrats win 300 House seats I still don't want to read any "the Republican Party is dead!" articles. They'll be back.

Yup. The positive of elections for Democrats all the time in the US right now is that it doesn't allow time for the party in power to pick up the pieces and reestablish itself as competent.

OTOH, the negative for us at the moment is that no party can be consigned to the dustbin of history for a decade plus like what happened to both Labour and Conservatives (and Labour again seemingly).

I talked to a Trump voter today who was very unhappy with his performance so far.

I wonder what she'll think of this development.

Trump has proven himself quite immune to the taint of scandals so far - and there have been so many - and with Chaffetz being as two-faced as they come, I'm not expecting much.

Like I say, though, I'd love for me to be wrong. :)

Maybe it will die and we'll get a Labor party in its place.

Ha.

Remember when that was the fantasy?

Given the way the GOP is able to form its coalition by sheer hatred, I wonder what the parties would look like if we had a system conducive to multiple parties. Other than some vaguely center-right Kasich-style party that gets 5% of the vote I don't even know what the rest would look like. Would it just be one big "fuck brown people" party even if we had PR?

Hmmm to be honest I think the best option is for the GOP to throw Trump under the bus now, out Pence in power, replace the whole cabinet, and then do pretty much nothing for the next couple of years while pointing the finger at Obama and Trump while asking the electorate for "more time".

That is surely better than letting this train wreck play out.

Of course, Trumps best move is to do a power grab under the guise of rooting out traitors and overseas influence. If he moved swiftly and aggressively enough he could ignore legal challenges, discredit and put dissenters "under investigation", claim some sort of "state of emergency" etc

In other words, double down, and accelerate the plan using this event as a catalyst.

This is a Biden NSC guy

Jon (((Wolfsthal)))‏ @JBWolfsthal

Anyone asked to be General Flynn's replacement will likely ask KT McFarland to leave and demand Bannon be removed from NSC. Musts IMHO.

Hope he's right.

Petraeus won't ask either of them, I think. He'll be too eager to get back in from the cold.

Also, it'll make Trump look even more of a fool, so even if he did, no way it would happen.

I mean, if we had pure PR, it'd be something like this

3-5% - Hardcore Jacobin/socialist/Green type party
15-20% - Social Democratic Party
20-25% - New Democrat-ish Party
3-5% - FDP-ish type 'liberal' in the European sense for Ryan/Kasich/Rubio types
5-10% - Some type of hawkish neocon party that is home to McCain/Graham types.
15-20% - New-ish 'American First' party led by Trump
15-20% - Christian Heritage party led by Cruz, likely lost a lot of seats to Trump's party
3-5% - Hardcore straight-up white supremacist party

Joy Reid coming on for live coverage at 1am Eastern for those lucky enough to still be awake

I read that Fox was running an O'Reilly repeat when this news broke and they were just running a Tucker Carlson repeat. Have they even acknowledged this news at all?

With every day Trump's administration embarrasses itself in the exact same way everyone said would happen, it becomes increasingly difficult to blame anyone but the American voter for this colossal fuck-up.

So what are the odds of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment being invoked in our lifetimes lol?

Trump has surrounded himself with craven opportunists. If ever there was a cabinet + congress that would gladly throw him to the wolves.....

At some point she needed to unleash the inner snark demon that kept poking through, but 60+ years of suppressing it in public was too much.

Yeah. :(

They are reaping what they sowed.

And it does not make me happy to say that.
