Some sort of basic economics course for the latter if you haven't been exposed to it. Ujnder stranding why command economies crash and burn and why social democracies are perfectly ok w a capitalist framework is really important.

I missed this beauty of a post wherein kirblar conflates socialism and command economies.

Which son was the one that wanted to try and run for NY governor again?

I think it was Eric? At the time I thought the Trump name would be poison, but now I think that it wouldn't matter even if they were Trumps, they would be too stupid to win anything in NY.

It was Jr. 😂

I'm subscribed to Pod Save The People but rarely ever listen. I always thought their audience was suppose to be people who don't know the basics to issues. Like a first lesson into a subject.
Lovett or Leave It is terrible and his recent interview of Villaraigosa was like softball after softball, and he still managed to come across as a total sleazebag.
Word. Never heard of this dude but I hope California doesn't elect him. His response on working for Herbalife had me shaking my head in anger. That alone made it obvious he was a scumbag.

Trump told Macron he would be there, according to a White House official, and French and U.S. officials rushed to schedule a last-minute trip that will last about 27 hours and include dinner at an opulent restaurant in the Eiffel Tower and a visit to Napoleon Bonaparte's tomb.

I assume this is like when a family goes on a vacation and stops at a mall to make the kids (i.e., Bannon) happy.

This Zuckerberg tour of America...

Man this country is so fucked. Every new daily post just has me sweating 2020.

That's kind of bullshit. Macron is the one that explicitly invited Trump. Invited Trudeau too but he won't go (probably because Trump is going). The article makes it sound like Trump forced his way into France.

I don't think Macron and French officials expected him to go, but once he heard "military parade" the orange one couldn't resist.

No, it sounds like he said yes after Macron told him there would be a big parade. It's not saying he wasn't invited first.

It's kind of a pointlessly catty lede that WaPo should be careful about though.

This is a stupid non-story, and the type of petty shit that was leveled at Obama constantly to great annoying effect.

Why does everyone just make up their own ideas about human nature as if there isn't like three disciplines focused on different levels of it? (Referencing the capitalism thread in OT)

So what's the consensus on Best podcast to listen to?

A) No idea what you're talking about specifically today regarding this

B) You're gonna need some grade-A tranquilizers if you're nervous about Mark Zuckerberg right now

This is a stupid non-story, and the type of petty shit that was leveled at Obama constantly to great annoying effect.

Also true

The Weeds and Primary Concerns are the ones that I feel I get more out of. If I'm already reading GAF all day, I feel like I've heard the news and reactions that a lot of the other big political podcasts are giving me, just a day later.

Hey gang, did I miss any discussion on the whole Qatar leaking documents showing Saudi orgs and UAE orgs funding Al-Qaeda/ISIS? Or is that the sort of thing we already figured was going down/was about to go down, rendering discussion kinda pointless?

The article I found is from IFP news so maybe that's why?

You really think it's petty? I find it conceivable he wanted to go after hearing about the parade.

This is not a sophisticated individual.

I like Tommy, but most of his PSTW interviews are with people he worked with, so they're not terribly challenging exchanges. They're also really boring. His PTSW with Greenwald was tremendous, I thought, and it worked so well because they were coming at it from different sides. Dan, eh. I guess he's an ok interviewer, he's never really stood out to me on that front, but I don't think he's a good host (more Alyssa Mastromonaco plz).

I listened to the first episode of Lovett or Leave It and thought it was a total mess. Also only did just the first ep of Pod Save the People, and Deray came off like a complete amateur -- terrible follow-ups, actual pauses in the interview for Deray to take down notes like he was in a class (you could hear him writing during the dead air!). When he had Andy Slavitt had on and asked him to explain the difference between Medicare and Medicaid I knew this was a waste of time.
I think Lovett or Leave It has improved since the first episode, but it's mostly fluff. The latest episode was actually kind of interesting because there was a strong disagreement from one of the guests that did sound somewhat understandable.

I think what would work with PSA more is if they interview less 'big name' people and chat more with local politicians, or lesser known politicians, or nonprofits etc.

So what's the consensus on Best podcast to listen to?
Planet Money

Not so political though

Something I've taken to listening quite a bit of recently is The Brian Lehrer Show (which is a proper radio show under the WNYC umbrella as opposed to a podcast).

One podcast I appreciate a lot is Code Switch. My background is the generic WASP category (without the P), so listening to a show that focuses on PoC, the culture, and the discrimination in America is quite handy to broadening my horizon.

Also, it's hard to go wrong with a NPR podcast like On Point or 1-A. WNYC Studios podcasts, like On The Media, are often stellar too.

And, of course, if one's time is limited, The Daily, and Up First are good for a half-hour worth of the relevant news for the day.

There are no indications he accepted only because there was a parade. Chances are he accepted because it would get him away from Washington, and the celebration involves the US anyway. The article is dumb.

By far the most noteworthy drop is among working class country. 20 point drop in June. And June wasn't even that bad a month for the crazy bastard.

I don't get it. Even outside of meeting with Russians, wouldn't he have met with plenty of foreign officials over the last 7 years as a Senator?

I think at the time, the consensus was that he could exclude contact related to Senate work (since that's not really the intent of the question). He can't properly argue that his Russian contacts were Senate work though, which was the controversy.

Edit: Also, it's not political, but My Brother, My Brother, and Me is the best podcast

That's really weird, because the question absolutely isn't phrased like that. It seems the only thing you could omit would be stuff related to travel. If you can omit other things then the question should be changed.

Working Class Country +33 +13

That's his biggest drop. If I had to guess, a subset of these people believed he would "drain the swamp" or be an outsider or whatever, and are disappointed in the reality.

McConnell told moderates to support health-care bill WITH Medicaid cuts b/c they'll never go into effect anyway:

Master political mind.

Tasty new Gallup poll compares Trump approval among various geo-economic classes. He's uh, he's not doing great.

How in the world does he have a 38% in the African-American South?
Edit: Oh, this includes all population there, not just African-Americans.

Cant believe how many americans couldnt see through his obvious con.

Having lived in rural America for over 30 years, it's not surprising at all. They literally thought he could run the country like a business. I often heard how "anyone could be president and do fine." Just ludicrous stuff on a constant basis.

I have to guess they are concerned, which is why it sort of feels like Turtle is trying his hardest to ram the health care bill through. Mitch is basically throwing around random bullshit at this point to try and find the right combination of terrible ideas to get all Republican senators to jump arm in arm like the House.

I completely forgot about Political Gabfest. It's still great, that ol' stalwart.

John Dickerson's political analysis has fallen off a cliff because he clearly has to pander to Republicans in order to maintain "balance" for FTN, which is sad, but the three of them still find a great balance between accessibility and intelligence. Always a great listen.

Plus, they're, like, actually adults. Talking to each other.
