This.
The way people here wax poetic about wanting Sony to invest in small games doesn't fit with the reaction to this broadcast's content...
In 2023 Sony released/will release Final Fantasy XVI and Spider-Man 2. Two major AAA releases. This isn't much different from what it have done over the past years...I think Sony is in a lot more trouble than people realize when it comes to their first-party development.
As others have said we don't really have a single confirmed game for 2024, though I'm sure we can rely on another MLB The Show game. Though still stunning that they aren't releasing these on PC yet.
When in Sony's entire history have we not known a single game confirmed for an entire 12+ month period, especially after a pretty dry 2023...?
Day's Gone was released in early 2019, yet we don't even know what Sony Bend has? We're pushing nearly 5 years... So it sounds like a combination of covid and probably development issues. We know they were recruiting around Unreal Engine, which in itself is miraculous for a first-party studio.
Ghost of Tsushima was released in 2020 and we haven't seen anything from Sucker Punch since.
Dreams came out in early 2020 and Media Molecule is shedding employees and founders. Would not be surprised if MM closes down, yet it's hard to understand why Dreams wasn't ported to PC.
Naughty Dog's live service game was delayed because it didn't meet expectations. 3 years into the generation and we haven't seen anything from them other than a port and a remake.
Polyphony Digital still hasn't ported GT7 to PC.
Bluepoint released Demon's Souls in 2020 and again nothing to show since.
The Twisted Metal TV show came and went without ANY showing of the game.
London Studio has yet to put out a PS5 game and their last game came out in 2019...
The biggest games Sony has made over the last 3 years have been cross-gen games... Something very strange is going on that studios across the board are struggling. Maybe it's the new hybrid nature of work and more remote work, combined with significant delays via covid and probably a lack of infrastructure to really support remote game development.
I doubt Pixelopus will be the last studio closed for Sony this generation. Deviation Games while not owned by Sony, certainly is on the verge of closure as a result of things not going well. Haven Studio's game looks like complete trash, really begging the question as to why Sony bought them.
One could say that Sony really needs to look at their marketing and their lack of a roadmap, but at the same time the PS5 is selling like hotcakes. And there was once a time where Sony wasn't even a major publisher. Ultimately, I think we're seeing an impact across the industry with unfinished/rushed games, games that don't innovate. AAA is a really bad space to be in right now.
FF isn’t Sony though, that’s Square. From the looks of it, the only major title from PlayStation Studios is Spider-Man 2 (unless you count MLB the Show 23 and some smaller VR stuff major). In 2023 Sony released/will release Final Fantasy XVI and Spider-Man 2.
Which other platforms was FF XVI released on? It's an exclusive game that will only be released on PC in a few months (and probably never will be released on other consoles).FF isn’t Sony though, that’s Square. But isn’t the discussion around first party games made by PlayStation Studios? Why would a 3rd party game be relevant?Which other platforms was FF XVI released on? It's an exclusive game that will only be released on PC in a few months (and probably never will be released on other consoles).
Sony is clearly using third-party games to cover the gaps in first-party game development. But isn’t the discussion around first party games made by PlayStation Studios? Why would a 3rd party game be relevant?
I agree, and it is. But that’s something they have to do just because their own output is so disappointing, which is the point.Sony is clearly using third-party games to cover the gaps in first-party game development.
So far they haven't stopped delivering good exclusive releases. Isn't that what matters?
Last year they released Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West and GOW Ragnarok. In 2021, R&C Rift Apart and Returnal. How can this be disappointing?I agree, and it is. But that’s something they have to do just because their own output is so disappointing, which is the point.
Oh, for sure! They have lots of studios who are all working on stuff, no doubt about that. What people complain about is not knowing what first-party studios are doing, and I agree, I would like to know. I like the old Sony, which put on great shows and sold dreams. But think that first-party studios aren't doing anything, or that suddenly everyone has internal problems is crazy.
Geez, I understand that you guys are disappointed by the lack of focus on 1st party titles, but some of the reactions in here are a tad too melodramatic (pls don't kill me).
What are Sony 1st party up to. l mean this generation has been an unmitigated disaster.
In PS2 and PS3 era when it had healthy amount of both Japanese and western first party games but this gen I’m not sure what I should be excited about when it comes to first party games from Sony…..Marvel games?Square Enix announcing Final Fantasy or Capcom announcing Monster Hunter is cool and all, but I’m tuning in to a Sony show for that alone. What I want is the actual Sony stuff.

You should just play games.Oh, for sure! They have lots of studios who are all working on stuff, no doubt about that.
I think it’s just a common complaint in threads like this one because the big exciting first party title reveals are what most people, me included, look forward to at these events. The ‘one more thing’ announcements.

Yep. They have nothing in the pipeline. Their legacy studios won't be working on highly successful legacy games or their sequels that sold tens of millions even though those legacy game budgets were increased. They should pack up shop now.Sorry, pointing out reality is "Fudtard"??
I feel like those kinds of games would be announced at TGS, which is why I like TGS. I'm expecting more run of the mill western and Chinese/Korean third party games that all look alike.Maybe its my wishful thinking but hoping Vanillaware and Yoko Taro announce their new game on this show but my guess even they do want to announce their games it will be TGS rather than this sate of play.
At very least give Elden RING DLC trailer and release date.
waiting for ps6 release
You were kind of right! They announced a new Vanillaware game (I think) during the Nintendo Direct.Maybe its my wishful thinking but hoping Vanillaware and Yoko Taro announce their new game on this show but my guess even they do want to announce their games it will be TGS rather than this sate of play.

Oh I know…..Nintendo Direct has already won.You were kind of right! They announced a new Vanillaware game (I think) during the Nintendo Direct.
People just want Sony to finally show some new first party content, it's been forever since they've had a big well received show with new exclusives. I think people would be happy to see some smaller games from Sony, that's not what the SOP is going to be though. The way people here wax poetic about wanting Sony to invest in small games doesn't fit with the reaction to this broadcast's content...
Shadow drop helldivers would make this a good state of play.I hope we get a launch date for Helldivers 2
Oh I know…..Nintendo Direct has already won.
So? it doesn't change the fact it got announced on Nintendo Direct, that means the show was well worth watching and if look at my post I didn't say "switch won" I said "Nintendo Direct won".You do realize the two best announcements from the Direct - Unicorn Overlord and Tomb Raider Trilogy - are also on PlayStation, right? All Sony has to do is show a couple of cool things *not on Switch* to "win" lol.
I think it’s just a common complaint in threads like this one because the big exciting first party title reveals are what most people, me included, look forward to at these events. The ‘one more thing’ announcements.
People really need to process that Sony is not going to pump up other big blockbusters until Spider-Man 2 is out.
Imagine working at PlayStation as a marketing person. Getting paid big bucks to do literally nothing. Must be the life.
Playstation Six sounds fine which would be the offical name.I have a feeling it won't be called PS6. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue well.
PSssssssssiix.
Basically, I stopped caring about all these marketing events and just waited till afterwards to see what interested me.Gonna be boring as fuck like every state of play. Won't even bother watching it.
Benny is a man of culture I see. Risk of Rain 2 is my most second played game of all time
Helldivers 2 gameplay, lets go. I’m kinda skeptical because the first one worked so well as a top down shooter but Risk Of Rain 2 pulled it off.

Isn't this SOP geared towards 3rd party though? But isn’t the discussion around first party games made by PlayStation Studios? Why would a 3rd party game be relevant?
