Reality: it's another Blaz Blue.... I guess I should probably try a blazblue at some point.

They're pretty good. And really not as complex as the best friends make them seem.
At least I'm able to keep up with them easily enough.
And the music is pretty fucking great.

Writing is also generally hilarious when it wants to be, and super fun for being the dumb convoluted time-story it is. Had to have like a 3 hour conversation with my bro to collectively sort out how the fuck that timeline shit works. It's really nuts, but in a fun way.

Dangan ronpa mostly I haven't played much else but I like using my vita since the battery life is so great and it's more comfortable to play while laying in bed and junk

I honestly don't know how to feel about it. Like you say, the combat wasn't great, it's probably the most bullshit SMT I played. I was also meh on a lot of the characters which made it hard to really care what was happening to them (though I think the voice acting made me dislike a couple more characters than I should've). The demon auction system was pretty bad too.

I still beat the game 5 times so obviously I like it to some extent. Soundtrack is killer too.

Yeah the voice acting wasn't great, but for me I think all the build up to the setting was what did it for me. Some of the fights were bs but they were fun to play like

If you want to enjoy the story, which is a whole bunch of goofy ass fun, I'd recommend you pick up continuum shift extend on the cheap. It's got the story for the original game included for free, as well as the its own story(which is the full version of the second game story). Then you can jump right in to the craziness that is the ongoing chronophantasma shenanigans and enjoy the updated game mechanics and characters.
