The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Preview Thread

I want to see that
creature that stalks and watches you
that the GameXplain guys were talking about. Holy shit this game!

And therefore it's a good thing you don't have to bother with Nintendo threads like this one and obviously super-biased outlets like Kotaku for whom every Nintendo game is a classic...?

hold up

poes law got me spinning

you really believe this or are you just throwing that stooge a bone

Ok...tks guys...read a few and yeah seems like the negatives are just minor and everyone across the board is pretty hyped. Was gonna wait until Fall to get my Switch...

Thinking about just impulsing it and putting it on paypal now. Previews make it sound like we're in for another ocarina of time classic.

With Zelda it's best to take the chance and play it for yourself rather than relying on the media to give a less hyperbolic opinion.

I have bad news : the whole world is a Nintendo fan and therefore every review is biased.

Maybe the game is just really good?

Or maybe the problems aren't prevalent until after the five hour mark?

Either way "give me negatives!" seems like a strange desire.
There's always usually just "if I had one small gripe about the game..." and then someone will say it's hardly a big deal either way etc...first couple previews I was finding none of that even! And I just can't believe a game like that is released with virtually no flaws or at least annoyances. But this is preview and not the full review and better yet, some of the more tough to please outlets are super impressive as well.

Yeah, id say the writing is on the wall. This year keeps getting better.

Cmon guys at least spoiler the
blood moon
details I want to experience it fresh.

I sadly, partly sadly at least, saw it :(

Safe to say I am going on a total media blackout until I have the game next friday. I'll only check out the spoiler free written impressions, and the spoiler free reviews.

So performance is better when in portable mode ? Dont get this, the GPU has more than twice the clock in docked Mode, this should be enough for not even twice the pixels

Yeah, this is what happens when people speculate on technology lol.

The docked and the undocked use about the same amount of gpu, so the difference in resolution results in worse performance.

I know people speculated about the docked being twice as powerful, but that was never claimed by Nintendo and you cant actually tell how much a game acesses in general through looking at specs.

Long story short, expect worse performance when docked.

Probably already posted, but:

What is on the cliffside near where link pops the hang glider? An enemy or something growing there or perhaps a resource?

I mean this isn't a case of a developer with a merely competent track record hitting a home run out if nowhere thus inviting a level of skepticism, Nintendo is kind of known for making GOAT-level industry changing titles of high quality. That's kind of their thing.

feels like the review thread might be populated with its fair share of Horizon fans, explaining to us plebs how high review scores don't actually matter, they're all inflated because everyone overrates Nintendo games, shit's just an 8.8 really, if even that, and you're just a fanboy if you think it's legit, Legend of Belda hahahaha

man, as sick as Horizon looks, I'm not looking forward to another round of stooges comparing every single game ever made to it ala Witcher 3 and Bloodborne

I like how the dyes and customization are so whimsical as well. I just expected it to just instantly transform you, but nope, Zelda gotta have some fun with it first.

Yeah, I loved that. This may be one of the "darker" Zelda games, but you still have to have some goofy stuff in there. I actually burst out laughing when the dyeing started.

I want to bow out of this thread but I lack the willpower... help me.

The question I think is on everybody's mind:

What makes this game more special than other open-world games?

Please endeavor to answer this question in your review.

That question made me realize Passover is soon. Damn Matzah...

Some people say it's just nonsense hype that is unjustified though.

Got spoiled by two GIFs earlier.

Fuck.

But...

HYPE!

I didn't think I would be angry about spoilers like that, but I kinda am lol.

I really hope the rest of the game shakes out as well as these initial few hours of impressions suggest. I think that's my biggest concern right now.

Don't do this man.

Good talking to you bud

I wasn't talking about Jason particularly but in general Nintendo fans are overly attached to the brand. I like some Nintendo games and I'm getting the switch day one but I don't think the game is gonna be a classic. It already looks outdated.

Looks great. The world is staggeringly large. Hope it doesn't feel like there's too much wandering. Or at least, if there is, that the wandering is enjoyable and maybe even meaningful.

Have any of the reviews talked about side quests in the game? Do they come up much, and what kind of quality are they?
