Spider-Man 3 star Thomas Haden Church has dropped a few hints about which villain he is playing. 'Abysstare' says...

On page 57 of this week's double issue Entertainment Weekly (#826/827):

EW: After reminding the world he could really act in Sideways, the Oscar nominee will play an undisclosed, top secret villain in 2007's Spider-Man 3. How about a hint?

THC: "He's a horse of many colors."

EW: There are horses in Spider-Man?

THC: "Let's just say he's an amorphous collection of protons, electrons, and neutrons, of different colors."

I'm not sure who he is playing. There's some fan speculation that with Topher Grace, and the early rumored Larry David onboard, that they might be doing some kind of Sinister Six.

Chili Con Carnage!
Sandman?

I hope not personally i think the sandman sucks but his face instantly reminds me of the Sandman in ultimate.

Rainbow Coalition Man?

Sounds a little like Electro, a lot of people speculated SandMan and I thought he'd make a great Scorpion. If they are doing a Sinister Six type thing that would be cool. I don't think Sandman or many others would be considered enough to carry a movie by themselves. Sorry, meant Chameleon possibly?

There was a belief that maybe...

Thomas Haden Church = Sandman
Topher Grace = ?
Larry David = The Vulture
Dylan Baker = The Lizard
James Franco = Green Goblin/Hobgoblin

And you'd need one more for Sinister Six.

is larry really onboard? or is it just a rumour? because it seems to me that its a 'fan' thing.
it doesnt seem like 'larrys thang'.

Larry David himself said he was contacted to do a role in Spidey 3.

It's a damn shame that Raimi probably won't use Venom, the coolest Spider-Man villain ever, in his final Spider-Man film. Or even Carnage...Something Symbiote!

3 villains was already pushing it in Batman Begins (and Batman & Robin). 6 would just be ridiculous since you'd have to do the origins for nearly every single one of them. Half the movie would be origin stories.

Not really. Batman Begins had three villains and none of them really had origin stories.

But none of them are supervillains :D Wouldn't it seem a bit weird just to have a bunch of brand new guys with amazing powers show up with little-to-no explanation?

I'm a little pissed too that Raimi won't touch the Venom saga. We'll probably end up with some hack doing it and fucking the entire thing up.

Three Spiderman movies and no Venom? That's just wrong. I'd love to see Raimi handle a Spiderman/Venom/Carnage movie. But how the hell would he keep it PG-13? :lol

It's like they are purposefully trying to piss people off by throwing in every tiresome 3rd rate villain they can get.....while ignoring the one everybody is clamoring for.

They're saving Venom for the Schumacher-directed Spider-Man 4 where the Jimmy Fallon Spidey will face off against a singing and dancing Mysterio (Jean Claude Van Damme) who has a brainless throwaway sidekick named Venom.

Wilco you seem to have the inside scoop. Why is Raimi too chickensheet to touch the Venom saga?

After the first movie, Green Goblin/Hobgoblin storyline gets yawner from me.

The Venom saga would be the hardest thing in the world to pull off. There would have to be some major changes. Plus they've done the multiple personality/symbiotic thing twice now.

He said he doesn't like Vemon... can't blame a guy for not wanting to do something he doesn't like..

If Larry David were in Spiderman 3, maybe I'd actually like the movie this time.

This sounds like somebody's dream. Even without doing origin stories and whatnot, doing a proper buildup and giving each of the 6 baddies something close to resembling adequate screentime would take a 3 hour movie.

And the Vulture? Does ANYONE like the Vulture? Well, if Larry David is in the movie, every time he's onscreen they should play Curb Your Enthusiasm music.

Imagine that they scrapped the Joker/Two-Face storyline for the new Nolan Batman movies, and start a new plot thread involving The Ventriloquist, Mad Hatter, and Clock King. "Sorry we can't give you want you want, but we'll give you a lot of what you don't want!"

I really have no idea what the point of Larry David would be. He really doesn't have a threatening voice, and wouldn't bring much to the role other than a vaguely recognizable face.

May I ask why everyone is so convinced that if Larry David is in fact signed on to 3, he must be playing a supervillain character?

Sandman in Spider-Man 3.... Do New York got any sands in that state? What is his origin (Sandman) & how did he comes to life in the comic books?

Venom is undoubtedly my favorite Marvel character out there, and as much as I'de kill to see Venom in the final installment of Raimi's Spidey trilogy, I do understand why hes not touching it. Raimi thus far has taken the "realistic" approach to Spiderman, with the story foucsing mostly on Peter Parker as a human being, with all the trials and tribulations one would go through trying to juggle such tremendous power, protecting the ones they love, and trying to live a normal life all at the same time.

First off, to correctly portray Venom's story and his uncontrollable hate for Spiderman he would almost have to be the ONLY Villan, which would destroy all they've set up thus far. Also, symbiotic alien parasites really don't fit well within Raimi's interpreation of the Spiderman universe. Even if they heavily altered Venom's origin to make it fit, it would still be pushing it, and seem out of place most likey. And considering how nitpicky Marvel fans have been about the inconsistencies between minorr Marvel characters in films and their comicbook personas, i'm sure Raimi doing such with one of Marvel's biggest characters would cause a HUGE backlash. Eddie Brock's brief Cameo in the original is probably the closest we get to Venom in a Raimi directed Spiderman.

Prediction: Spiderman 3 will end with a teasing of Venom's coming...

Perhaps he will play Peter's long lost uncle, who shows up when Parker is feeling down to give an ironic, cornball speech about "what it means to be a hero" even though he doesn't know a thing about what's going on with Spider Man. Then he will try to molest a dog in the bathroom.

The plot will also have to involve dolls in some way. Or a grave typo in spelling the word "aunt."

Raimi doesn't really think Venom is all that great, and wants to show more classic villains before even touching that overrated bit of XTREME 90s trash that is Venom.

There is talks that he might stay on after Spidey 3, and I got to think that that's when he might tackle Venom, if only for fans.

dude, venom would be fucking awesome to put in a movie. the technology is there.... he would just have to make sure to make venom as viscious as possible, since that's how he was in the comic books... no pussy shit if you do venom raimi!

So he is going to do a slight remake of the first movie instead? Hobgoblin storyline can be cool, but I think it is coming too soon. The end of Spiderman 2 has me a little disinterested in Spiderman 3 already.
