Tom Henderson: Marathon is so cooked. (Not just this but just everything I've heard).

i don't understand the concept of Marathon, neither the move to launch multiple similar GaaS games from Sony.
it feels like they are throwing shit on the wall and waiting for the one to stick.

That's basically the whole GaaS space in a nutshell. Make ten of them and maybe one will be successful.

Why the fuck was this even named Marathon?

People who actually remember the 1990's era Mac shooters won't give a fuck about some generic GaaS shit and people who don't will not understand why it's name after a 30+ year old game series

Because it's an IP that retroactively accrued cachet amongst the Halo audience and now they're desperately trying to leverage it's name to make money.

I have such great memories of Marathon. I was a mac gamer at the time, lots of lan parties. Also it got me into level editors and game engines as I messed around with the forge and anvil editors for the game. It deserves some "proper conduct." Had some really great ideas and concepts for its time.

Ryan is the worst thing that has ever happened to playstation.

Billions down the drain for gaas shit.
And he completely fucked Sony's first party output. I googled a list of SIE's published games this gen. Absolute disaster, 4 fucking years in the gen.

Unless a showcase is around the corner with a dozen of true killer apps up to 2027, PS5 will go down in history as the worst sony system ever.

Jim was shown the door with a nice excusable exit... nothing can convince me of the contrary... or he's a genius farted and peaced out.

Cancel Marathon. Shut down Destiny 2. Cancel Destiny 3.

Go back and make real games with a story campaign and a proper multiplayer mode. This shouldnt be that hard. If chinese developers can do it on the first try then Bungie can go back to their roots as well.
Destiny 3 (if there is any talent left at Bungie), would sell quite a bit.

Sony needs to take a long hard look at Marathon now that Concord has completely crashed and burned.

I don't get all the GAAS hate around here.

Most are either free to play or don't cost more than other games. They're constantly updated with content, giving people a reason to keep playing, and provide good value.

You'd rather have a game that releases as-is and ends up abandoned, save for maybe some bug fixes and paid DLC, only for a sequel to be released a year or two later, killing/dividing the first game's population and costing you another $70?

That model doesn't make any more sense than GAAS. Especially compared to something like Overwatch 2, which is completely free to play with an optional battle pass full of cosmetics every three months.

I hope TLOU2 MP, Conconrd, and this would wake up Sony and let them return to do what their fan base have been enjoying and cherishing.

Honestly, Japnese should take back all leadership of Playstation.
I believe they already have, Sony HQ are not happy with the PS division that much is apparent. Going forward funding will be drastically reduced after what can only be described as disaster after disaster.

Found the GaaS game developer.

Imagine Marathon being a Mirror's Edge/Titanfall style singleplayer fps, by Bungie.

This sounds so much more appealing to me than whatever Marathon is trying to be right now. I don't want to sound crude but it does feel like talent is being wasted due to mismanagement and an unhealthy fixation on GaaS.

This is what I think also. He sure managed to greatly capitalize on PS4 tail end and reputation to sell a lot of PS5s, but every decision regarding software has been disastrous and he set a very bad direction for the future of the ecosystem.

Because the company wasted time and money on this stuff. And could had used all those resources to make better games, including trying an existing modern IP instead brand new unknown stuff like Concord, or 30 year old franchses like Marathon most gamers never heard of before because the first game was on Mac.

Totoki never said he was unhappy but he sure broke some tables and made big changes.

It's clear that many higher ups weren't doing jack shit during COVID-19.
