I had to work tonight but we took our dinner at Jack Astor's at Yonge/Bloor at 9pm so we were able to watch ET.

that was definitely one of the best MLS matches I've seen, maybe one of the best soccer matches overall. combined with the first leg in Montreal, the momentum swings were just incredible

Am I going to be left out at the meetup because I don't follow football of either continent? I get this feeling.
Nah. We talk about everything. Gaems, Sports, Movies, TV, fighting kave_man, wrasslin, cellphone plans, fighting Kraftwerk, weather, Toronto, politics, electrocuting fuzzy, food, beer, Coors, Uniqlo, fucking Hanzo mains, etc.

ALRIGHT ALRIGHT PEEPS

I might come back into town. Contemplating coming back over for Easter weekend since it's Friday&Monday off work! And I wanna go see Niagara falls this time. What's the best way to make it there? Best solution I can think of atm is renting a car at YYZ, driving there, staying there overnight, seeing the falls, then driving into downtown the next day and dropping the car off at YTZ and stay downtown for two nights. (Or do two nights in Niagara falls, one night downtown but then I gotta pay for an extra day of car rentals...)

looks like public transit from YYZ to Niagara falls would take roughly an eternity. and back.

Yeah... direct transit is essentially UP express to union, GO lakeshore west to end of line and then GO bus to Niagara (assuming the trains have stopped running) or 192 bus to kipling station, 44 to Lakeshore blvd, 501 street car to longbranch loop then GO train westbound+GO bus.

Our transit can be so dumb. At least this should be fixed in a few years as you could take the Mississauga hurontario LRT south to port credit GO lol (by a few i mean at least 7 years)

Isn't there shuttles from Pearson to Niagara?

There's a bus from Pearson to Niagara that will cost you $100 one way if that's what you want

Renting a car will be cheaper AND faster AND more convenient than that :lol (e.g. a Hertz Rental for 24h is around 60.- + gas)

so you agree renting a car IS the best way then? :D

Probably. Though you could look into the tour buses that go to the casino (I think they still have them go to the casino) but those are usually pretty limiting.

And you should tell us when you are in town. We could try a meetup but Easter might be tricky.

Will QA for food.
Renting a car is crazy talk. You can ride back and forth on Via for $50, which is way more convenient for a tourist, or someone new to the area. It's not the direct cheapest, but it'll be more convenient. Bus options as kat mentions are various 'casino' buses, or even GO.

I would want to avoid driving if at all possible myself. I guess if you want to experience being jammed up with traffic on the Skyway though..

This is the way to go. I wouldn't recommend driving.

I wanna check out this artist that's playing next week in New York...

Never been to the states before. As a Canadian citizen how does it work? Can I just buy a bus ticket and go straight to New York and that's it?

Yep that's it, I took a grey hound over to new York a few years ago for a show as well.

You stop at a border or whatever it was and get out and tell them what you're going for show em ID.

Yes, as long as you have a passport or another equivalent id.

I guess I'll make a call tomorrow and check if I can enter with just a citizenship card, or any other form of ID. Don't have a passport currently and no way it's gonna arrive before the show on the weekend.

Click on the link I gave you, citizen card isn't good enough for those 16 and older.

Travel documents - Land and water travel

As per the U.S. law Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), Canadian citizens aged 16 and over must present one of the following documents when entering the U.S. by land or water:

a passport;
a NEXUS card;
a Free and Secure Trade (FAST) card;
an enhanced driver’s licence (EDL) or enhanced identification card (EIC) from a province or territory where a U.S.-approved EDL/EIC program has been implemented; or
a Secure Certificate of Indian Status.

The WHTI-compliant document you choose to use must be valid for the duration of your stay in the U.S.

Darn 9/11. We used to be able to go over there with just a driver's license.

From literally that post:

I mean we used to be able to cross the border using an ordinary driver's license with no enhancements.

I've been meaning to get that NEXUS card, as I travel often for work to the US and back, but have been generally lazy about it.

Anyone in here go through the process recently? I've heard it can take anywhere from a week or so, to up to a couple months before they call you in for an interview before giving you the card?

If it's going to take longer than a month, I may as well finally apply now, before my London vacation.

My family has considered it so we can get past the border lineups faster but we haven't gone much lately. One thing you can do is to drop off the people who don't have the card at the foot traffic crossing which also goes much faster than the car line haha.

I don't know if I'll ever get back to Niagara Falls, but I've always wondered if you could just walk across the bridge to the American side for a couple of hours and then just walk back.

I just got it this summer - it takes about 3 month of waiting to approve the initial application, then you can schedule an in-person interview which depending on availability means another 2-3 weeks of waiting. after the interview it's about a week to get the card in the mail so the entire thing will take you roughly 3-4 months from applying to having the physical card.

With a passport (or the other id listed above) you can.

Pre-9/11 I crossed the border with friends who all had id but I didn't because I forgot my driver's license at home. They just all swore in front of the border agents both ways that I was Canadian and they let me pass. Thinking back, it was crazy.
