Undertale is [has won] the GameFAQs Best. Game. Ever. poll

Rematch: Best video game character of all time?

Results are only viewable after voting.
I still have no idea why Undertale is considered a "SJW" game. Because people on Tumblr like it? Because the idea is to not kill things? It's really just a testament to how "SJW" means "thing I don't have a good reason to shit on but will shit on anyway"

Anyway Undertale definitely has my vote over OoT. I've never particularly liked that game and it's not like the contest means anything.

It has gay and lesbian characters in it.

Those gamefaqs polls have become a joke long ago. Everytime there is one people troll so the underdog wins, stopped caring about them long time ago.

I guarantee Undertale is forgotten a year from now. Messing with GameFAQs is funny though, so I approve.

What I am amused by is the first "scandal" on the GameFAQs contests was by Mario fans on one of the first contests, and now they scream/whine all over the internet about how unfair it is that other people do the same thing.

Well it's not like the game was written by Steven Moffat. The gay characters don't merely exist for the writer to pat himself on the back. It'd be pretty damn pathetic to hate a game for that.
"SJW" is going to be screamed at anything with LGBT characters. Yes, people can and do hate games for that. It's "progressive", therefore "gay agenda", therefore "SJWs".

I think Undertale should've been barred from this contest on account of it just having come out and still being in its honeymoon period. Plus, I think Melee should've won the last round.

With that said, Undertale is my GOTY at this point and seeing the salt from the game winning this poll is goddamn hilarious.

Haha. Gamers struggle so hard with difference of opinion, objective/subjective and a fucking internet poll. Lighten up. Anyone who genuinely gives a crap should put some serious time into thinking about their life and what they value.

i need to play Undertale

Honestly I would have voted for Daikatana over OOT just cause I'm sick and tired of that game being hailed as the 2nd coming/Citizen Kane/mom's apple pie/Tom Brady/first time getting laid/Batman of gaming.

Undertale is so much better than Ocarina of Time, it's not even funny. Hell, Ocarina of Time isn't even one of the top three best Zelda titles, let alone the best game of all time.

That being said, I am not sure if I would vote for Undertale as the best game ever, mainly because I don't think such thing exists.

What? Dude come on, of course it is. An aggregate of 'opinions', sure, but it's the nature of the question that matters. Like I said, the poll isn't 'What's your favourite game?' - it's supposed to be an as-unbiased-as-can-be verdict on the greatest game of all time.

Rubbish. It is, as GameFAQs says itself, "a big popularity contest".

And objective is exactly what game reviews should be!? Otherwise we'd get people injecting entirely their own personal preference into scores that are supposed to be a fair representation of a game's quality - they're guides to help people decide whether to buy a game or not. If Reviews weren't objective, you'd get people saying "3/10, although Uncharted 4 is a nice game, it doesn't have sonic in it, my favourite hero of all time".

Any given review is a single person's opinion, and different people will place different emphasis on different aspects of that. There is no properly objective metric for what makes a game good or bad, and there can be no insight as a result of strict objectivity. Good reviews may want to keep a sense of proportionality and, yes, objectivity, to better make its points, but that's not the purpose of a review.

Gamergate has made "objective reviews" a cornerstone of its stated principles from the very start, and it amounts to nothing more than an attempt to stifle dissenting opinion or genuine insight.

I'm asking for your objective opinion (yes, such a thing exists).

I disagree. There are objective facts, not objective opinions.

You should take those criteria into account because you've been asked a question that's supposed to conclude with an objective result - that's why you ask so many people, so an average can be construed. I also LOVE Galaxy 2. I LOVE Twilight Princess, and DOTA 2... Are any of these the greatest games of all time? Perhaps not, and that distinction is just something I have to consider when answering the question. I don't particularly enjoy Tetris. In fact, I find it tedious. But would I consider it as a contender? Absolutely. It's well designed, simple, was enjoyed by millions, changed the industry, and has a significant legacy as a result.

Personal enjoyment of a game is absolutely critical for me considering it THE BEST. GAME. EVER. I'm not going to vote for a title that I don't enjoy simply to be worthy- I'm going to vote for what I consider to be the best game ever, just as the poll asks. If we're being objective, just get a specs list or something, and cut out all those pesky opinions messing with the facts.

Of course, this is all moot, because the poll specifically allows for people just to vote for games they like. It's allowed!

I gave a legit vote to Undertale. Sorry fans, but I really can't get into the Zelda franchise or see what's so objectively good about OoT. I don't think Undertale is the greatest game ever, but at least I wasn't bored.

What's this from?

Undertale is probably in my top 15 games of all time, if not higher. It's one of those games that you will immediately want to replay. More people need to play this.

as a ginormous undertale fan and someone who has bought multiple copies for friends and family at this point, I kind of wish this wasn't happening? It's a great game that absolutely deserves praise, but this borderline fanaticism does it no favors. Maybe it's unavoidable, but I think people would approach it from a much better mindset if it inhabited the "General positive buzz, on a few game of the year lists" space rather than "Overly emphatic fans push it to the top of a 'best game of all time' poll."

I guess I just don't want people to think badly of the game because of the rabid fanbase, and I don't want people to approach it with skepticism or negativity because of that.

It's a good game and I think you should play it if you want to, and I'm sorry about all this craziness.

Yeah, I'd go with that too. As funny as I find this all, people being driven away from the game because of the zealotry of some of the fanbase would be a real shame.

On the whole, I'm inclined to think that Undertale getting this far will galvanise more people to try it out, and that those railing about SJWs were hardly likely to play the game anyway, but we don't want to ram it down people's throats either.

"SJW" is going to be screamed at anything with LGBT characters. Yes, people can and do hate games for that. It's "progressive", therefore "gay agenda", therefore "SJWs".

I understand this, but this isn't a game that's using it as a twist or trying to start a conversation about it, it's a comedy game that's more similar to the Mario RPG's than anything else. There are loads of things that happen to have gay characters that aren't the whipping boys of the anti-"SJW's"

Another reason is that the game allows almost complete non-violence. Which is apparently "SJW"-ish. A lot of people try to find a reason to dismiss it.

Undertale is a game i prefer to watch than play, Hated the battle mechanics couldnt get through the game.
Watching it was more fun, but i was one and done

I know it's ironic since I care enough to post here, but do people really care about this. Are the reactions really not some kind of joke?

I'm sure some gamefaqs users genuinely care and are upset.(which is hilarious) The only reason this is getting any attention is because of Undertale being on top.

Trying hard. In all aspects if ya know what I mean.

Undertale the GOAT. Deus Ex step aside, bow down to Undertale. It is the best there ever was, is, and will be.
Mother 3 was better. Sorry, not sorry.

Eh, from what I've seen ain't any different from the persona fanbase. >_> <_<

Oh god I am dying.
The last wish of "The Boss"... a world without shitposters.... but it was only a fantasy. This wish was misinterpreted. And thus, "Outer Heaven," a place where people could shitpost freely, was created
Sooo good.

Hint: Anything that develops into a fanbase is toxic by nature of its own irrationality towards perceived difference.
