Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 2 |OT| FOR THE EMPEROR!!

Tip for Primarch is to use Cyrus as he can instantly revive fallen comrads, use items and snipe monsters all while invisible.

You can also cheese bosses by doing a hit&run snipe attack, he is seriously overpowered.

I hate how the game doesn't have a chat log, and if someone is lagging, those "waiting for" notices will push your actual chat off screen and you can never get it back.

Still aeons better than Borderlands "chat" :p

Is the Primarch the huge robot guy from one of the side missions?

I had to kite that guy for an hour straight to take him down.

Yeah, cyrus is probably the most over-use squad leader. I used my commander as decoy and hit and run until the boss die. But on defense misson, it just impossible .. you get overrun in less than a min....

Primarch isn't a unit, it's the hardest difficulty level.

Worst 5$ Zzoram ever spent. :lol

And the reason they would destroy the human defense is to turn the Hive Fleet back is Orks. It isn't explained in the game, but Orks are pretty much the answer to any planetary invasion. They reproduce through their own sweat glands, they grow quickly, and they fight everything. If the Orks could have overtaken the human settlements and cities, they would have held the Tyranids in check for quite a long time.

Just started singleplayer up again in anticipation. Jesus, I forgot how hard Primarch was. Playing it with my buddy was a breeze when we first played it. Alone I pretty much suck, expect for Cyrus bombing everything to hell and back.

Finally after much delay I have gotten to the end of the original campaign. Though didn't finish it yet as the game crashed on me but oh well. Have to say overall I preferred Dawn of War 1. I enjoyed the base building. Being able to attach certain units to squads and being able to reinforce said squads away from the base or captured points on the map. I felt DoW2 lost a lot when the base building was removed in favor of a more expanded war gear system that was introduced in Dark Crusade. DC was the best mix I felt. Wish it had the same story production value as the original DoW and DoW 2 but guess you can't have everything.

I didn't really like the optional missions. After a while they felt like busy work to expand the game. Before going into the final mission I had a bunch up I just ignored. At least I think it is the final missions as it said it would end the campaign.

I thought the eldar were trying to tie everyone up in a war on human soil - orcs vs tyrranids vs humans vs eldar - allowing the homeworld to remain safe. However the success of the space marines in forcing back the orcs, prevented the orcs from successfully combating the tyrannids, thus resulting in the eldar falling back to the "nuke it from orbit its the only way to be sure" strategy.

I am on The Last Stand, but yeah, pretty much Cyrus is my go to guy. I also thought the Primach would give you better loot (like most other loot games) but that's doesn't seem to be the case. It's also harder to aquire new gears because most of the mission at the end were base defend.

I don't know how terrible the story is since I skipped everything I could, but what I do know is that the campaign is awesome.

The only thing I wondered about is that do you get to decide who controls which squads later on?
Yes. Max of 2 units per player.

This is it.

1. The Eldar provoked the Orks to get a WAAAGHHH started, which would tie the Nids up indefinitely, saving the Craftworld.

2. Blowing up the Forge, and thus the planet, would rob the Nids of a great deal of biomass, which weakens the Hive Fleet.

Their motives made perfect sense to me.

I actually enjoy tactical aspect and squad level, it's nice sometimes not having to worry about base building etc.

But I agree the weakeast part of DoWII is the side missions, they are all generic and really boring, what doesn't help is that they all recycle maps...

You are on the last mission, the first time I play it I though that mission was pretty epic, sadly the game just end and doesn't let you keep playing.

It seems DoWII:Chaos suppose to address the boring mission structure. I never play this game on-line as my computer is barely good enough to run it on medium.

Been playing DOW 2 recently and it's a great game. Any clues on how to Beat the Angel Forge Mission. I've played it several times and I can't get the gate closed.

Well, Primach (which was a bitch), I rescue all the guardmen as they provide good distraction, equip my commander with blessing orb but mainly it's Cyrus that save the day (as well as most of my missions on Primach difficulty level), used his sniper ability and target the leader tyranid and kill it then they will turn on one anothers. I pretty much have the whole gate to myself as they were all outside slaughtering one another.

Also, putting Avitus in one of the guardhouses next to the gate (where he can suppress every enemy on his side with little chance of retaliation) helps loads.

/ end of notes for 2.1 Chaos Rising Update
==============================

And again Space Marines got shafted. No T1 upgrade or changes, Banshees buffed, Eldar platforms buffed, no assault marine buff. Well, that's it for my Space Marine account. Gonna go Chaos only or Eldar if Chaos has the same weaknesses as Space Marines.

I saw the addon today. But I did not buy it because I preordered for 10bucks less and I cannot play before friday I think because of Steam AND GfWL :D

I'm starting to get excited about the expansion. I hope the community picks up. The lack of a lobby has really hurt this game IMO.

I'm absolutely hyped about it. New co-op campaign, that improves upon some of the repetitive mission design of the vanilla one? 2 new chars for the fantastic Last Stand mode? I'm going to get a ton of value out of this xpac.

Gamestop will have the game on sale for $10.00 off according to the sale guy when I try to buy it today, he told me to wait till Friday because they are doing promotion.

Review seems very positive about Chaos Rising with better mission structure.

I just started replaying this. Lost my last save in a reformat because I forgot to back up my Live profile along with the save.

I really like the single-player mode, repetitive or not. I think I'll grab the expansion once I finish the main game.

Space marines ARE 40k unfortunately, i prefer IG but marines are the best selling army for games workshop, accounting for up to half of all their sales. Second best selling army?...CHAOS SPACE MARINES! :lol

Yeah, with you on that. I was quite bummed when I realized that we will be playing yet another Space Marine campaign. Sucks really hard. I did like the campaign in DoW II though and I want to support Relic but next expansion has to be something different or I will be thinking hard about buying.

Agreed! Would love to see the Tau in a fleshed out campaign. Do not know if I should buy CR - waiting for Gaf impressions I think.

Oh god, they reduced the price for orbital bombardment and it's ilk. Fuck, I hate those powers, they aren't fun whatsoever.

Who paid you to grab Dr. Pavel?
Does this game make anyone else really tense? I can only play 1 lengthy single player mission per session because it seems like it takes a lot out of me, the harder ones that is.

Well, I'm not the biggest fan of them either, but I don't think I saw them once at the previous cost.

only before that patch people used to crack that shit out

Chaos Rising reviews are coming in thick and fast with pretty good scores!

Eurogamer gives it a 9/10 describing it as "an epic, brutal adventure in the ever-adored 40K universe, there's nothing to rival it."

Another score of 9 from GamesRadar - it contains minor spoilers so if, like me, you like to keep games a surprise avoid reading! :D
"CR’s opening battle sets the tone for the next 14 consistently complex and excellently-paced missions."

9.1/10 from NowGamers.
Review may contain spoilers but does include lots of detail! :)
"Combat in Chaos Rising is perhaps even better than in DOW 2, thanks to the inclusion of the Chaos Marines, who field dark versions of the units you do."

It does for me too. I never played RTS' except for the past couple of years. I really enjoy these games, but it does a number on me as well.
