World of Final Fantasy |OT| Lightning Inside

The dialogue/VAs are better in some places than others, it's pretty obnoxiously pun-ny at the beginning and that lessens a bit as the story goes on I feel.

Net negative for me, but I don't have the greatest issue with it because it's supposed to be for kids, and is pretty in line with what most shows aimed at kids are written and sound like.

My god the dub is like new levels of cringe.
It had to be 28-40 year old "gamers" localising this, not that the Japanese dialogue isn't cringey in places but the translation just doesn't match up with the Japanese, even in places where no localisation would be needed to make it seem more natural. The worst part of it is the Japanese voice over is launch day dlc. The whole tama thing with the is the worst way to localise his way of speaking. This being for both kids and adults isn't justification at all. Most of the game is throwbacks to final fantasys which kids wouldn't be able to complete, I dont even know if they'd have the patience or be able to complete this.
A literal translation would have been better than whatever the hell the people who came up with this. I don't even know if them being high is enough to explain it, 2 kids(<11) watched me play the demo & opening dubbed and even they thought it was dumb.

God I hope the ffxv dub team is actually competent.

Well at least XV jap dub is available to everyone at least.

Yeah... But some people(not me obviously) prefer the dub due to not having toreading subtitles and other reasons. The translation will also still be localised. I play in whatever language the game was created, the director is directing the game how they want it, localisation ruins a lot of this. Also my Japanese isn't that good, I can understand this game mostly but it'll be nowhere near good enough to understand when they explore lore in ffxv. Also, I was planning on playing with the dub in my second playthrough.
I've never actually been this annoyed at a game, it's not like they localised it a little, they changed the tone a lot and made reinne a bitchier then she actually is. The gameplay & minion descriptions are great though.

Does the Japanese version have that bio about that two headed mirage that rap battles itself but keeps ruining the mic because it spits poison? Because if it doesn't, then the Japanese script is trash

There's this great quote from Lawrence Kasdan who cowrote Star Wars and it was something along the lines of him telling jjabrams that the force awakens needs to be delightful. Just make a delightful movie.

And the more I play thisgame the more I just keep thinking about that quote and how utterly delightful it is.

One amazing highlight was walking on magitek armor through the ice fields with Terra's theme playing. Good GOD son.

Yeah, I'm not even a huge FF fan and found it delightful. It's like a AAA costume quest.

I'm still plodding my way through the game, spending too much time imprisming mirages, I'm sure. After a few little story beats in a row, I'm finding that WoFF is a lot more successful than Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts at blending in the characters and the world. Dissidia always had these long cutscenes where two characters who had very little in common would ramble on in prolonged monologues about nothing. FF characters in Kingdom Hearts were generally a bit better, but still kinda clunky in its execution. WoFF has done a good job of taking character's stories from their original games, and tying them WoFF's story. I enjoyed the little world building detail of both
Rydia and Yuna being summoners, with Rydia looking up to Yuna. Both of them knowing of Reynn's and Lann's mother has potential. I'm assuming Eiko will know Yuna and Rydia, too.
In retrospect, WoFF is a lot of what I was originally hoping for character-wise from Dissidia.

(Don't know whether to spoiler tag names or not, because there were some characters that were less prominently used in advertising. For a few of them, I had forgotten they were included, so it was a pleasant surprise when they showed up.)

I did laugh out loud at the unlikely moment of award-winning voice actor
Troy-bloody-Baker having an entirely serious conversation as a ribbit-ing frog. I'm glad he came back for Snow, and it was nice to have a character that made Lann look sensible. It was odd seeing Lann as the serious one.
I'm really surprised at some of the voice actors they rounded up for the dub, I was not expecting Jennifer Hale to be voicing Feathery Knight Lady. I did a huge double-take the first time she spoke. I haven't heard an actual line of dialogue yet, but the Who's Who spoiled me on
Claudia Black apparently voicing Leviathan. Yes, please.

Pre-game, I thought Tama's 'the' usage would drive me batshit, but I find I only end up registering that she's saying it half the time. Kupo, on the other hand.... especially in the interventions... kupppppppppppoooooooo! My love-hate relationship with moogles is deep and eternal.

The interventions continue to completely be the best part of the game.
The Cranberry Knights were gloriously bizarre. I think I'll have to rewatch the cutscene in Japanese to hear Jouji Nakata doing high-pitched voices.

I'm still really enjoying the freedom that the mirage boards provide. I needed an L-sized creature with fire, transformed my Holy Dragon -> Red Dragon, and was able to acquire all the fire abilities I needed without grinding out any levels. The freedom it gives in experimenting with your mirages is great. I know there is better long-term benefit in raising mirages from their base form, but man, the levelling up can feel so slow when they're at the same level as Reynn and Lann. Having to jump four levels for one ability can take ages.

Fantastic, thank you, I'd been wondering who had worked on it. Hopefully he'll come back for KH3.

Oh :( I don't get why she has never been mentioned again. I know plenty don't like Rinoa but plenty do too. Putting Quistis in over her just hurts my feelings.
I think she would have fit in quite well too, she could have been the ditzy leader of a resistance against the federation

Hi guys, not sure if it has been mentioned. But the vita version in the uk doesn't have the downloadable English voices. Is there any word from Square Enix on availability?

I love the English localization; it imbues the characters with so much personality that playing the game becomes a joy rather than a burden. I suspect a literal translation from the Japanese would have made the cutscenes a chore.

Damn the Rat Tail, Doga's Artifact, Griffin's Heart and Unei's Mirror missions are super easy. They're level 83/85 and I did them easily at 70. Don't delay on unlocking those last two mirajewel slots.

I don't think you can really say this game is aimed at kids or a younger audience, given that reference go back as far asf FFI.

It's definitely a title aimed at all FF fans.

Spent about 2 hours last night getting Fritt and Zapt from the secret area of the Nether Nebula. During that time I encountered 2 Fritts, 1 Zapt and 0 Bablizzes. Luckily I chose to fight Shiva earlier so I already had a Bablizz. Had my Right Claw with the No Escape ability and a single Thunder attack item to use on Zapt. I'm pretty sure I've captured every monster available so far but none of them had thunder available without transfiguring.

My party's all around level 26 now though. I like being strong so it's OK.

Is there a bestiary/pokedex of any kind? I want to know what monsters I've caught in total and read the descriptions again. Seems like a huge oversight if there isn't at least a bestiary.

Still not quite sure how transfigurations really work when going backwards, as it is. I get that it's not like Pokémon, where a new form is always better. But is there a point in levelling something like an XL
Iron Giant
for the
Mighty Guard
-ability if you dont plan on using the
Iron Giant
itself? Can its M/S-forms use
Mighty Guard
also? Are abilities with a white circle around them locked to one form or is it the other way around?

So I just started this game last night after being convinced by multiple people to pick it up (the demo didn't completely sell me) and I have to say it's been fun so far.

Except for Lann. Especially Lann. My god, could you have force fed the "dumb as bricks" stereotype any harder? Ugh, those jokes are beyond corny, I can barely take it.

If an ability is highlighted green in the ability list (Triangle on Mirage Board), it doesn't carry between forms. Everything else does.

I can get over the dialogue mostly. I find the way Tama speaks like nails on a chalk board with that the- stammer thing he does though. Extremely irritating, lol.

I don't mind the dialogue personally. It's no Paper Mario that's for sure, but it's got its own charm. It's way more corny and cheeseball, but it fits the game I think.

Can anyone point me in the direction of how to get arma gems? I got like 4 intervention quests I can do but I only have one arma gem. I heard you can do online battles but I haven't gotten any arma gems yet through them.

The main story + dialogue is terrible, but I'm not going to hold that against localization when the bestiary was clearly done with a lot of flair. There's only so much they can salvage in some parts.

For now, boss battles. Just proceed through the main story. By the end of the main story you'll have more than enough for every intervention quest and champion medal.

Rikku and Yuna definitely sound different than they did in X. You still hear them in there at times, but 15 years has changed their voices/styles.

Even since the last Vita update I am getting three second white screens every random encounter. They seem like a loading screen.
Could be just happening because I am late game, Chapter
17.

Ah, this has been bugging me a lot, now I get it. So all the passives transfer, but not the active abilities.

So in theory, it'd be better to have a single max mirage with every transfig done, so you could freely switch between them for active skills. But the stats would be much stronger in all of the forms, over just catching a new mirage and keeping it locked down to a certain role.

You should catch every mirage you can, fills out your bestiary, but generally you only need to stick to one per family line for active use. Gets stronger. Gets bonus for a completed mirage board across all forms.

I'm about 12 hours in and the game seems a bit easy, does it get more challenging later on?

Because I have been using the same mirages for a while now and there doesn't seem to be any reason to change it. Even against enemies that exploit my weaknesses I can power through it.

Only a few bosses pose a bit of a challenge later on, only the side stuff until then will push you at all.

Haha, well... I'm pretty sure I just more or less broke the game's difficulty curve for myself. I was going through the
Windswept Mire
in chapter 13, and I activated the elemental switch to access the "secret" area my first time through. Problem is, even though the
Malboro Menace and Flan Princess
you fight there are clearly supposed to be way too strong for you at this point in the game and you're meant to come back later, it's not actually that hard to survive long enough to topple the initial stack and imprism the
Malboro Menance
, and the
Flan Princess
on its own is easy to defeat. Well, RNG was on my side and that's exactly what happened... and I got something like 90,000 EXP for my trouble, which caused my entire party to gain 3-4 levels. I was already one-shotting most regular enemy mobs, but now I feel like I'm practically floating through the game. I took down
the Big Jiggle
(chapter 13 story boss) in four hits.

I'm now in the
Figaro Castle prison
in chapter 14 and my whole party is level 32-34. It's certainly better to be too OP than too underleveled, but man, this just made an already easy game even easier. :P

Well my brother hasn't played any FF games since FFX came out, and I showed him this game yesterday and he recognized Yuna's voice straight away. He commented on how cool it was that they got the same vocie actors so he obviously thought she sounded similar :p

I just went back and swept some old dungeons for Murkrifts and areas I could reach until I got some new abilities. A couple zones are still showing one or two blank mirage spots on the list though... Is there some extra thing I'm missing? Are there just some super low encounter rate mirages? Anything I can do to boost that rate if so?

Seems like there's at least one secret area per dungeon, which would be one. I dunno. Some encounter rates are super low though, yeah. Baby
Shiva
took three hours for me to spawn.

Does no one do multiplayer in this? D: Can't find anything searching, nor by making a room.

EDIT: THESE CACTAURS SOME SUMBITCHES. >:(

Is there something that causes you do to 0 damage occasionally? I get it a lot. It's not on a Resist or anything, either. The same attack will do normal damage the next round.

I believe some mirages can nullify physical attacks sometimes. It specifically mentions it in the description of the sand kitty enemy that I can't remember the name of, the one that evolves into a sphinx looking thing

This. A couple enemies have "Sometime you do 0 damage" abilities.

Also, I made a Cactuar/Mist Dragon stack and am dying at how little I get hit and counter. Messing with stacks is a real blast.

I wish there were more decent small sized monsters. I don't use large much, and *everything* turns large after an evolution or two :/

Yeah. Most of my small guys are ones that I opened up the Transfig mirage board for and then kept them small and just went through their other boards.

I agree with this 100%.

Also, I just found a tiny
Mindflayer
so that's going on top of my head next.
