World of Final Fantasy |OT| Lightning Inside

Oh yeah I'm not sure if the game mentions it - the tutorial pop ups are not as detailed as they should be - but if the bottom of your stack is an L Mirage that's floating, they avoid (almost?) all Earth damage. But it won't show in the elemental weakness screen. You can have a -100 earth weakness and as long as the bottom is floating you're good.

In FF games traditionally, flying creatures will not be effected by earth damage. The game includes a few things like this that are not really mentioned, but are staples of the franchise. All of the status ailments for example, are presumed to be known. They are not explained anywhere I can see.

Come to think of it, the game tries to be aimed at a younger group, but outright fails to offer them any explainable depth. It all needs to be found by the player, which given that the tutorial for me was still going 20 hours in, seems like a mistake. Like they aimed the game at long term fans, but not the artwork and script.

Yeah I noticed this too. Moves like Tremor have no effect for as far as I can see.

I'm yet to find an area where that's particularly useful as I'm currently neck deep in lava, but I'm sure it'll come in handy somewhere own the line!

Oh my God, this is such a fantastic game! Absolutely loving it (around 30 hours in so far).

After the utter disappointment of FFXIII, I swore I had gone off Final Fantasy for good and would never trust to buy another game in the franchise again. Yet, weirdly, I purchased this on a whim, despite not knowing a single thing about it.

I'm not seeing too much coverage of this game at all, and the reviews I have read have given it a lower score than I think it deserves.

I hope it does well, I would absolutely love to see a sequel.

I never thought I'd say a story should be more like Pokemon, but if there's a sequel, yeah it should be more like Pokemon.

Really the story should be pretty casual and loose like the interventions and bestiary and far less Kingdom Hearts. There's no need for world ending stakes.

Considering the story for Pokemon was one of the biggest reasons for turning me off like 4 Pokemon games I am completely okay with the story being as far from Pokemon's as possible.

Just in case anyone else is having the same trouble that I had, Stone Throw is a skill that will hit flying creatures that are weak to earth, or require an earth attack to imprism.

The rng for baby shiva must be really low. Only seen one and now my entire team is lvl 30. Think I'm a bit over liked now.

I gave up, tried for two hours last night....wanted Bablizz (baby Shiva) for Chill ability but got that penguin thing instead.
At that point I would just restart the game and choose to fight Shiva and get one for free. Level 30 is way too strong for that point in the game and will make the game not fun at all to play. I'm on chapter 16 and I've just reached level 30.

Game sold 100k between the two platforms in Japan. Not great but not bomba either.

Pokemon stories are largely ignorable and inoffensive. This, not so much.

I think this game might take the cake for having the most unlikeable protagonists in an SE game ever. By design at least.

I mean it's all personal preference regarding this for me but Pokemon story/pacing kills me every time for being offensively droll and treating me like I'm 4.

I have no real problems at all with the story in this game and will take it over a Pokemon style story ten out of ten times.

I also like Lann and Reynn.

Probably posted already but the Downloadable Content menu is finally working (Vita here).

Got Secret Memory (Tearoom Girl thing), and Miney and Mo Tickets for Coliseum

Is that really even possible.. they are like the tropiest of anime tropes all wrapped in one.

I have no idea how you could like the main characters after beating the story.

Again I'll take inoffensive and light hearted over contrived twists and melodrama any day. Weird coming from the guy who posts in so many CW threads...

Oh boy. I think I was lvl 12 when I started. I don't think I'm going to restart at this point.

What I am concerned with is catching additional mirages. Since I'm over lvled I will most likely kill mirages in 1 hit.

I'll take inoffensive and light-hearted too, I just don't think Pokemon is either. They often try to punch above their weight but because they refuse to trust their players to be able to handle something heavier/more complicated they fumble and make their stories boring and take all the weight out of whatever they try to do.

I'd love a light-hearted Intervention quest style consistency.

I have played about an hour and a half. Sloooooooow to start so far. I have classic menu, active battle, and battle speed at 5 and the combat is not bad. The humor in this game is the surprising thing so far. Much better than I thought it would be.

More about the late game music spoiler from earlier.

Okay so the director of this game is the director of Sigma Harmonics, and apparently the tea time girl is from Sigma Harmonics too. So that explains the song being in World of Final Fantasy.

No, it must be literally impossible to like Reynn and Lann. You know, because it's unthinkable that anyone could possibly like anime or anime tropes.

I'm enjoying them a lot, tropes and all. I'd even say I like them because of, not in spite of, how "anime" they are. I love the over-the-top anime-ness and melodrama that Square Enix games are so singularly good at nailing, and Reynn and Lann are very good examples of that. If it's not your thing, that's cool, but to question whether it's possible for anyone else to like something because you don't is absurd.

Beaten the story?

This game is closer to Tales with its characters and use of tropes than Final Fantasy tbh

Depends on your play style really. Personally, I love grinding in games till I'm OP and stomping my way through everything. ;)

Is there anyone that doesn't like this? If so, why? I have the LE shrink wrapped and I'm on the fence.

I think it's just me ha ha.

I played it for two hours and gave up. I despised the characters. Wouldn't be so bad if they were side characters but I mean the main protagonists, especially Lann who is insufferable. I just couldn't stand the thought of 40 hours with him. Most of the rest of the dialogue and cast are pretty dreadful too imo.

If you're in it for story, characters and dialogue I would leave it wrapped. If you want to play it for the battle sytem and cameos it may be worth it. Depends on how big a fan you are I guess.

I feel opposite. Once the game really picks up, the dialogue is amazing. It's charming as fuck and funny. At least on the English dub side of things. I loved the game, just completed it today. Plenty of content left to explore another time. Game is well worth the purchase.

Yeah, before the game released I was afraid that the dialogue would only be funny for the targeted demographic but I must say I am really enjoying it :)

Does the save option in the menu become usable at some point? It seems really odd to have it greyed out all the time, and only have the save crystals actually let you save.

Only being able to save at save crystals seems like a really bad idea for a game like this.

I feel like the characters are so inoffensive that I'm not sure how you're so bothered by them. They're pretty much humorous like 90% of the time in a cute and charming world. Is there a reason you're against them acting that way when the whole game is meant to have that kind of tone?

Not sure why you would *want* a non-existent plot like Pokemon. You could just skip the cutscenes if that's what you're looking for.

Chill only being on two monsters is hot garbage. And one is <1% spawn rate if you don't choose the right option before a boss fight.

It'd also be nice if you had just a few more monster slots. 4/10 are your party, and then you usually have to carry an extra 3-4 for Flutter, Smash, etc. Leaves open too few slots for funsies leveling.

I'm in a really late game part but I got stuck.

I got the Kyubi memento and now I can transfig Tama. My next objective is in the Tea's Room but there is nothing there. I have to keep doing the Intervetion quests?

PS: I already defeated Leviathan, Diablos, Bahamut and Odin.

You need Shiva, Ramuh and Ifrit too. Go to the Coliseum and fight anything until Ifrit and Shiva pop up, then do a couple more rounds until Ramuh unlocks his fight so you can capture him.

I guess we just have different tastes in regards to humour.

I personally didn't find any of it funny just painful. Lann getting word meanings wrong, saying "dude" a lot and having ridiculous exaggerated animations just did nothing for me. The rest of the cast I could tolerate though I didn't like the sister or Tama's way of speaking much, it grated on me quite quickly.

Maybe I'm just getting older and more picky or jaded XD I am finding Japanese RPGs and certain anime harder and harder to enjoy now days and they used to be my favourite genre. Too many of them are kind of emo, cliched or pervy for my tastes and I guess WOFF humour and characters aren't really my kind of thing anymore. Shame as it interested me a lot more than FFXV which I think I will avoid.

Kind of rambled a bit there but how that clears that up ha ha. Going to trade WOFF in for Trails of Cold Steel II I think which comes out here soon. The first one was surprisingly amazing.

I am ut to chapter 8 noe, and not feeling this game. I fast forward every cut scene because the story does not engage me at all and since there are so many creatures to capture no one feels more special than the others, and I just swap them when I feel like it. But my main problem is the very narrow and short areas in the game. It makes FF13 seem like an open world game. with the smplistic graphics I really thought this game had open world map or huge interconnecting maps ala FF12. Maybe it opens up later, but don't think I finish it, also it didn't get my son hooked as I hoped (since his all into Pokémon right now).

Is it me or does The Phantom Sands have a high encounter rate...?
I can't walk two or three seconds without a random battle triggering.

It's all good but damn never seen it that frequent in the 20 hours in so far.

Just fought the sandsnakes boss and encountered Edgar. Pretty into this game so far. The overarching story is pointless trash but some of the Nameless Girl quests have been cute and fun -- love that Tonberry / Cactuar Conductor / Moogle squad. If I the-met Tama IRL I would the-dropkick her with a quickness.

Really like the transfiguration stuff. I wish it had been more clear early on that each beastie could have multiple SP pools. That is, I had a Black and a White Nakk both in my party for ages until I realized that transfiging one into the other let me explore both trees. Any time you transfigure a Mirage and it changes the cubes on display at the Mirage Board screen, you get a fresh set of SP points as if you had captured that monster and then raised it up. That really took the edge of the obsessive collection-completion aspect, since it's really obvious with some Mirages that you'll be able to transfig something you already have into it instead of capturing it outright.

Really wondering if there's people who have beaten the game that still like the main characters. The game goes out of its way to make sure you don't.

There is a world map but it's almost completely useless and there's basically no point using it. Doesn't really open up.

I just got to Chapter 14...
In Edgar's castle, using Magitek Armor, while teamed up with Squall, to take out a Mako Reactor.

I love everything about this!

I finished the game. I loved the BIG SPOILER
Fake ending. The trophy "The End?" was amazing!

I actually liked the story, definitely not aweful like Game Informer said.

Every time I unlock a blank space I hear Taylor Swift. So I start singing it. Then I'll move on and fight some more. Then unlock another blank space and sing it again. I just had my roommate yell at me for getting the song stuck in his head.

Thanks Square!
