Xbox will no longer have permanent console exclusives going forward according to Jez Corden

They need to do something to get Xbox fans to transfer to PC with their GamePass subscriptions otherwise there will be major fallout.
They started that already.

If you pay the highest grade Gamepass on Console, you automatically get given PC Gamepass rights. So at least for the highest tier customers, Xbox already has plans to transfer them to PC.

xbox has no console exclusives period

playstation has no exclusives that I personally care about enough to buy a system for

Kojima owns the DS IP now.

Technically, Destiny and Marathon count I guess. They're Bungie (and by association Sony) IP's which are/will be published on Xbox.

True. Destiny was already on Xbox, but Bungie was acquired with the understanding that they would remain multiplatform. This is not the equivalent of PlayStation following Microsoft. There is definitely a "red line" and Sony executives are not saying that every game will be handled on a "game by game basis" as to whether they will be on Xbox. Everything is on the table for Xbox. Just not the case for PlayStation.

Sega will return
ms is just waiting for Sega and Nintendo to announce their consoles so it can port everything and exit the market quietly.
MS knows, after all, they are partners with Sega and are transferring know-how, data security, etc.

Xbox just Dreamcasted. That's life, I guess.

I see no big future for them besides making a few bucks with some good games. Cloud? Maybe in a decade. Maybe.

Cool, I hope it will at least pay for new Xbox HW, since that's what I prefer. Otherwise I don't give a single shit and I think its generally good strategy.

Its beyond obvious this was coming but I don't understand the reasoning on why it isn't the case yet. A good amount of their studios were literally multiplat already..... Doesn't seem like they have to change much at all

Is it just pride holding them back from the inevitable?
It's the stock market, companies like MS don't admit defeat, they will port everything to their former competitors and tell shareholders that everything is fine, but this ''fine'' is literally the company leaving the market as a console manufacturer.

Everything from them will be day 1 multiplatform in a couple of years. Microsoft have nothing to gain by having games exclusive to xbox anymore. The brand is too weak and actually hinders the potential performance of games. That's why indiana Jones has such a short window. Doom is day 1. So it outer worlds 2. Microsoft know there's no benefit in having them exclusive to xbox. The console battle between playstation and xbox is officially over.

After how Indiana Jones performed expect that change to be sooner than later. May even see a few delays to ensure they launch day 1 on everything.

This is the future of market. The hardware no longer matters due to production costs. All us old guys just need to accept it. The “generations” of console exclusives is done in the next decade. RIP GameCube, PS2 and XBOX era :(

Sound more like the era of Xbox console is dead.
That's definitely what is sounds like. I don't have a mind for business so what I say is probably all wrong but it feels like they just threw in the towel.

There was an interview about a year or or so ago where Phil Spencer said that they aren't going to outsell Sony by releasing great games...or something along those lines.

Why is that important?! Isn't the goal to improve yourself instead of being #1? If you get to a point where you are more successful than how you were during your previous generation isn't that a win regardless of how the competition is doing?

I'm so confused by their strategy.

Mlb the show? Death Stranding.
Kojima bought the Death Stranding IP recently, reason why it now got a Xbox version, and MLB The Show, while developed by a Playstation 1st party studio, MLB has a saying (Probably related to the MLB licence) cuz it was MLB decision to make an Xbox version, MLB also publishes the Xbox version of the game.

Exclusives are alive and well on PS5 and Switch still. All it would take is someone to come in with exclusives and wipe the floor with the current manufacturers if they made everything multiplatform.

Seems like the obvious move with the direction MS is headed with Xbox. Think a lot of people already had it figured out before Jez confirmed.

What will be interesting is the direction MS will take Xbox in terms of hardware. Maybe offer some sort of super console at a premium? Rumored handheld? Maybe stop hardware altogether? Will be interesting to see.

That is why they only have the transfer ready for the most valuable paying customers. The standard Gamepass customers are not valuable enough to worry about. They have already considered the lower tier customers as being lost. Xbox considers "Xbox Fans" as those who pay for Ultimate. No one else matters enough.

Ultimate is already required for console now if you want all of the Gamepass games, having ultimate now doesn’t mean they will be willing to move from console to PC.

Their decision will decide the fate of Gamepass.

If you aren’t counting every single W10/11 on the planet.
When you go to that argument you admit that Xbox the console is dead and Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, and us killed it.

You give away the argument, by giving way too much ground. You prove his point.

Talking about Sega I thought it was cool how Xbox saved Shenmue 2 back in the day.

Xbox may be a fentanyl user sleeping under the bridge now but he was a star athlete in highschool. Someone stil remembers.
