Yeah he has had just a string of shitty movies for what feels like forever.
So that we don't have people disappointed with tomorrow's results, that $130M would include Monday as well.
Man of Steel would have been close to $129M going by modern box office tracking. No studio would bother to separate out that $12M Thursday gross today, even if the previews started at 7pm (which I think was the case with MOS).

Adult comics been where it's at. None of these comics movies are for kids, and haven't been since 2000. The actual comics they're based on haven't been for kids since the mid-80s.
You can take kids to 'em, sure. But nobody making 'em gives fuck one about whether it's actually for them.

That's a real weird one, though, since those tickets were all bought by Wal-Mart as a cross-promotion and then sold through their stores. We never got confirmation on how many of those tickets actually got to consumers.
On that vein, Matrix Reloaded should probably be retroactively given the OD record in 2003. Shit was contentious as hell back then when its $5M on Thursday previews put it over Spider-Man 1, heh.

Pretty sure Marvel is going to keep putting bank to their formula as to what we've seen in Avengers, Captain America, etc (PG-13) and going for $1billion+

I can name maybe 10 superheros. I'd never heard of Deadpool until I read about it on Gaf. Then my wife who's knowledge of comics is even less then mine saw the trailer, and told me we should go see it. We're both in our mid fifties.
We're going because it looks like a good move.
Edit: Just mentioned to her that Ryan is nude in the film, and before I could finished pouring my morning coffee, she bought tickets online for tonight. lol

I wonder how much of that is because Zoolander 2 is terrible, or if it's because it's opening across from Deadpool.
Considering virtually all of the DC and Marvel superhero comics are PG to PG-13 equivalent, it makes sense, though. They're staying true to the comics. Movie Deadpool is way worse mature-content-wise than the vast majority of Deadpool comics.

This movie has perfect marketing. Send out lots of warnings to movie theaters about how this movie is a "hard-R". Market it towards kids. Then deny all responsibility when tons of them buy tickets online/early and try to sneak in to the local multiplex.

This is hilarious! I stopped reading the X books around the early 90's. I just remember Deadpool as that shitty "Extreme" character Liefeld came up with. Guess Marvel did a lot with him since then.

That's not going to work this weekend when the theater is sold out. I'm sure we'll spend all day ejecting people from the theater.

A 10 year old who watched Spidey 1 in 2002 is now 24. It's clear that those kids didn't fall out of love with comic book movies as they aged, and these are the people filling up the theatres for Deadpool right now. You don't NEED the kids to have a successful superhero movie based on a Marvel property.
Of course, allowing more people into the theatre to watch your movie is always a good thing, but I honestly believe Deadpool would be doing far worse if it was PG-13. There's just a lack of appeal there.
Now bring on the R-rated Wolverine movie already.

I was listening to a VFX podcast with one of the guys who worked at Blur Studios. He mentioned that Deadpool was made mostly because of the test footage released years ago. The reaction to that test convinced the head honchos to go ahead with the movie.
Deadpool is touching himself this weekend. God damn glad this movie is going to be a massive success.
