Habs have the least amount of goals in the league 5 on 5 and the second worst home record of the playoff teams. Don't know what stats you're looking at.

Not saying Caps win because of this. Just saying that the only chance the Habs have is hoping the Caps take a lot of penalties so they can exploit their shitty PK with their #2 PP.

was looking at nothing more than head to head play this seas, which was 3-2 for Montreal if I'm reading it right from tsn's matchup page.

dont worry though forza, u dont have to educate me on Montreals chances, I know its one hell of a longshot. Still fucking pumped to see this series start though, playoff hockey is what its all about.

hey where's manics at btw? didnt i make a bet with him a few months ago that the Habs would shit all over the leafs by seasons end? i should look this up, cant remember if it was an avatar bet or something...

I think each team won 2 games but I agree dude. Should be fun and that's why they play the games. Anything can happen.

The previous page's discussion about Hedman and defencemen development makes me appreciate Tyler Myers season even more than I already did.

scissor knows whats up. BUT THAT IS NOTHING NEW
not sure why no one is giving the preds a prayer - it's pretty much the perfect recipe for a chance at an upset: preds have better goaltending, better D (debatable before the hawks injuries), a better coach, and have played grind-it-out playoff-style hockey all season long. the hawks obviously have a huge edge up front.

have to think the hawks would have loved to get the avs instead. actually the setup reminds me a lot of 02-03 when that final det-chi game cost the wings the #1 seed and a weak #8 opponent, and they got stuck with the ducks in the 7 spot. i think we all know what happened next.

...oh shiiiiiit preds in 4?!?!

Where the hell were all these fairweather Kings fans last season..

Who says we're fans?

In my case, I'm used to watching the Pacific Division (you ought to be too). LA will not be easy to deal with by no means. LA also has a knack of being upset masters in previous playoff runs Of course those teams looked far different than the current one, but I think the idea is still applicable due to the age of the current team. They'll either be amazing, or god awful. Plus, LOLuonGOAL shows his nerves and lack of talent in the NHL playoffs (even if he was good in the Olympics).

I'm just thankful the Habs are playing against Washington (Pittsburgh would have been good too), just because you know it's going to be exciting, fast hockey, and Washington is even better 'cause we rarely play against them. We've never even met them in the playoffs. Playing against New Jersey or fucking Boston again would have been sad and boring.

Congrats to Poch for manhandling all of us in the GAF league. The race was over sooner than the Leafs' playoff chances.

(1) Washington vs (8) Montreal - Caps in 4.
(2) New Jersey vs (7) Philadelphia - Devils in 7. I want the Flyers to win, but they've consistently fucked up all year long and I have no reason to believe they won't fall apart by the end of this series. Unless Brodeur beats them to the punch. :lol
(3) Buffalo vs (6) Boston - Buffalo in 6. Ryan Miller baby!
(4) Pittsburgh vs (5) Ottawa - Pens in 5.

(1) San Jose vs (8) Colorado - Unlike last year, this is the perfect first round opponent for San Jose to get their nerves until control. Sharks in 6.
(2) Chicago vs (7) Nashville - Chicago in 7.
(3) Vancouver vs (6) Los Angeles - Vancouver in 5.
(4) Phoenix vs (5) Detroit - Wings in 6. See I picked an upset.

I was referring to the people who have only just started posting in here recently, not referencing the regulars :P

Agreed on LAs calibre though. Disagree on Luongo, he knows how to work under pressure now. It pains me to say this but.. He has about as much chance of buckling as San Jose as a chance of getting swept in the first round. It won't happen simply because of what happened last season. Olympics proved he can perform under strenuous circumstances, now it's time to deliver.

Some dude on HF boards created an NHL'94 styled playoff bracket:

No way, there were several times I overtook him for the lead. He just grabbed it back every time. I gotta get better goaltending next year...

Sorry :(

How about this, it will be Dustin Brown's "introduction" into the League, as he will finally get to showcase his skills and he will end up scoring the Series winner during Game 6 in OT at the Staples Center...greatest Kings goal since Adam Deadmarsh against the Wings.

The playoffs is the time for the power forwards from North America to shine. Come the postseason, players like Deadmarsh and Brown are money. Also helps that Brown seems to have found his game to the nth degree here in the last six games or so.

Fairweather nothing. I've been a Kings fan since Glen Murray's double OT slapshot from the blueline beat Patrick Roy in game 6. I've slogged through 8 years of crap teams and late season collapses under Andy Murray and Marc Crawford. I'VE WATCHED DEREK ARMSTRONG TAKE FIRST UNIT POWERPLAY TIME GODDAMMIT.

The last time the Kings were in the playoffs I was in high school. If you want to find someone who bleeds purple and black on this board, I'm that guy.

Finally got my computer working just in time for the madness. I'm feeling the Sharks in 5 that many are posting here. Colo hasn't been playing well lately but are one of those teams that can randomly come out and surprise.

I'll be at Sharks game 2 on Friday, taking a friend to their first hockey game for the 3rd time this season.

My prediction:
Washington Capitals over the Chicago Blackhawks for the cup.
That is all.

Teams I don't really want to win:
-Canucks
-Penguins
-Flyers
-Bruins
Anybody else is fine.

Hockey Night in Liberia
My personal quest to collect photos of all 30 NHL teams is only half complete, but it has already led to several interesting cultural exchanges.

A man wearing a Philadelphia Flyers jersey stared blankly at me as I slowly shouted "H-O-C-K-E-Y!"

For him, the primary allure is that his thick, long-sleeved shirt is brightly coloured white and orange, and doesn't have any holes or pit-stains.

A young boy wearing a Habs jersey, likely donated by a disenchanted fan after last season's performance, seemed bewildered as the crazy white lady in front of him tried to mime hockey by sliding her feet, swinging her arms and talking about "shooting" (not my most brilliant moment in a country still recovering from almost two decades of civil war).

I wish I could donate cable for the playoffs. They don't know what they're missing.

Do you really want to disappoint those poor dudes in the Habs and Sharks jerseys?

Cheers Bish, seriously intriguing article and photo gallery.

Hmm.. unlike last year, I will post some predictions. I don't know how accurate I'll be, but I'll go with my guts.
West

San Jose vs Colorado in 5 there is no reason that San Jose should choke at all against the avs. None at all. This is no Anaheim team. I'm no San Jose fan, but I think they can get it done quickly.
Chicago vs Nashville in 5 I know goaltending is an issue for Chicago, but I think they can get it done in 5. Nashville is hardworking, but I just don't think they have what it takes to stand up to Chicago.
Vancouver vs Los Angeles in 6 I live in Vancouver, I'm a Vancouver fan (have been since the days of the 94 cup run, and the horrid late 90s). If they get the D that they need (I'm not worried about Luongo) Vancouver should be able to win. However, I don't think LA is going to go easy, and I expect them to be in every game. I would not be surprised if LA won the series.
Phoenix vs Detroit in 7 Yeah, I think Detroit will win, but I'm not so sure if it will be as easy as some people think. However, I can't bet against the playoff hardened wings.

East

Washington vs Montreal in 5 could be a sweep, but I think Montreal will find a way to win one. Probably game 4.
New Jersey vs Philadelphia in 7 That's right I'm picking the upset. Brodeur has always been good/great, but I think he might slide a bit this year.
Buffalo vs Boston in 6 Bruins can't score. In the end though, I don't know a whole lot about either team, so whatever.
Pittsburgh vs Ottawa in 5 I can't see the Penguins slacking off here. I'm sure they will step up their game.

Apparently TSN's Bob McKenzie picked LA to win over the Canucks !
McKenzie is a smart guy. Even though I've picked the Nucks, I really think the Kings could not only take that series, but go even deeper than that. They're scary.
