Serious question, what does a 1 game more in the playoffs mean from a financial standpoint?
tv rights, tickets, and merchandising etc.
And do they actually get prize money like in the chapions league. Because in the championsleague if you advance a round you get a few millions, and a few goals get you a few millions as well.
Teams only play 41 regular season home games. If you get in the playoffs, you get at least 2 games, that's 5% more games and almost guaranteed sold out seats, at higher prices. If you get in the second round, you've had played 4-6 playoff home games, and that's 10-15% more games. Teams get all home game ticket receipts. If it's on national TV, the money just goes to the league and its divided equally to all 30 teams. Merchandise is also split evenly to all 30 teams. I think teams get money if they have a local radio broadcast and if they do a local TV broadcast.
There is a playoff pool of money that is also split based on how you do, here is what it was in 2006:
Best Record in NBA: $288,421
Best Record in Conference, $252,369 each: $504,737
Second Best Record in Conference, $202,842 each: $405,684
Third Best Record in Conference, $151,421 each: $302,842
Fourth Best Record in Conference, $119,000 each: $238,000
Fifth Best record in Conference, $99,158 each: $198,316
Sixth Best Record in Conference, $67,632 each: $135,263
Teams Participating in First Round, $149,243 each: $2,387,895
Teams Participating in Conference Semifinals, $177,579 each: $1,420,632
Teams Participating in Conference Finals, $293,447 each: $1,173,789
Losing Team, NBA Finals: $1,173,474
Winning Team, NBA Finals: $1,770,947
