AMERICAN HORROR STORY: Coven |OT| When witches don't fight, we burn....

I think the ax man appearing had more to do with her new power of sight. Even though she is blind she was able to see his outline and why would he attack her instead of Zoe and the other girls if he was now able to manifest himself?

He was only able to manifest himself with Cordelia until Zoe did the release spell. At least thats what I was getting from the whole exchange.

Confirmed it wasn't voodoo girls that did the acid burn in this episode. I didn't think it would be them as it's too obvious. I still think whoever did it knew Cordelia would gain these powers.

Could be another coven of witches. People who knew victims of Hank who wants revenge.

Fiona wouldn't have blinded her own daughter, would she? I forget the episode now, but did they establish that Fiona was some place else during the blinding?

Everything was just great
Hank being a complete a wtichhunter AND working for voodoo queen took me by complete surprise. When zoe was saying how the ranks of the coven were thinning I assumed it was some kind of axeman curse, not a inside job roughing everyone up. I can't wait for Fiona to find out and rip him limb from limb

Bits of the episode did seem a little sloppy. What are they going to do with Spalding now? And they're supposed to just keep Kyle locked up and Madison bed bound and expect nobody else to realise?

I think everyone is correct, except for the whole rule-carrying thing from Season 1 (I watched murder house also, and there doesn't seem to be indication that this would happen).

I think it's a combination of things:

1) He was "awoken" via Ouija board.
2) Cordelia can now "see" him because of her new ability.
3) He pesters Cordelia because he needs to be released but can't hurt her. Even if he could, he thinks she's the only one that can free him, so he wouldn't.

He stated that he was "trapped inside these four ugly walls," so it seems likely his spirit was relegated to that specific room. And why not? We don't know the spell that was used to trap him.

That episode was kind of a mess, but it seems to be setting up the plot threads for the rest of the season, so perhaps a necessary mess.

Have they explained why Marie so desperately wants the Salem witches dead? I know there's the longstanding rivalry and all that, but why, specifically? Is it just because the Salem witches learned magic from Tituba (though that doesn't really make sense - how do you learn an apparently innate gift?) and the voodoo witches are pissed about that? I was liking where they were going with Marie, but for her to have broken the truce and be actively having innocent witches murdered seems odd, based on what we know at the moment.

Cordelia's bland as fuck husband being a secret witchhunter was a surprise (it seems odd that he's working for Marie Laveau, though. Fiona is going to fuck him up good and proper when she finds out. Can't wait.

Also, lord jesus Meryl Streep's daughters can't act for toffee, can they? (that was one of them in the 1919 Axeman-killing coven, right?). Hollywood nepotism at work.

Ya'll expecting Fiona to be the one to wreck the witch hunter, my money is on Cordelia wrecking his shit. She's giving in to her darker side.

I think that was probably the weakest episode of the season. It was trying to do the whole "look at all this stuff happening" thing that previous episodes had, but the energy and momentum just wasn't there so it ended up feeling like the big pile of mud Frances Conroy is regenerating in.

Resurrecting every person that has died in present day is kind of taking away the stakes here.

Its also kind of awkward that there are two different resurrection styles at play here: the one Zoe and Madison did on Kyle and Misty's much cleaner method of resurgence. It seems weird that such a flawed resurrection spell would even exist if resurgence is a known power. Or maybe it is actually the exact same thing except Kyle is all messed up because he is made up of a bunch of different people's body parts.

It's all speculation but I'm thinking that spells are essentially the same thing as inherent abilities, only spells are sort of the work around for witches who don't have that power innately but can use because it taps into the same power source. Which makes sense, given misty asked Zoe to help her out, as "Death" has apparently settled too deeply into Madison. I imagine there is a limit to her abilities given the extent of composition, but then again, swamp mud.

I do agree, though, that this episode left a lot to be desired. When it was over, I was like "that was it? Really? It just ended there?" They did unravel a few threads but ultimately ended up as one of those setup episodes and thus, a dud momentum wise.

Cordelia and Fiona were at the bar when it happened. Cordelia went to the bathroom and that's when it happened right? Really don't think it would be Fiona when she has something to lose now that Cordelia has this power.

I've thought about this, Fiona was with her drinking and just needed to follow her into the bathroom.

Cordelia and Fiona were at the bar when it happened. Cordelia went to the bathroom and that's when it happened right? Really don't think it would be Fiona when she has something to lose now that Cordelia has this power.

I've thought about this as well. Though who else would have the knowledge and motive?

Sorry folks, I'm a day behind.

Bad episode. Worst of the season so far, no question.

The last couple of episodes were so tight and focused. This one, on the other hand, was flabby, with all sorts of extraneous bullshit added. I hate it when this show goes off on dumb tangents, like the Anne Frank horseshit in Asylum. This Axeman bullshit feels eerily similar to that. It's just garbage filler.

Plus, no Kathy Bates. Suuuuuuuuuuucks.

Why are we thinking that Myrtle wasn't the acid thrower? She was wearing the same robes at the hospital if we are to believe Fiona's vision of the events. Are we assuming she was innocent just because Queenie helped frame her with the acid burns on the hands?

When she asked if she helped frame a guilty woman or frame an innocent woman, Fiona never answered her either way.

It's possible that Myrtle was indeed guilty and Fiona was just using the acid burns to pile on evidence and sway the council.

Plus there was the guy at the hospital who accosted Fiona saying it was like she threw the acid on her own daughter or something to that effect. And we know that Myrtle has a power over the vernacular, perhaps she controlled that patient to say that to Fiona.

Myrtle was in town spying on Fiona we know that much is true. If Fiona truly believed that she was the one who splashed the acid; she just piled on a bunch of 'evidence' to sway the council, like mentioning the strange disappearance of Madison and then the acid burns.

Yes, because nobody fucking realizes shit in this house and apparently after the very first little family dinner, Cordelia and Fiona fucked off and completely ignored the 4 teenage girls living at their school. Like one of them died and has been rotting in the attic.

Just saw the most recent episode...and it felt more like a bridge episode than a "shit's going down" episode but that's not really a criticism as those episodes are necessary.

My real question is how they decide who gets priority in the intro credits. Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange seem to get recognition at the end through the "With Kathy Bates..And Jessica Lange" titles, but how did they decide the other credits? Why is Evan Peters given a title credit when he hasn't done shit but moan all season?

But it's real quality moaning.

What time is it?

Oh, that's right... American Horror Story time.

Um.... I guess this is the Axeman?

Nvm, he's the Axeman.

Hey, 20s witches.

Oh hey, women's suffraget movement? They gonna die.

Yeah bitches, Julius Ceasar that mothafucka. Et tu, Axeman?

This intro still freaks me out.

Zoe is stealing Madison's stuff. Of course.

Absinthe pact. Sure.

Oh my God, a fucking Ouija board. These girls are full of great ideas.

This is the most helpful and forthcoming ghost ever.

Despite being a terrible person, Lange still brings the feels.

This doctor looks like he's five years old. Or like Ralph Machio. Fucking Karate kid.

Zoe is a typical teenager. Forgot about the traumatized Frankenstein running around the city.

"Release" sounds vaguely sexual.

Ohhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiet, Spaulding's blown!

What great acting by Emma Roberts.

Oh poor blind Lana Banana. Clairvoyance is a bitch. Her eyes are freaky.

I bet the Axeman offs what's his face, Hank.

Soon enough! Delia will know the truth! Just keep touching her Lange... Yessssss.

Um, what. Interrogation time. Whoa! Graduated to torture fast!

Lol, this dudes thoughts. Fucking nasty and lol.

Oh, Zoe is now a great detective.

Misty! Yeah!

Frankenkyle! I don't care much for you. Oh... Kay, bathing him. Some of you are happy I assume. PTSD flashes. Damn.

Frankenass is losing his shit. Poor Stevie.

Hank and Angela Bassett whaaaaaaaaaat?

Getting Kyle dressed musta been awkward. Ew, Emma.

New meme idea: Scumbag Zoe. Only calls misty when she needs somebody resurrected. Refuses to hang otherwise.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww this is.... Weird.

Lol, Voodoo Taliban.

Witch hunter!? He married the witch and was around for six years. What a shitty hunter.

So redhead was a firestarter. And wow, this dude is an asshole. Not surprised he got torched.

My god, Angela is amazing with this fucking monologue.

Ohhhhhhh shiiiiiiet, this is not gonna end well for Hank.

Misty, fuck all these crazy people. Run away with me.

Misty spittin' some cold truth here.

Oh shit the Axeman re-cometh.

Lucky for Fiona that she has amnesia. Well, this is pessimistic, black forever.

Axeman is creepy.

Sara Paulson has a hell of a scream.

Zoe just released an undead serial killer upon the world. Oh my God, zoe you are terrible and make poor choices.

Oh my god, he's gonna meet up with Fiona and bang her, isn't he.

This episode made me decide to give Zoe a reprieve. Until she does something really fucking stupid again.

Misty and Zoe resurrecting Madison was the best part. Well, second best after Frankenkyle breaking Stevie.

What does this axeman have to do with anything? He should have just walked off into the night and out of the story. And surely a witch would know a ghost.

I am also disappointed Fiona is turning into a sickly softie, I really want to see her go full bad ass on the witch hunter and the voodoo lady.

This shit would not stand at Hogwarts. McGonagall would put those messy teens in line in seconds.

Why was Madison's experience of death "black forever" but Axeman after death became a ghost?
Because this show doesn't care about internal logic or making sense and is just about throwing WTF scene after WTF scene at you. And it's awesome for it.

I'd imagine that it may get explained
Probably has something to do with the fact axeman said he was friend with the angel of death or something

Jessica Lange gets what Jessica Lange wants.

She wanted to do a musical number and have a singing back story in Asylum. She got it.

She wanted a romance in Coven. She got it.

I agree about both of those. Especially Madison.

But your comment about Spalding made me realise Ryan did another interview after this episode.

Obviously, Spalding has been caught and tortured by the girls. What’s next for him?

The Spalding story is obviously he’s crossed a line. He didn’t kill Madison but what he did to defile her body. So the girls find that out and have to take revenge on him. They have to make him pay for his dastardly necrophilia and bad fashion outfits.

So I guess they're going to do something but it sounds like it might be.....a bit of a loose thread that they're going to cut off. He could become a double agent of sorts for the girls......or maybe become a TRIPLE AGENT or some shit. Maybe. I don't know, I love theorising.

This also talks about how Stevie Nicks is written into the series but it is kind of spoilerish so maybe skip those questions. She will be appearing in Episode #
....10....

I assume it's to do with pay and contracts. Maybe it's more to sign on as a regular cast member? I agree with you - it's odd. Gabourey Sidibe and Angela Bassett have appeared in every episode thus far and are listed as guest stars.

It really makes me wonder if they're going to shift the tone and the context in a BIG way after the break if those ladies are listed as guest stars only.
