Could you suggest an alternative that would fit into the story / setting?

A bar. They're probably much more likely to get roofied at a club if they wanted to do that storyline. Most sexual assaults on college campuses happen with people that know the perpetrator, not some random dude in a corner ready to gang rape you.

Again, not a huge deal, just seemed a bit lazy.

I think house party would have been the only other alternative with a similar setup. The girls had to get separated but not so much that Zoe wouldn't have been able to find Madison.

Do frat guys really go to house parties in a bus?

I watched this last night after a friend kept telling me it was amazing. Show is too cheap for me. Every other scene is filmed either at an angle or with fish eye lens. Also, the overuse of sound effects and music is distracting..

Are there any other good horror series on television right now?

The fish eyes lens and dutch angles still sort of bother me, but it's part of the ambiance. It's supposed to be Excessive with a capital e.

And no, I don't think so. The Strain at FX should be fairly horror-like. Same with Helix at SyFy, I think. There are a few more in the pipeline that are gaining traction.

Things that bugged me about the episode:

1) Taissa's character fell in love with Evan's character after like 5 minutes of conversation.
2) Taissa went from zero to murderer without so much as a second thought.
3) There were way too many dutch angles in this episode.
4) Way too much obvious exposition. I'll let it slide since this is the first episode, but it was really obvious, even for a first episode.

Still, really entertaining, but those first two narrative leaps are pretty iffy.

Great news for them
Means they were over the 3.85m premier of last series

I hadn't really thought of this but it was quite the leap

Really liked the first episode can't wait to see more. I agree the powers are very much x-men style. I am curious how the head mistresses powers work, the potions and such. Would that potion have really put her mother in a coma as she said?

She's probably being subconsciously influenced by something. Maybe.

Ooh she could be. Or she could be really fucked up.
I still see her as her character from Murder House but really we don't know anything about her and she could be a nasty person that isn't as innocent as she comes across

edit;
FX’s American Horror Story: Coven launched Wednesday night to the anthology franchise’s biggest audience ever. The debut was seen by 5.5 million viewers, up 44 percent from last year’s American Horror Story: Asylum. The episode also delivered a 3.0 rating among adults 18-49 — up roughly 90 percent from last fall and topping everything on broadcast last night except ABC’s Modern Family. If you add the show’s first encore, AHS had a total of 7.8 million.

Peppered with humorous dialogue and structured with surprising discipline for the typically feverish horror-drama, AHS:C also garnered a rave from EW critic Melissa Maerz (and be sure to check out Darren Franich’s detailed recap here).

God's had his chance.
It was not bad at all. The whole gang rape scene went on a little long with all the O faces and such but for the most part... pretty good.

Have to agree with the obvious exposition tho.. like every scene was pretty heavy handed.

And if someone doesn't make a "Supremes" joke this season i'm throwing the whole thing away as a missed opportunity.

Since Emma Roberts flip that bus, I bet Jessica Lange is gonna think that she's the next supreme and kill her.

Also, did anyone gif Emma's shower scene at the end?

Tissa also practically looks exactly the same as she did in the first season, so I feel like her character isn't much different.

I really thought that Romeo + Juliet homage was cheesy.

That was a promising start.

I wonder what Cordelia's power is? Something to do with plants, maybe?

Honestly though the best thing about the whole thing was Frances Conroy's character rocking the Grace Coddington hair and the Diana Vreeland voice. So campy, I love it.

I liked the episode, but there is one thing that bugged me: When she is banging the frat guy to death, don't hospitals have the vital info at the nurses station? Wouldn't they see that he was flatlining and run in there?

I haven't seen the first episode yet. Although I feel like as soon as I get around to it I will be severely disappointed that it is not Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Being able to fuck people to death is the worst. Power. Ever. It's potential applications are so narrow. I really hope her versatility broadens as the show goes on.

I enjoyed the first episode. I thought the whole "fuck your partner dead" thing was a little iffy, but I'm already hooked. Kathy bates is an evil bitch.

That was my issue with it as well... Really narrow scope.

Taissa's character is so much more tolerable this season. I did like her in The Bling Ring, oddly, even if she didn't do much.

I still can't believe Evan Peters is dating Emma Roberts.

I doubt she'd have such a focus if she's just Succubus Girl. We'll definitely see more, I would guess.

The episode didn't grab me as much as it did some of y'all. I think I will have to rewatch it.

And the
serial killer who had mommy issues
in season 2 was ok? This show has always been about playing to tropes and stereotypes.

Sleepy Hollow has a few dang good horror scenes.

I didn't say it was okay :p. It's one thing to play with tropes, cliches, and stereotypes, another to use them as a crutch. Again, not a big deal, just sort of lazy.
