Amiibo (Nintendo Figurines) - Wallets be Damned, Buying Them All!

LOL some of these will definitely become really rare. Figure collectors are salivating at these.

These aren't ordinary figures though.

I'm sure Nintendo would like to avoid a situation where people are unable to purchase their favorite Amiibos for Smash use.

Amiibo Kirby will go well with the Tsumu Tsumu Kirby set:

I'm surprised people think they'll sell all that well, cause i don't really think they will.
I'll definitely be buying though (if available in my country).

Nintendo should release free bite sized games on the EShop that require amiibos. It would add more value to them, and could get people to purchase ones they wouldn't have.

Howuch info can these amiibos hold? If I use the same amiiboa for three different games wouldn't that be a lot of data for NFC?

Pure speculation time going off the following picture.

Let us assume that this shows all the data on a Amiibo for Smash Bros. Let us also assume that the "new fighting tactics" that Amiibo's learn while fighting are actually dynamically calculated from the type (Speedster) and Attack/Defense/Speed stats.

So!

Level - Known to be capped at 50. 6 bits.
Name - I don't see a way to edit the name so lets assume this is not possible
Type - Not known how many types there are. Assuming 15 so 4 bits
Stats - The attack-stat seems to be about half way the bar so it can be assumed that they cap at 255. 3 * 8 bit = 24 bit
Effects - Not known how many effects there are so let's assume 255. 3 * 8 bit = 24 bit
Specials - Think there are 3 different moves for every slot (correct me if I'm wrong) so 4 * 2 bit = 8 bit

6 + 4 + 24 + 24 + 8 = 66 bits = 8.25 byte.

There probably is more information being stored so let us double it to 16 byte needed for Smash Bros.

Looking at the storage capabilities of NFC tags
http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/wireless/nfc/near-field-communications-tags-types.php

Type 1: 96 byte - 2KByte
Type 2: 48 byte - 2KByte
Type 3: 2KByte
Type 4: up to 32Kbyte

I do not know which type the WiiU Pad / new3DS support but I think it is safe to assume that they cheaped out and went either for a type 1 or 2. Also assuming that they aren't complete assholes and actually go to the limit with storage capacity, I don't see having 1 Amiibo for a ton of different games being a problem.

Then again I could just as well be COMPLETELY wrong.

Great...now I have to buy Peach! :p

I was actually gonna buy her anyway.

Also, will we see a Sonic Amiibo or not? Curious how third parties work in regard to this.

I could see that Peach underwear thing being real. I actually have a Peach figure (came in a set with Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Toad) where her legs and underwear are visible if you flip the figure upside down. I always thought it was odd of Nintendo to allow such...... detail. Then again they did have her in a thong in that one tennis game. Lol

If their use in other games is unlocking non-Super Mario characters in them (like kirby in Mario Party) then I demand NBA Street and SSX Wii U games from EA. I know that's not going to happen but playing as Mario in both of them was the greatest fun I had on my Gamecube.

If they could pull that off, they'd get me to buy all of them. But there's no way it's happening, otherwise they'd have certainly advertised it already.

Based on that IGN article quoted above, from E3, it sounds like a Smash Bros Mario Amiibo only actually stores data for Smash Bros. Other games can read and recognize that it's a Mario Amiibo though.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/12/e3-2014-nintendo-on-amiibo-smash-bros-and-custom-figurines

To get technical, the amiibo is able to store data, and within the full data set you have this much data (mimics a large space with his pointer finger and thumb) which is reserved for Smash Bros. But then you have a subset of data (mimics roughly half of the space from the previous example) that says this is the Mario figure. Smash Bros will use the big chunk of data in the Smash Bros. amiibo, but the other games are able to read that this is a Mario figure through this other set of data that identifies the character, and that is how the characters are able to interact with the Mario amiibo.

When you use the Smash Bros. Mario amiibo in Smash Bros., it's able to do all of the different things designed for that game. When you take that amiibo and you use it in different games, it's not the Smash Bros. Mario, it's just a Mario. It's a more simple use for [amiibo functionality] but it's able to do those two things.

That is a great price for them as well. Although it says shipping is calculated after the order. Can't help but feel that shipping (to the UK) will cost more than the item <_<.

I ordered it with other stuff; but on its own - based on my previous orders (to NL, UK should be similar) - I'm guessing something between 700 and 1100 yen SAL unregistered.

So are these things going to become rare? Would love to buy them all but don't have the extra cash to spend on them.

I told myself I would only get Pikachu and Kirby.
I still don't think Marth and Link look very good.

I got Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Pikachu, Kirby, Villager and Marth.

What is wrong with me.
