BEYOND: Two Souls | SPOILER THREAD | SPOILER everywhere!!!

I think he's still there, but QD used that to focus on the group as a whole instead of just Jodie.

What's the ending that she writes it herself?

Also, how can Ryan die?

They made it so he can only die if you literally go brain dead or are trying to do it. When Nathan has the gun to you next to the black sun, you have to pick the two dick responses (cynical and cold, I believe) and then he will shoot at you. When this happens, control changes to Aiden automatically to either knock teh gun from nathans hand or possess him (couldn't see the color around nathan clearly in the video I was watching). You have to just sit there and do nothing for a good 30-45 seconds. Then Nathan will go to fire on you again and Ryan will jump in the way.

I really like how the game made you think about the characters, they didn't feel like simple puppets as in other games with a choice.

I kept blowing Ryan off throughout the game because I thought he was a douche, and he lied to Jody. Chose "life" at the end but it was a hard choice which took me a while to decide but in the end I figured she deserved a chance at a normal life finally, and she would always see the others eventually anyway when she dies. This ended with her being all alone in a cabin for months crying all the time missing Aiden, and losing her memory. Then it gave me a choice of either Ryan, Zoey, one of the Navajo guys, or staying alone. I chose Ryan because I wanted a happy ending for her and he did make a hell of an effort at the end of the game when he was helping Jodie.

I'll have to go and check out the Zoey ending based on the comments here but personally I didn't understand the choice of it. That seemed like such a small part of her life, that I couldn't see why she would choose to live with her over Ryan who had been a much bigger part of her life for much longer.

I do too, but I wonder if the intent was for Aiden to feel "needed" in the other endings, i.e. being alone/with a love interest might leave Jodie unfulfilled somehow, whereas with Zoey she's got a family and a purpose.

The ending where she writes it herself is the Beyond ending. I think Cole has to live to see it, because she writes "Little Princess Still Here" on his monitor.

So... does anyone have a good explanation to the first scene in the game that shows as prologue at first ?
I mean the Jodie with short hair and surrounded by the same effects that when you see her mom trapped by drugs.

Holy shit that's kind of dumb, I thought you meant he could die in like the Chinese base or something.

Yeah, that sounds right. It might also ease her pain seeing as though Zoey also has some kind of connection to the other side and understands her.

Does she really? Wow. I missed that when I watched the video, I'll have to go back and look for it more closely. That's kind of sweet, but I still don't like the Beyond ending.

it's awkward for me since I ship JodiexAiden. :P

Dude I ( MAJOR Bioshock Infinite ending spoilers)
shipped Booker and Liz so I understand your pain.

Now THAT was an amazing story. Just confused at some things:

She said she'd died twice already? Meaning?
And the final ending scene, Sequel or are they saying that's what will eventually happen?
Also, how come the entities didn't always attack Jodie?

My mind is blown but I totally loved the game. Chose to Live and be with Ryan at the end btw

So looking at the game art for Black Sun (bonus content), I realized Zoey also ran away from DPA. It makes sense now but I must have missed a lot of her backstory in that homeless chapter!

Oh yeah so I guess Zoey is her daughter. She is basically doing what Jodie did in this game in the art (CIA agent with powers)

That's pretty cool, I guess.

Man, the Navajo chapter was soo good. It didn't feel relevant to the rest of the game, but it was awesome nontheless.

We've been assuming that her "dying" was being cracked in the head at the end of Homeless and then she was "dead" during the Life or Beyond choice.

I believe that scene was meant to show what will eventually happen. Cage doesn't make sequels so I doubt he would start now.

Don't really have anything concrete on the last one. It seemed that Aiden was only as strong as Jodie's will was at the time so maybe they only attacked when they saw that she was weak in some way?

Haha what's funny is I actually had Ryan die on accident. I went to choke Nathan but didn't want to kill him, so I let go, and then BAM!....Ryan gets shot.

I kind of want one of Sony's other studios to make a Beyond shooter sequel with Jodie and Zoey in the Entity Apocalypse. Not for any story reason's, I'm quite satisfied with that. I just think it would be a cool setting.

He's been somewhat inconsistent on the subject, two of QD's projects were sequels to Omikron (Exodus and Karma) so it's a policy that's flexible at the very least.

Apologies if already posted but it seems the idea of the Infraworld dates back from before Heavy Rain.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42360
Yeah, was supposed to be their new project after Omikron and it's been referenced since (there's an ad for it in heavy rain IIRC) though whether it was the same idea or they just reused the name is unknown.

When did Ryan lose an eye?

Is there a place I can see all the branching?

If you
didn't talk during the investigation in the underwater base, the interrogator cuts his eye out.

afaik, there is no place to see the branching paths. Someone will have to make a guide for that or something.

I thought Ryan could go sit on a rake but I cannot stand torture so I squealed like a piggy.

I hate Ryan too, I laughed when they mentioned that Jodie had so much to live for, during the ending choice scene, and then cut to only Ryan.

I wish they had thrown in the homeless people or Jay in that scene as well.

I was looking for a new avatar and I realized I never saw this scene during the mission

When did that happen?

So... does anyone have a good explanation to the first scene in the game that shows as prologue at first ?

It happens right after Black Sun. It's done this way, because the game obviously don't know which ending you are going to get. So it is kept ambiguous with the particle effects. She could be in every place trying to reconstruct her life, dead or alive.

She first died during Homeless. Technically she died too when she made the Life or Beyond choice. She basically got trapped in-between the two worlds for a moment.

Probably not a sequel, just something to make you think about. Can science be stopped or is the apocalypse inevitable?

The entities always attacked Jodie because of her connection. I guess Aiden attracts them. During First Night he learned how to fight them (Jodie: "It's alright now. Aiden isn't scared by them anymore."). This probably means that he just fights them off-screen for the majority of the time from that point onwards, since it is no big effort to him anymore. Or maybe they are scared by him now and only attack when they have to or when they feel they have the upper hand (when Jodie is weak for example).

Nope, Beyond is Infraworld. You can see it on some concept art. Also there is a making of video showing that the project folder for the game is indeed called "Infraworld". It's the working title for Beyond. Since it was teased in Heavy Rain, we should probably keep our eyes open and see if Beyond maybe teases their PS4 project somewhere.

I'll have to go and check out the Zoey ending based on the comments here but personally I didn't understand the choice of it. Zoey stands for Stan and his entire group. They were the only people in Jodie's life that cared about her from the first moment without judging her at any point or asking questions about her past. They never used her. After she died (coma) they visited her in the hospital almost every day, telling her how much they missed her. You can see flashbacks how they changed their life for the better because of Jodie. When Ryan asks you what you are going to do with your life during Black Sun and you answer with "Friends" she tells him she will probably go to the people that always loved her, which she hasn't met many of during her life.

I picked the Zoey ending on my first run and absolutely loved it. Manly tears were shed when Stan opened up the door and was speechless seeing her again.

The kid from the party scene is not Ryan. The kid had an Australian accent and they were likely within 4 years of age;
While Ryan was born is the US and had what appears to be much wider age gap.

Australian? Wat.

He had an English accent, albeit, a very bad one. He even said he was from London or some shit.

Just completed the game, underwhelmed tbh since the story although it had some good moments was a bit of a mess and I thought that the only time your actions mattered was at the pick 2 and then 4 ending.

Someone earlier had said that the baby in the homeless chapter could be born still-born. Was that bs? I tried to do the chapter over and I'm not seeing a way for that to happen. Also it doesn't seem like it matters whether you trip the alarm or not in the supermarket.

not sure, but the baby was silent for a few seconds which took me aback for a moment. would be ballsy to put a failure state in that scene.

thinking over the experience, one of my favorite things was the repetition of tossing and turning in bed to go to sleep.

i would have preferred a less epic and smaller scale game that dealt with jodie on an even more intimate level, dealing truly with her character as a character study, which would have made moments like that more important. cage wanted that and his grandiose action movie too i guess.

i came to enjoy the dimension rift concept, even if it was handled in a goofy way with some poor writing.

edit: also cover hopping with x in that war zone was surprisingly satisfying. not sure why. well i do know why, it was the animation and graphics, but still.

people are seriously misunderstanding this game. its focus is not on choices. again, qd has always said this is a different game than heavy rain, therefore to say "oh it had no choices" just like every reviewer out there is such a disservice.

Oh, right right.

God, when is the OST going up on iTunes. ;_____;
For the meantime here is the full OST on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXFHZ7cOV08
This is probably going to be the iTunes release. Of course the quality is not perfect, but it will do for now. Unfortunately it doesn't include some really beautiful (short) pieces like with most games.

Have this looping all day. My favourite parts and pieces are:

http://youtu.be/kXFHZ7cOV08?t=1m49s (Part of Jodie's Theme)
http://youtu.be/kXFHZ7cOV08?t=4m32s (Dawkin's Theme)
http://youtu.be/kXFHZ7cOV08?t=16m4s (Condenser action music)
http://youtu.be/kXFHZ7cOV08?t=18m35s (Playing in the yard - Christmas)
http://youtu.be/kXFHZ7cOV08?t=20m52s (Childhood Memories)
http://youtu.be/kXFHZ7cOV08?t=26m4s (Condenser reveal)
http://youtu.be/kXFHZ7cOV08?t=30m58s (Norah)

And then from this point onwards till the end I pretty much love everything lol:

enjoyed the story overall, i think the endings all kinda sucked except for the life with the homeless friends or ryan endings.

the end-end with the glimpse at the future didn't do it for me, felt really out of place, a dumb attachment to create room for a sequel. one that i don't know if i'd care to see.

i think they could have done a better job with willem's character too, they didn't do the best job showing his transformation from small scientist to emotional wrecked mad man. he was just kinda always on the border where i had no idea if he genuinely cared for jodie or if he was just a creep, then at a point in the game he's suddenly giant movie villain lair genius in the CIA showing you his trapped ghost family. This maybe could have been represented better if it had been viewed chronologically, but they chose to segment time like they did for better or worse.

it had some cheesy voice acting of the heavy rain quality too, but only with some side side characters. all the main cast were really good.

Yeah, same. I remember when you linked me to it in the other thread, so thank you. :)

I just really want to be able to take it with me and listen to it in the car and stuff.

This game has the best and most consistent OST I've heard in a game. Everything is amazing and all the tracks aren't variations of one theme...

I think this and The Last of Us have made it into my top 5 favorite games ever. It's rare when an ending stays with you like that, and I haven't been able to get Beyond's ending out of my mind since I finished.

How is this shit NOT next-gen? It looks better than Quantum "Uncanny Valley" Break
Yeah I dunno. The gif that goes around all the time with that woman talking looks really creepy (and is pre-rendered). Beyond is far more natural. But yeah, this should be pre-rendered as well. No clue how it is running in real time, but it is. It's quite amazing what a fucking GeForce 7800 GTX from 2005, 256 MB RAM and Cell can pump out.

Yeah. I really don't know how Balfe managed this. It completely dwarfs his AssCreed 3 OST and pretty much everything else he did so far. Beautiful and almost no repetition.

Yeah, same. I remember when you linked me to it in the other thread, so thank you. :)

Me too. Soon :D

Weirdly enough the more I think about it the more I like it. They put so many details in there, it is amazing. Also I love how the game provides enough dates and hints to allow you to create a timeline, that is actually consistent.
During Like Other Girls for example Jodie says "It's Saturday night and I'm locked up in here". Later you see a calendar that shows Saturday, 1st July 2006. I checked the calendar and the 1st July 2006 was indeed a Saturday. I just love this attention to detail, that no one cares about lol

It pisses me off that most reviewers panned the game. It is fantastic
Honestly I'm fine with every score between 6-10. However, the 4 scores are complete bullshit. On the current review scale this means a broken game, which Beyond is not. Either use the whole range for all games or don't.
