Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Haven't played Destiny in quite a while, is it worth starting a new character just to experience the changes?
That's what I intend to do next Tuesday. I'd do it sooner, but their commendation package system is not live yet and I don't want to discard all my marks that easily.

I have 7 "Abandoned Quests" or whatever it is as well, but I played through the story from start to finish when the game came out and never abandoned anything, would these maybe appear if I had done a story mission with a friend and they were technically the host?

Okay so I just booted mine up there and was given so much shit

A trophy for vanguard rank unlocked (huh?)
My two exotic bounties for some reason got completed and I was given thorn and bad juju
I was given 12 strange coins and a legendary sniper from the postmaster
Wut?

bounties have been revised so anything still on your persons will be deleted or auto finished if it's a legendary one.

Yeah it was pretty cool I just went to the gunsmith and got bad juju without expecting it!

The impact seems way too low on it for a pulse rifle though.

Got a friend to pick up the Taken King Legendary edition and I got all the expacs from it due to the "Home Xbox" thing.

Started new character as I stopped at 20. Really enjoying having someone to play through some stuff with. All the 2.0 additions and the previews of the Taken King look great. So deffo worth starting again imo.

Well no point picking those up from the bin yet, you can't even complete all of them. I'd wait until TKK is out before atempting, as an XP you might gain goes to waste more or less.

ed: sorry for doubleposting.

i would - they changed the quest system a bit and the patrol missions are nicer now.

otherwise its really boring to check that lowlevel quests stuff as a level 34.

hmmm.. Might try it out again once i get the patch and can try out the new leveling system.

However, im not fond of the $40 price tag for the expansion.
i had that season pass for TDB and HOW. There wasnt anything after that was there?

Nope. Year 1 had the base game and those 2 expansions.

As someone who abandoned Destiny early on and is looking to reroll a quick question:
I plan on playing through the game coop two player. How important are classes? If we both chose the same class will we get stuck easily? Is there a good combo of two classes that work well together?

Looking forward to starting a new character - was thinking of deleting my dude titan and making a lady titan since I think the armor looks better on them, so this is the perfect excuse.

I only had time to try one game of Rift last night but it seems hilariously frantic. I finally have a reason to run an agility build in Crucible! Time for some monster dunks on the rift

Edit for above: I'd recommend at least one of you go Titan since having the defender bubble is great for team play, but realistically any pairing will work well. I'd probably just stick to different classes just for variety 's sake. Warlocks get a self-res at higher levels of the Sunsinger class.

You'll be fine with any combination of classes, even the same ones, but there are some fun synergies with just about any pairing. There's definitely no "wrong" combination, and no situation where you'll get stuck for not having one.

That said, having someone roll a support class (Titan defender, or Warlock Sunsinger) isn't a bad idea, but definitely not required.

Alright GAF in a few hours, after I'm done with work, I will take my first steps in the world of destiny.
I was not too impressed at launch, I was hyped but because of initial feedbacks I ended up not buying the game. 2.0 and TTK sold me on it again and everything is now downloaded!

Anything a complete newbie should know to get a good start and experience? Any advice?

Awesome thanks for the reply. We got distracted when we first played and didn't make it far enough to know how things end up panning out at the end. Looking forward to giving this game another shot.

Nope, you only get it on the console you buy it for.

Anyone know where you can find the Special Orders vendor/kiosk?

Special orders moved weeks ago next to the lady who sells shaders and emblems. But now instead of being a tiny kiosk, it's a big one.

I'm going to miss Claudia Black.

There's no time to explain.

Kidding. Just have fun with it, and be willing to try all of the modes a few times. I really didn't think I would like the PvP much since I'm normally blah at online FPS games, but something about the feel and vibe of Destiny made it work for me. The last FPS I fell this hard for was the original CoD 4.

Dude an agility build hunter with cloaking has always been OP in crucible. The harder you are to hit the better. If you're set on titan though...

If he or his friend are starting fresh, they wont have access to those two subclasses until level 15 (unless that's changed with 2.0).

Either way, play whatever class you want. It really doesn't matter. There is no holy trinity or anything of the sort in this game.

I will then thanks because I wasn't even planning on trying PvP as I'm usually more a PvE type of player.

So we can't get any new Crota or Queen bounties until next week? Neither Petra or Eris are offering them anymore it seems..

my doctor nope is still the goat, however it is half leveled up. should i max this or just wait for the new stuff?

btw, i played those quests for the first time but i didnt see any cinematics (before this updated i checked the game when the dlc was released and it had cinematics but i didnt watch them at that time), they were just plain bounty like missions which kinda sucked.

The bounties the Queen gave out were for enemies that no longer exist in the world. If she does give bounties, it's going to be much different I assume.

Someone spotted on b.net that she does have new bounties, but they are tied to things that happen later in the TTK story. It looks like they'll unlock after doing a quest for her.
They're aimed at Taken now.

Was Bungie wrong about there being no weekly activities this week? Because I'm pretty sure I saw a nightfall and heroic last night...

Excellent. I love doing all the bounties. Hers were some of my favorite.

Yea but they took away daily story and crucible. Surprisingly they do still have NF and WH. Most people were surprised at reset and did them all before the new patch.

Played some Rift last night and whether we won or lost it seemed most every game was fairly one sided. I even had a win that came from the game being called early due to the mercy rule, which was pretty funny.

It seems like a fun and chaotic game mode and I like the fact that it doesn't track deaths, only kills, carries and ignites.

As somebody who has stopped playing Destiny for the past 6 months- I must say this update 2.0 has some positive changes but I don't think I have it in me to re-learn the ins and outs of this game. I own the Taken King but I don't foresee these changes being enough to pull me back in. I like how you can level up with experience but such a huge change to the game this late feels like backpedaling. Next up- they re-write the story.

WOOOOOO! Mask of the Third Man is upgradeable for 2.0!

That's all I really wanted Bungie, thank you.

Also, apparently all exotic bounties autocompleted, so I FINALLY got Thorn, and with out all that Void damage crucible nonsense.

Best.
Update.
Ever.

Any comments on 2.0 hand cannons?

Had a couple of PvP matches earlier and unless it was lag, cannons seem to be shooting blanks at anything less than close quarters.

Hmm, I assume there is another way to get the Key for the POE chest then?
