That's great news. I mean it doesn't affect those of us who live in the UK, but for people worldwide, it means no spoilers from us and it truly makes it a global phenomenon

With the simulcast I could see them going for an incredibly early start by broadcasting the same time that An Unearthly Child went out in 63. Exact time, exact date, etc.

Absolute grain of salt time. The source of this is me, I have a connection who has previously been correct about similar things in the past. Make of this what you will believe me or not but try to remember the neogaf motto things are more fun that way

Based on what I've heard the BBC is actively looking into more spin off series with completely new casts (torchwood and Sarah Jane have came to a natural conclusion And won't be continued unless pushed for internally whatever that means) things seem to be very early on and they are requesting ideas internally.

Like us said take it as you will its not massive and it's most certainly not set in stone due to how early on it Is. I'll keep you updated if I hear anything else.

Time for some Rose Tyler: Defender of Earth.

They should definitely do another CBBC show. Sarah Jane Adventures was surprisingly not shit (The Death of the Doctor is a must-watch), and although obviously that can't be continued (and just replacing SJS with Jo Grant or whoever seems a bit skeezy), it's a shame to lose the one solid piece of child-targeted entertainment the BBC has nowadays.

Hopefully they don't make the same mistakes as Torchwood pre-CoE with whatever other spin-offs they may make. Personally, a U.N.I.T. show just makes too much sense, especially if they could get Jemma Redgrave in it. It'd be like the British answer to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

Holy shit, I'm okay with this.

I'd love that (hell, just film some of the best Big Finish scripts) but I really don't see the BBC introducing brand confusion into the mix by having two Doctors compete with themselves.

If Moffat isn't planning on going anywhere, Jenny, Vastra & Strax is a likely spinoff.

Me personally: A slightly supernatural sitcom starring Craig & Stormageddon.

Just last night I watched the series 6 finale, and then immediately The Five Doctors, and suddenly all the Doctor Who GAF thread names make sense :p

Natural Conclusion? Torchwood? haha no.

As for Sarah Jane, I wouldn't say natural conclusion but it's best it has ended with Liz passing away. (I'm sad that we won't get to see the kids again though, I enjoyed them and SJs adventures).

Not saying what you're saying is wrong but if anyone can say with a straight face that Torchwood has come to a natural conclusion then that's just... laughable unless they decide to retcon CoE and Miracle Day so they can bring Jack back at his best in Doctor Who then we won't even get to see Jack in Doctor Who again.

Why would they retcon Children of Earth? It's arguably the best thing Davies has done.

If they were going to bring Jack back to Doctor Who without resolving the issues at the end of Miracle Day (since they seem to say that's a natural conclusion -_- ) then they might as well retcon them and bring Jack back at his strongest which was before a certain death in CoE.

Though now that I think about it, that would also retcon the bit at the end of Tennants run where you see Jack so I guess they could retcon Miracle Day and show Jack at his weakest... in a bar getting drunk. (like we saw him at the bit in Tennants last ep)

I enjoyed Miracle day mind you though it was absolute crap compared to the previous 3 seasons but ending it the way it did without a resolution doesn't sit well with me :/

I think natural conclusion means "little to no fan demand for a return and no contracted obligations to actors however that is entirely guess work I just paraphrased what I was told from my contact

What about Children of Earth contained "cheap" or "forced" feelings?

It was maybe the most effective run of Torchwood episodes the show ever saw. There were actual people in the show for once, as opposed to plot devices or two-dimensional dialog spitters.

Perhaps it's cheap to some because the sacrifice was supposed to be meaningful
because he was Jack's grandson
, but this was the first time we ever saw or even heard about the character. I mean, if a random redshirt was the one that went into the reactor chamber in Wrath of Khan, would the ending of the film have nearly the same kick?

I think it was still great, but that is definitely an arguable storytelling flaw.

Compared to Doctor Who, Torchwood is all... just... terrible :p Some is less terrible than others. I quite liked all the rift forced time-travel in S1. When they killed off 3/5ths of the cast though... ehhh. Has exactly the opposite problem to DW. DW can't perma-kill characters to save its life, Torchwood can't stop killing people., Gwen was never the strongest character, and Jack couldn't really carry it on his own.

Yeah, I can see that complaint, and I understand it, but to me, that wasn't even the most emotional of the gut-punches. I don't see that decision being THE focal point. It was just the straw that broke Jack's back.

It's a meaningful sacrifice, but to me, it's the sacrifices before that one that lead to Jack making the inevitable decision that really power that miniseries.

Introducing a previously unseen or unmentioned character with ties to the hero to get a cheap emotional response when he dies at the end. It was very lazy writing.

Given that the current production team seems to be struggling to even give us 14 episodes a year, I'd rather they focused on improving that than developing spin-offs. Real talk.

Yupp. If we have to have the season split and the spin-off can fill the gap... but knowing the BBC, it would be six Doctor Who episodes and six "Paternoster Adventures". And I'm sorry, I don't think Jenny Strax and Vastra can sustain a spin-off. They're very one-note characters, apart from Vastra.

Some questions:

Will the simulcast be in 3d only or is there a 2d option?
What time will that be in PST? Heh

Don't know about the time yet, it's not been announced but assuming it was 7pm UK time (random time) then it'd be 11am. (8 hours behind UK)

Comedian Tom Craine has revealed that BBC Three are currently putting together a special show celebrating the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary. It is believed that it will be a "50 Greatest" type list show (common on the channel) featuring comments and thoughts from diverse humans from all over the media quagmire. Speaking on his website earlier today, Craine said:

"Delighted that I’ll be appearing as a guest on a forthcoming BBC3 show celebrating 50 years of Doctor Who. Wouldn’t put it past me to have a few stern words to say about the Daleks."

There's a huge rumor floating around regarding some Doctor Who filming done. Going to spoiler tag the whole thing. It's pretty amazing if true:

So the rumor is Paul McGann has done some filming.

And he regenerates into John Hurt...

Rumour has been going around for months. Pretty sure someone on GB gave an exact date of when his scene was filmed, sometime in April/May

It was, yeah. This thread was created initially to be spoiler land, not sure how it stands now Series 7 is actually over.

He's been on twitter and was asked about it all, mind. He said:

@pauljmcgann heard a whisper that you are going to be in the 50th anniversary dr who, plz say its true :) x

@shakesby_vivien Yes, I keep hearing similar. Truth is I didn't so much as visit their set as I was away working. Nor was I invited to.

So god knows.

I actually heard his voice in my head while reading that. :)

edit: regarding spoilers - wasn't it that spoilers for season 7 were unmarked, but anything that could spoil the 50th anniversary itself needed to be blacked out?

The official rule for this thread I believe is no spoiler tags on anything officially shown by the BBC - so trailers, images, casting announcements, and of course all already aired episodes. The reason this thread existed, IIRC, is that the BBC released some 50th stuff prior to Series 7 finishing and when it was posted without tags (because it's official) in the Series 7 thread some people were unhappy.

Rumours and leaks go in tags.

I think we follow the policy of once it airs, spoilers are untagged.

So,
McGann didn't visit the set, that might just mean he filmed somewhere else. :p

Same here. I'm currently hoping that the rumors are true about
there being a planned webseries centered on McGann & Hurt, and that the webseries idea was canceled, and the footage folded into the 50th.
