Doctor Who 50th Anniversary |OT| Splendid Chap, All Of Them

Doctor Who Magazine this month is printing that categorically there are no past Doctors in the special other than the Tenth. It could be a double bluff, but I'm doubting it.

I'm glad they are not overloading with cameos but I think we could have at least had the 8th in their. McGann deserves something.

I think having 10, Rose, and 8th would be cool. Adding all these people in the special and you begin to move the focus away from the plot and more into the cameos.

I liked the way Series 5 made references to past Doctors: the Atraxi showing us the 10 Doctors in a hologram, the Doctor's library card, the Species Identifier printing out a photo of the 1st and 2nd Doctor, among other little nods. I think that's how they should go about giving past Doctors their respects, but something more visual.

I'm still on how awesome The Forgotten is:

Something like the Doctor remembering his past would be a cool moment.

Filming today at
Coal Hill School, along with a recreation of the Totter's Lane policeman in the first shot of the entire series.

Fuck, that picture is amazing. I hope it's more than an easter egg.
Ian being in the finale would make it for me.

I wouldn't go that far, but the timing of that post just before these reports is rather good.

Did you honestly think they would do some
classic Who stuff
for the anniversary? Every major player involved in the production side of Doctor Who has been in love with the show since they were kids.

If that is true (which I doubt because come on) then that certainly would cause Doctor Who to change forever as Moffat likes to keep on spouting.

I've been rewatching a lot of Baker recently, I love his relationship with the Time Lords. I think it would be interesting if they forced him to regenerate again and maybe put him on the odd mission. Brain of Morbius is fantastic, its not even a Time Lord mission but having Baker shouting at the caverns around him complaining of Time Lord meddling was brilliant.

Urgh, I hate the bloody
Timelords

So does the Doctor which I think helps, their not even that threatening, just a nuisance. Could just be back for the 50th I suppose.

Am beginning to wonder if the Zygons might be a backdrop and not part of the 'main plot'.

He has to go all or nothing with that stuff, I think.

If they're back, it really does have to be for good. The End of Time was a unique circumstance; if they end up retreading ground from that story but with Omega instead of Rassilon it'll be extremely disappointing.

I'd be surprised if he does bring them back for good, though, which will then mean the story will end up being a retread of that at least thematically - Moffat and RTD both were very keen on the Doctor being 'special,' and Gallifrey & the Time Lords being back makes him inherently less so.

It was suggested very early on they may be there just as a framing device (ie, they're who the Tenth Doctor is battling/dealing with when he gets tugged aside into this adventure) rather than a full villain. This goes along with suggestion that they might appear in a full episode of their own in Series 8.

True but Moffat has been increasingly frustrated I feel with The Doctor being 'special'; he almost writes to a frustrating logic of 'but if they knew who he was they wouldn't bother taking him on!'. He might feel the Time Lords are a useful plot device to just end a lot of the questionable logic in the show 'fixed points' become points hes not allowed to muck with or the Time Lords will get annoyed; paradoxes etc. become simpler devices and ofc the Time Lords can be a nice character in the show.

Maybe Moffat has been setting this all up? The Doctor's Death could have been so the Time Lords come back without bothering with him, seemingly thinking his Fixed Point has ended. Then ofc he 'bumps into them' - possibly in the finale this year, making way for the 50th.

Series 5: TARDIS attacked by Omega to force The Doctor to restart the Universe, after Omega realises the connection between the Pandorica fairy tale and The Doctor.

Series 6: The Doctor dies in an unconnected incident. Time Lords begin resurging, feeling free to return under Omega to the universe.

Series 7: The Doctor is travelling unaware of a force brewing in the universe. Hes making noise only the Time Lords can hear, they are beginning to investigate this 'time traveller'.

Oh that sounds fun then.

All I know is that a time when
they came after and tried to 'punish' the Doctor for all his meddling was one of the worst times in the show's history. I don't think what we've seen is Moffat being frustrated with the Doctor being special; he's the one who green-lit things like the speech at the end of 'Rings' and so on. If anything, people forgetting him is only making him more special, as his greatest weakness before was that a lot of his enemies would straight up see him coming.

OR when combining it with a previous rumor from "The Name Of The Doctor" that I'm not sure whether it was already debunked or not:
The Great Intelligence learns his name and thereby gains access to the Doctor's timestream. The event where the Doctor stops and locks the Time War thereby killing all other Timelords and not quite all the Daleks is erased from history. Thus the Time War was never ended and the Timelords never killed off in the first place.

Because let's face it. The previous time that
Gallifrey came back
was also not exactly set up in advance. Sure there was
the sounds of drums in the Masters head
but I doubt that back then that already was a setup for
"The End of Time"
.

So maybe he also created Clara to get that information out of him. And every time she dies he has to recreate her because he needs her.

Well the same rumour says that the Clara we have now is
the first one, she jumps into the Doctors time stream to save him in all the instance TGI tries to kill him, which is why there are multiple versions of her across time and that apparently there will be more than we saw on the show.

The most important thing to me though is that through the rumour of it being
The Great Intellegence
we finally solve the Tardis Exploding.

I don't think the 50th thing will link back to Clara much, if at all, purely becuase I'm sure he'll want to make the episode more firmly about the Doctor himself.

As a side note - the fact Matt's chopped his hair must mean he's done it for his new movie role, as his hair is an iconic part of him in the role of the Doctor, and part of the reason he was hired. That means, presumably, they've either wrapped or are wrapping soon. Considering they've wrapped after a month, I again doubt this'll be more than an hour. The End of Time was filming for ten to twelve weeks, for instance - that was for a two parter, 60 and 70. Your average two-parter in the series (90 minutes, 2x 45m) films for 6-7 weeks.

And considering they haven't started filming the Christmas Special for this year, I'd say that points to the 50th anniversary being Matt's last episode and Eleven's regeneration.

Matt is confirmed for the Christmas special, which will film when he returns from US in July (?).

Looks like filming wrapped on the 50th this weekend.

His hair'll be mostly back by July/August, so that won't be a problem, I imagine... I do think the 50th wrapping after 4 weeks means it's very likely to end up an hour, though. Unless they've extra filming planned during the Christmas filming.

I'm not sure why Matt leaving necessarily means filming has stopped. With Tennant on board, it would be an easy thing to schedule filming so Ten-centric stuff could be shot with Smith out of the country.
