Jesus, this is fucking painful. I have been enjoying the Toriko ride fully up until this point, despite knowing that the climax was fast approaching, but this ending is turning out far worse than I ever could have imagined. Next week is it! I thought 400 would be the last chapter for the longest time, but nope we don't even get that much. I didn't read the end of Bleach, but I think I can now relate to how folks felt about. The way this is wrapping up is just about the most unsatisfying way I think it could have been done.

And man . . . ZEBRA DIDN'T GET TO DO SHIT! Appetite Demon so deadly that no life could coexist on a planet with it, and he did fucking squat! Aside from getting destroyed that is! Don't really like how NEO Acacia was handled towards the end either. Would have just been better if he was irredeemable. Toriko and Co. are fucking saints. Don't know how any of them can share a meal with that fucking demon.

I'm currently buying the volumes, and really enjoying re-reading the earlier arcs, which just rubs more salt in the wound. I enjoyed this series so fucking much. It had so much untapped potential, and was ripe for future adventures. What a fucking waste. I hope Mitsutoshi has better luck with whatever he does next. Toriko didn't deserve this.

WataMote ch. 106

A funny, but melancholic chapter. I don't want this to end.

I Am A Hero ch. 240

Almost like Hideo had a better weapon on him just recently.

One that's really powerful up close.

One that he chose to give away while instead holding on to the rifle he can't even aim.

I feel bad because every time Jun acted like that I thought he just doesn't want to accept that boobs exist or something, but in reality he's actually practicing a legitimate self defense mechanism. He's in constant danger of his life.

I rather dislike the tension point of vague explanation leading to conflict. They had all the time in the world to talk about the thing Yatsuki did in the past that has his childhood friend so on edge, and now we'll probably spend a dozen of useless chapters to somehow get what he actually did. Then another dozen to resolve the struggle if he should just die or fight on, then comes the real fight and a peaceful happy resolution.

I mean, it's a somewhat valid way of story telling, but when it's so obviously done by the numbers, it's really boring.

Ahh, so that was absolute fear Jun' s eyes.
Fear of the ultimate defensive system TOMO activating.

Jun needs step his shit up before it's to late. Luckily we have not seen any yandere tendency's yet, just pissed off.

this, to me, is the BIGGEST FUCKING TRAGEDY in Toriko.

Zebra is one of the best character designs and aspects in the entire fucking manga. a Literal goldmine of potential and the author squandered it.

It's very good but the dude needs to stop doing side stories, which while interesting, make me forget what's even fucking happening with the MC.

I think the author is inconsistent in this aspect because the main stories sometimes is akin to whole new unrelated arc ( heart of J ).

But both the side stories and main stories are really quality work.

Yep, and Doujima is like "I don't even need to taste it to know" when talking about the "amount of passion" he put into that meal. Yeaah, kind of bullshit.
I love the manga, but those "it tasted the same, but this and that it more chef-like" is pretty weird to me.

Yep, none of them got to do a damn thing during this last arc. All they did was get destroyed by Joa offscreen, and then later blasted by NEO Acacia. Super dissapointing after they hyped up all of their Appetite Demons. They might as well of never eaten the Full Course!

they each had separate arcs assigned to them to

but due to WSJ rushing this series to its now confirmed deadline we basically missed all of them

what is that like 5 arcs?

I look at that and then compare it to the time Mitsutoshi wasn't forced to rush and you see

Coco with that Gourmet Casino arc and Sunny with that Waterfall arc and Zebra even having some time to shine in the beginning of the Bambina arc

oh well

I hope Mitsutoshi... if he ever decides to make another serious series and not a comedy like his old work... will go and do a Seinen with another publication

we already see how talented he is and if he didn't have the weekly rush that WSJ does I have a feeling he can make an even better series then he ever produced

It is an interesting thought to see where he goes from now on. Doing a Seinen manga (monthly?) is a possibility, although he might be more attuned to Shonen manga than anything. I wouldn't be surprised if he comes up with something fully new in 5 years time. A different publication (as in a different magazine), is in the cards, I'd imagine, if it is monthly.

I can't see him going down a path away from Shueisha, however. At least not fully. The fact of the matter was that after the sex scandal, Mitsutoshi was in a bad place carrier wise, as a manga author. Despite that, they still took him back, allowed him to run new manga, and as much as people might like to forget, Toriko was getting promoted a lot. Never forget that it was having crossovers with Dragon Ball and One Piece during its heyday.

Speaking of, would Mitsutoshi just turn his back on his friends as well? Oda is close with the man, and this friendship played a lot with Shimabukuro getting a career and a successful manga started again. He might pull something like what Takei is doing with working semi-freelance, but I just can't see him leaving Shueisha after the help he got.

we already see how talented he is and if he didn't have the weekly rush that WSJ does I have a feeling he can make an even better series then he ever produced

The man has talent for sure. I just don't know if it is all well spent on a single manga series however.

I feel Toriko might have been better served to have been more compact in its vision of the Gourmet World arc, rather than spreading its narrative like it did post Bambina.

(Although, WSJ schedule can account for only so much. Toriko not taking off played a huge part in what happened here)

I watch quite a bit of anime but i dont think i have ever read manga before.
Anime I liked (and remember watching): one punch man, gurren lagan, attack on titan, kill la kill, berserk, bebop, ghost in the shell, FLCL, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, mushi-shi.
I guess i am looking for a light-hearted action manga with a serious/mature underlying story. The overall setting/story can be dark as well.
I would also prefer a manga that has already finished, or at least supposed to have an ending at some point, and not something that has hundreds of volumes by now.
Part of the problem is that a lot of manga has anime adaptations, so if i were interested in something, i probably already saw the anime.
I have ordered the first volume of tokyo ghoul (instead of starting watching the anime) and looking for more recommendations.
A link to where i can search for manga by genre and user reviews would be helpful as well. I usually use goodreads, and there isn't much there on the comics/manga side.

Biscuit Hammer seems to fit your description and has no anime. I would also strongly recommend to read Berserk because the manga is a lot better than the anime.

If you're ok with currently ongoing stuff as long as they don't have millions of volumes, then check out My Hero Academia (anime covered just a little) and Vinland Saga (also no anime)

Thanks for the recommendations. I will take a look at those manga.
I am also considering reading berserk and attack on titan at some point since the manga seems to go beyond what's in the anime.

Going to second the suggestion to check out the list of recommendations Dramati does in the first page from the several threads, and I will also be adding my voice to the people recommending Helck and The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer.

A few manga that might fit your description:

Psyren
Teppuu
All Rounder Meguru

Also Gundam The Origin (if you haven't watched the show)

If you end up enjoying Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, then also check out the authors other works, such as Sengoku Yoko and Spirit Circle (high recommendation for this one)

I might as well, its ending soon, we were talks about it and it is fun, check out Toriko if you haven't. And Assassination Classroom as well. Both had anime but also are close to or have finished in manga form.

Ongoing manga you might like to check out, nothing overly long:

World Trigger (a personal favourite)
Twin Star Exorcist
Hinomaru Zumou
Blue Exorcist
My Hero Academia (probably what might fit your taste best from what you listed)
Yona of the Dawn (also a personal favourite)

I noticed that you also listed down Mushi-shi and some stuff that isn't exactly action oriented. Are you also looking to read something like them?

Already seen black lagoon and fullmetal alchemist.

Definitely read Berserk. Even parts that were covered in either anime had parts omitted. There are plenty of parts of the golden age that have never been animated even with the tv series and the movies covering it for example

Also, on The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, you can read the whole thing on crunchyroll's manga reader if you have a subscription. It'll be listed as Hoshi no Samidare: The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer

Dungeon Meshi is great, although it's ongoing. I'd suggest Jojo's Bizarre Adventure as well, though you can also watch the anime.

You can look for recommendations and stuff on Mangaupdates, which is probably the biggest manga database in english.

I have been looking around for Helck volumes, but can't for the life of me find where in Book Off's shelves it's supposed to be at. If only sites would actually show the side of the books, then I could at least try to remember that, like I used to do with Umineko before I got used to finding it by its publisher instead.

Also managed to find a copy of Umineko Ep7 Vol8, so now all I'm mising is 8-8 to complete my collection (excluding two Tsubasa books and all but the first volume of the Higurashi crossover, which I don't care about as much).

I'm also almost done with Tetsugaku Letra Vol6, so I guess I'll be posting my final impressions in a couple days or so.

Kimi ni Todoke aka the best romance manga ever to exists

chapters 1 through 45
Kay, so I need to come out of my nice safe closet. I super like Shojo mangas. I think they're great and I fucking adore dumb teenage drama and love triangles and all that jazz (ironic because I'm not really a fan of Young Adult novels). And this is probably my favorite of all of them because it so god damn cute and Sawako is so god damn earnest and nice and just the perfect kind of heroine for this kind of story. She's so great, a characters only criteria for being a worthy romance partner is simply recognizing how rad she is. I think this is the third time I've read through this manga? And, extra weird recommendation criteria, my favorite break up manga. Going through a shitty breakup? Read this and get lost in love and drama and all that nonsense and realize she/he/they were just not the one.

Now here is the problem! I am at the part where I always stop with this, where they get together. The big problem of the series has been solved, so what is the point of the story anymore? It's Catch 22 because I HATE how series will tease romance but always circle around it without ever exploring the 'date' part of it. Yet once it happens (especially in romance stories) it feels like the conclusion of the plot and everything after is thus fluff. Really hits hard in this because it's such a dramatic work up to them getting together! A few chapters after and they kind of already set up the drama as "Who is her friend gonna end up with???" and that's fine but she isn't Sawako. I'm going to power through this time and see what happens because I've always been a little curious.

I like it. Though i'm currently on volume 10, and i haven't continue yet... (mostly because i miss out on buying vol 11 and 12, and now i need to find it before i buy the rest of the volume)

The arc about
Naru's dad
is one heavy stuff. I do like that the author shake things up a bit, showing a good amount of character growth.

One Punch Man vol.3

For Genos fight, i like the online version better, though i guess it's hard to replicate it in tankoubon version.

After all this build up, Takumi's reason for rejecting what's-her-face better be something impressive. If it's just something obvious like not wanting to ruin the trio's friendship I'll be disappointed. Alternatively those two could just hook up so the MC can get onto the true route already.
